Re: The Official "Everything Oasis" Thread

I just thought instead of this being one big Oasis love-in, some of you would appreciate some good old fashioned debate, without bringing other bands into it, because thats where all the other debates fall apart.

Instead of comparing Oasis to Radiohead, I'm simply comparing Noel to Liam, or 90's Oasis to 00's Oasis.

Apples and oranges IMO.

In the 90's Oasis could be viewed as fairly immature in their sound. They were purely a Britpop band, it has taken them a while to reinvent themselves but they showed they could do it with DBTT and now with DOYS it's almost as though it's full circle. You could go as far as saying albums like SOTSOG and HC were learning curve albums.

I reckon they're a different band these days. Which is why I find the criticism of the new album very moronic with people suggesting they're still churning out the same old stuff. Absolute rubbish. It's hard to compare 90's Oasis to the 00's as I think they're worlds apart. Songs like Acquiesce, Live Forever, Roll With It, they wouldn't fit with the sound they're making now in the vein of DBTT and DOYS. And it shows they're not just a one trick pony. The whole band is contributing and it's not just Noel pulling the strings anymore, and with songs like To Be Where There's Life and Get Off Your High Horse Lady it shows they can write very versatile music.

And no, Liam is vital to the band. His voice may not be as strong as it used to be but he still provides a rock and roll aesthetic that very few can match. Liam has withstood the test of time and to say he should be out of the band is absolute tripe

Good old fashioned debate?

What Liam V Noel

Fact is, Liam is Oasis, Oasis would never be as big as they are without Liam.

Liam and Noel complement each other perfectly.

Why compare them.

They are a team.

90's Oasis was epic. They are in a very select group of bands who could actually produce so many good songs over a 3 year period. Nearly every single song was golden, something only that could be matched by band like The Beatles. Even the B-sides from BHN are decent.

00's Oasis has dropped off a bit but I still think they are the best band going around ATM. They still produce amazing albums, which would be considered elite if not constantly compared to MG and DM. SOTSOG lost the band a lot of popularity in America and if you ain't popular there, you ain't the biggest band in the world (even if everyone else thinks so). Songs like TIOBI, Falling Down, Gas Panic, Let There Be Love, SCYHO, GLIO are all amazing songs (underrated by the world) and there aren't many bands (if any at all) who can match the quality of these songs.

Firstly let me say, I used to be a huge Oasis fan. I still have every album and every live dvd they've released. So i'm not just making all my Oasis judgements on Wonderwall and Champagne Supanova.

I couldnt agree more that Noel and Liam are a team, but this certainly doesnt mean you cant compare their talents, and what one brings to the band compared to the other.

At no time have i suggested Liam shouldnt be part of the band anymore. Thats ridiculous. They simply wouldnt be Oasis without either of the Gallaghers. Every other member of the band is expendable though, as has been the case over their careers.

Also, I understand a lot of massive Oasis fans love the new album. As i've said in previous posts, most of you had built it up so much you were gonna love it no matter what. I honestly think that over the next few months the excitement will wear off and many of you will realise its not a brilliant record. Its not even a very good record. Its just another Oasis album like the last few have been.
Their records have been on a steady decline since Whats the Story... and i think the new one is comfortably the weakest. It just seems to plod along, the lyrics are bland, Liams voice seems to be over produced to hide the fact that he sounds terrible these days (too much smoking and talking i suspect).
I'm not alone in this train of thought either. Most respectable reviewers are giving it average marks.

The best thing thats happened around Oasis in the last 10 years in Noels acoustic tour a couple of years ago.

Is it possible that some people do genuinely like the album? And will continue to like it? Or has that not even crossed your train of thought?

Agree 100%. Many Oasis fans put them up on such a pedestal. I wish they'd blow my mind with some awesome new music, but its so bland. They should take a leaf out of Radiohead's book and look at how they keep reinventing themselves.

As Captain Davey said, people who say the new album is 'bland' and that they need to write something different should really listen to the album sometime.

Many Oasis fans have just broken all box office records for selling UK tickets. 18 years after they came onto the scene they are still easily the most relevant band in the UK and arguably the world.

If you find it bland then don't listen to it.

Personally i love the album and i think it's their best since WTSMG.

Mate, we get the picture just about every music fan who knows a bit about music which you obviously do, thinks that their first 2 albums are classics.

We have established that.

If you don't like their latter stuff, fine, i got no problem. But lots of people do and many 'respected' reviewers have rated this album as their best since the glory days of the 90's.

Surely you can just let it go and admit that this band is still very relevant. If you dont like their latter stuff you have other stuff that you can listen to and other threads that you can post it.

LOL no. Just, no.

Thats such a riveting post.

Got any suggestions?

That's just the thing. Oasis haven't been relevent since the 90's. Off the top off my head I could name 50 acts that are more relevent than Oasis today.

Theirs these guys called the Kings of Leon, their sort of the boggest band in the world right now, I don't want this to turn into a slag off, but Oasis are not close to them in any regard as far as "relevance" goes.
They have gotten better and more popular with each album and are probably the most in demand band in the world

Yes they are a great band, however they're latest release isn't something to crow about IMO. Because of the Times and Y&YM are their better albums. If you were to somehow take offence to that in any way, you'd understand how Oasis fans feel about the moronic criticism of the new album

Just on Oasis for a minute - I'm currently in that state where, having listened to most of What's The Story Morning Glory very loudly on a CD player with fantastic bass, this is by far the greatest album of all time.
