I dont ever count Star Wars as separate movies. It's a trilogy. It's all one story told in three parts. It's just Star Wars to me. :)

How does that work? We're talking individual movies.

Do you count the Godfather as a trilogy or as individual movies? The third is by all reports terrible.

Does the same apply to the 22 Police Academy movies?

Logic doesn't even make sense in a Star Wars context or it'd include all VII (arguably 8) movies.

I think Jod likes all the Star Wars equally so when he ranks his films he just has "Star Wars" meaning all the films. I've done the same as my no.1 is the LOTR trilogy, like them all the same so they fall under the same roof.

Would be curious to see his reasons for liking The Phantom Menace as much as Empire Strikes Back. :)

Regardless, my list would probably be:

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. The Dark Knight
3. Schindler's List
4. A New Hope
5. Die Hard
6. Gone Girl
7. Terminator 2
8. Groundhog Day
9. Return of the Jedi
10. Back to the Future

You could split the trilogies (ie, 4-6 & 1-3). 7 kind of stands by itself for the moment.

Wait, isn't there only 7 of them (unless you're just over-exaggerating to make a point?)

In regards to movies, I think the LOTR trilogy is very overrated (I think I noted I liked the Hobbit trilogy better. Even though that book had no business being three parts long, I liked Bilbo a hell of a lot more.) I will admit I do like SW's 4-6 much more than 1-3, but I wouldn't call them the top of the top. Good movies though.

The BTTF takes my spot as best trilogy (Hell, I'll even count the BTTF game which might as well be BTTF4. If you haven't played it, I think the story and feel is extremely well done.) Toy Story ranks highly as well. Wreck-It Ralph and Zootopia rank pretty highly especially in modern times. Citizen Kane was a lot of fun with Orson Welles, as well as To Kill A Mockingbird.

Groundhog Day is a good shout, Roman Holiday actually does the job really darn well. Iron Man and the Avengers also stand out. I think I also noted the Disapperance of Haruhi Suzumiya to be the best anime film I've seen (I like it better than all of the other Miyazaki films.)

I know there's a lot of others in there, but to limit it would just be very hard.

Was definitely an over exaggeration. I don't think I've even seen number 7.

The first Back To The Future is a masterpiece but I felt it fell away a bit after that. Still an excellent trilogy though. Agree with your comments about The Hobbit, it really did not warrant a trilogy.

Does anyone rate the film "Downfall"? It's hard to get past all the parodies when watching it now. But I think it's exceptional. The acting is superb

Yes they're all very different films. This might be a Jod skill v gambling perspective though ;)
Of course they are different films. Particularly if you count VII and the prequels. But i grew up on original trilogy. For me, they are all one big story.

If I were to ranks them it's Empire, New Hope, Return. But I always think they are one big movie.

I love Star Wars.

The prequels are dogshit, let's not talk about them.

Whilst kinda true. When I say ALL the Star Wars films, im talking original trilogy. Not the other four. I did rate Ep VII though.

See this for me is interesting. Because I also loved Schindler's List. It's a masterpiece from Spielberg and tells an incredibly powerful and important story. But I've only seen it maybe three times. I must have seen Star Wars, Batman films, Die Hard... 30 times each. :D

Yep. 7 to be judged in a trilogy once the other two are out.

4-6 - best films ever in overall trilogy. I see it as one story which I grew up on a love dearly despite some of its faults (ewoks)

1-3 - disgusting aberations of films. Poor excuse for cinema. Almost destroyed my childhood. Yet still watch today as they are some of the best comedies ever made.

Disagree hugely on The Hobbit trilogy being better than LOTR. Hobbit trilogy was still good but nothing compared to the genius of LOTR.

Agree with BTTF. Genius trilogy but if we're talking trilogies, then original Indy trilogy is absolutely legit.

The Hobbit was ruined by churning out three parts for it. Would have worked far better as a two part film. Fleshed out with too much shit.
