The Official "Power v Crows" Showdown slanging thread...

Now, now D1, 98 proved that 97 was no Bradbury. I almost agree on your 2004 theory, but Brisbane were a much spent force playing that GF on a pallet full of pain killers.
Do you really think Port, with the majority of its playing list, will be a force in 2010 and 2011.
IMO, and that's all it is, I think the Crows have a better list of younger players. Yes, I sound biased, but it's my opinion.
I think the Crows will be about where they are now for a couple of years before taking it to the next level of being a major player in the finals.

In all honestly I think the intro of Gold Coast and Western Sydney will stuff both clubs up. Its early draft picks (or father/son concessions) which are used to pick up champion key position players that will win you premierships. The draft and salary cap evenly spreads the top end of mid-fielder talent. Finding the next tier of good players who aren’t champions at 18 can keep you mid table or better. That’s where well financed clubs like Collingwood and the Crows have an advantage but could also keep the good key position forwards away.

Burton’s a good and dangerous player but he is not a key forward. He would make a good third target. The Crows aren’t going anywhere until they get a few good key position forwards. And that could be a long way off.

And that result is the only actual joy you will get out of football as long as you remain a Crows supporter. It's sad that your true football experience revolves around the fortunes of another team.

You will forever loiter around the middle of the ladder like a bad smell, and hope that the Power loses grand finals. Enjoy that.

Actually winning back to back in 97 and 98 gave me plenty of enjoyment as did, admittedly, your 119 Grand Final humiliation. Thanks for the entertainment. Port are certainly good for that.

Speaking of which, it's taking an awful long time for your mob to win their second premiership. Why is that?

And I really don't think the Power are going to make another Grand Final any time soon being the rabble they are. But hey, don't let that stop you from celebrating it like it's already happened.

Never say never ... Your team talked it up all the week leading into the geelong match & what happened? Hundreds of supporters were leaving before quarter time then half time & at 3 quarter time i would say at least 5,000+ had left.. with the rest shell shocked & dumbfounded, with the exception of a small minority abusing the **** out of your players & craig in particular.

I think you've confused the Port crowd at the 2005 dream final with ours this year. In fact, I heard fat Choco is re-thinking his secret weapon of bringing the team huddle over to the cheer squad at three-quarter time seeing that they only ever get abused by their own supporters when they go there now. Must not be very good for morale, eh?

It's ironic that you refer to 2004 as an "awful long time ago," one sentence removed from a discussion about your last premiership. Which, by the way, happens to be the last time the Crows won two finals in the same year.

In order get thrashed in a grand final, you need to win at least two finals. Home finals. If even a rabble managed to do that last year, what does it say about a club who can't?

Talk about abusing your own players, I know a Crows supporter who abuses Jericho for being soft, only to the mortification of the knitters in the crowd. He resents it every time he kicks a goal in a soft game because that increases his chances of being selected in a must win game, where he fails every time.

It looks like the Crows are going to do a bit better than the “Miracle” year of 99. Back then they were on the fast train to nowhere, this year they’re on the slow train to nowhere. I know it’s morbid to sit back and enjoy the slow death of an insidious creature, but it is fun nonetheless.

That's very interesting that you mention 'redemption' D1. Something Port obviously have no idea about. After last year, you would think Port might redeem themselves in some way, but alas, they have even humiliated themselves even more. And looking at Ports list, they will still be where they are in 2013 and 2014.
I mentioned the word "redemption" to a person who works for the Power. They didnt know what the word meant.;)

When did I refer to 2004 as an awful long time ago? I said it's taking an awful long time for you to win your second premiership. We got ours in our 8th year. You have yet to win your second flag since joining the comp in 1997. Geez, Port supporters are really incredibly stupid. It's like talking to a child, I swear.

A rabble managed to do that last year because they gifted a dream draw before they were exposed in an almighty fashion for all the world to see (and laugh at).

Poor reading comprehension on my part there. But your second flag after eight years is still two flags after 18, and your team is still a middle of the road picture of mediocrity. Your argument is heading into Collingwood territory.

And really, you're arguing with somebody on the internet. To accuse them of being stupid smacks just a touch of calling the kettle black.

Wow, an easy draw puts you in the top two, and into the grand final, does it? I seem to remember Port thrashing the Kangaroos in a final, who comfortably defeated Hawthorn in a final, who had just knocked the Crows out in a final.

Oh wait, the response? 119, ha ha ha ha! The Crows still can't win finals, though. Come one, how hard is it two win two finals in the same year? God, even a rabble can do it. Why can't the Crows? We're apparently an embarrassment, but we still win more finals than you. That's Super September Neil for you.

Give the Crows the same easy draw, like this year, and they still struggle to make the eight. I can't believe you would bring that up.

Yes- the insidious creature that is Port Power are currently thrashing around in their final death throes of season 2008 desperately seeking some explanation for the rabble they have become - and I am revelling in it!

Crows will NOT finish lower than Port - may even play in finals and have exceeded most supporters expectations this year.

Port are going from Grand Finalists to hoping to be a team that can "shape the 8" - well F*#@ Me!

Chaplin/Chaplain/whoever even wants this week to be "their Grand Final" - how sad - so very sad - to hang your whole seasons hopes and dreams on the result of ONE home and away round game...:p

8000 tickets left ! 19000 last Saturday night - how can you even call that a "crowd" - gathering of the faithful more like it.

Just waiting with baited breath to see what gem Chad will come up with to ignite the fire..........I think even he knows a dead horse when he sees one.....:D

You'd like nothing better than to believe the above, as it helps to ease your insecure ego that cannot handle the fact that your little SANFL team had to get together with 8 other SANFL teams to form a club that could compete on a bigger stage, whereas my club has made it on its own.
And as for being riddled with failures in our first 11 years, if you think that 3 minor prems, 2 GF's and a premiership is failure, then look out when we get our act together!

