Momentous occasion in here. Must be the first year without someone dribbling on about the Triple J hot 100 count.

This I consider to be collective growth.
Well done all!

There's no discussion in the music thread either, but there's not much to say.

It's the same as its been for the last five years. Very pop orientated and the local bands that get played all have the same soft indie rock sound. Most here have aged out of the station and are pretty self-aware of it.

the music for the youths is bad and was better when i was a youth
this is what the "triple j bad" people sound like, despite never listening to triple j

Yeah I couldn't figure out why I knew more songs from 2005 when I was 13 and less from 2025 when I was 33. Weird phenomenon.

Hottest 100 was fantastic, loved the 2005 countdown on Sunday.
Yeah was awesome, they are doing 1995 during the week as well.

Fantastic time capsule and brings back so many memories(if you are old enough haha).

I did joke with my wife that once the 20 year countdown hits ~2015 I wondered if they'd flip back to the start again and start doing 30 year countdowns haha.

We're heading right into the sweet spot over the next few years that the 20 year countdown will be right in my childhood.

The only thing I find more odd than those who feel the need to verbalise how much they dislike it (just don't listen) are the people that rush to defend it.

It certainly seems to make people passionate about it one way or the other.

Why is people pointing out the intended audience of something more odd than people who get wound up by something they don't listen to?

Because I don't see why it needs justifying/defending.

If you like it, great. If someone else doesn't, great. The rush for both sides to have the exact same conversation each year is bizarre to me.

I didnt listen too it, so i have no opinion on how good it was and Im not defending it. Its not aimed at dudes like me(double J fills that hole).

Isn't that how a discussion works? People say something/ask something and people explain or respond to them? Not sure why the latter is MORE weird to you. If anything it's weird that every year the same thing has to be pointed out to the same people who don't seem to pick up on the fact that the Countdown isn't aimed at them. Are they thinking they'll finally tune in to the 2029 countdown and suddenly it'll be full of Cold Chisel and Midnight Oil?

And whats this MOD business Jatz Kicked us for someone better haha
I got run out of town around here so have ended up on the NFL, Media & Entertainment & Tennis boards haha.

I will say, all 3 seem to be far smoother than we had it 10 years ago :tearsofjoy: Grandblue and Faith were memorable for all the wrong reasons haha.

Just think it's deserved Streisand effect for Gero tbh

I listen to loads of new music all the time but very rarely come across the stuff that’s on Triple J anymore.

Obviously it’s subjective, but feel like there’s much better tunes out there that aren’t ever on rotation so they don’t have the opportunity to be chosen.

We are also in the TikTok era where people attention spans are short and they are hearing tunes off the apps which influence their choices.

I’m happy in a way because it means if those artists come to Australia for a gig, I have better chances of grabbing tickets.

Had this conversation with my wife the other day - unless a song is in an ad, TV show, social media, it's not going to have the same cut through as the top 40 had even 10 years ago. Back then you'd probably have more recognition of a song sat 20th in the countdown than the number one does these days. Everything has just become so fragmented and curated.

I still rely on ABC TV show Rage to access new stuff. Record it and fast fwd most weeks.

Steady on grandpa!

Don't you just use Spotify or something and listen to new release playlists on that?

And surely it gets put up on iView. I didn't think people still recorded things!