Yeah, we have teal in our guernsey now, and your point is?

If you band all your state opposition into one team, then yes, that was the only way anyone from SA was going to be bigger than us. And yet, you haven't won anything in nigh-on 10 years. What's the problem with your team? Are you happy with mid-table mediocrity? Are you and Collingwood going to be the eternal "biggest but nowhere near best" brother-in-arms?

I don't pick them up, I just break into cars at an Adelaide home game for the cash! ;) But not yours, I promise.

Yes. 1 Premiership. Riddled with failures. This is PORT ADELAIDE we are talking about. And only 1 premiership in how many years now? WHOA. Port Adelaide and 'chokers' in a sentence were unheard of back in the SANFL days. Now...well things are different ay. Can you honestly look back on your AFL history with pride?

Adelaide as a club, if obviously new, and although you say they are formed from the 8 other SANFL teams, they were not. Adelaide was formed for the Footballing public of SA. (Port Adelaide supporters from the SANFL actually support the Crows, whilst still retaining their Port Magpies allegance). It appeals to the whole state, and it represents our state. Hence, Crows/Croweaters, State colours, 'Ohhhh were the pride of South...' etc.

Port Adelaide Power are weak, mentally challenged and oddly enough wear one of the mardi gras favourite colours as their 'main' colour. Not to mention 'Thunda Power'...AHH! The Power should be scuttled to the bottom of the AFL ocean and be at home with the other 'mentally weak' club Fitzroy.

No doubt you have been robbing cars during Port home games, because obviously you havent been attending their games...(then again no one has anyway)

Just putting away the sniping for just a second - how is the number of remaining tickets the fault of Port supporters?

Me, like the other members, already have our seats. Where are the Crows fans who want to go?

I suppose that where the good coaches come in. Turning these second and third round draft picks into good players. Your'e right, Burton as a third tall is a luxury, but if he gets back, I'm not even sure if he will be that. Agree on our key forwards. Probably our last good one was Robran at CHF. No one has really stood up in that position for quite a few years. Hence the faith in Tippet, Walker and Sellar.

It's a Port home game - It will be their Grand Final - surely there are 8000 Port supporters who aren't season ticket holders or members !

Crows fans will be there and will probably outnumber Port supporters - why should Crows fans go and watch 2nd rate opposition - Hawks game sells out - Cats game sells out - quality opposition.:D

I will take 2 flags in 18 years over one flag after 12 years

2>1 :thumbsu:

Are you saying that ALL Port supporters are members? Wouldn't there be Port supporters who may not be members who purchase tickets to games on an adhoc basis?

even under a deemed flawed and therefore altered finals system?

Yup. At the end of the day, all that matters is premierships. 2>1. You're club is inferior and will not win it's second premiership anywhere in the near future. Too bad.

...and you should talk:rolleyes:
Aint no complex about you though, just an outhouse. Why dont you shut the door it stinks!

What’s an outhouse? Is that a toilet detached from the rest of the house, the sort of thing you find in regional Australia? That’s OK I like visiting regional Australia, the people there are so quaint. Although the lack of educational opportunities may lead some bumpkins to make poor decisions. Like that bloke with the elbows from Waikerie, who is under the misguided impression that he is anything but a bumbling fool when trying to be a boundary line commentator. Or your own poor decision when choosing to support a conglomeration instead of a club. But don’t worry, although it may be too late for some of your generation, advances in modern communication technology may give some hope to the children of regional Australia.

Come on now D1. I'm from country SA. And I prefer it. Pretty poor choice of words re the Roo and his commentary. There are shit loads worse. Dwayne Russell anyone??;)
Also what you are insinuating is that every person that supports the Crows has made a poor decision.
So would it be a good decision to come out and support Port because they have been around longer.
Shit mate, this is a free country. Anyone can support anyone. and anyone who supports the Crows has done pretty well considering the 2 flags so far.
Good decision I'd say.

I guess if you follow that line of logic then the Crows are inferior to Fitzroy. But are all premierships equal? Surely Fitzroy’s 1916 premiership is not equal to your 1997 premiership. After all, Fitzroy’s 1916 premiership was in a four team competition where they also won the wooden spoon. A truly inconsequential premiership of little or no worth. Now let’s examine Geelongs 2007 premiership. Finishing minor premiers with 18 wins, 3 games clear of the 2nd best team and with a massive 153%. A truly worthy premiership and one that derives a lot of justifiable pride. Let’s look at 1997. Finishing 4th at 13-9. In the semi-final, Leigh Colbert takes the most courageous mark of the year 30 metres out from goal in the dying minutes only to have the obvious mark disallowed. The Crows get up in a close one. They then go on to have two other clubs fall over in front of them. A tainted bradbury premiership of little worth. Now for 1998. Finishing 5th at 13-9 they lose the first final but due to a flawed finals system they manage to get a second chance (WTF???) and have three other teams fall over in front of them and claim a second tainted bradbury premiership of little worth. These two premierships are more stained than Argentina’s 1986 World Cup.

Now let’s look at Port’s 2004 premiership. Finishing minor premiers for the third year in a row they come up against the best team in the modern history of the game and prevail. A premiership of monumental significance and justly greater than 1000 bradbury premierships.

Port Adelaide, Inferior? I beg your pardon? Port Adelaide takes a back seat to no babka. People love Port Adelaide. It should be on tables at restaurants along with salt and pepper. Anytime anyone says, "Oh, this is so good. What's in it?," the answer invariably comes back, Port Adelaide. Port Adelaide, again and again. Lesser babka? I think not.
