Now, now D1, 98 proved that 97 was no Bradbury. I almost agree on your 2004 theory, but Brisbane were a much spent force playing that GF on a pallet full of pain killers.
Do you really think Port, with the majority of its playing list, will be a force in 2010 and 2011.
IMO, and that's all it is, I think the Crows have a better list of younger players. Yes, I sound biased, but it's my opinion.
I think the Crows will be about where they are now for a couple of years before taking it to the next level of being a major player in the finals.
In all honestly I think the intro of Gold Coast and Western Sydney will stuff both clubs up. Its early draft picks (or father/son concessions) which are used to pick up champion key position players that will win you premierships. The draft and salary cap evenly spreads the top end of mid-fielder talent. Finding the next tier of good players who aren’t champions at 18 can keep you mid table or better. That’s where well financed clubs like Collingwood and the Crows have an advantage but could also keep the good key position forwards away.
Burton’s a good and dangerous player but he is not a key forward. He would make a good third target. The Crows aren’t going anywhere until they get a few good key position forwards. And that could be a long way off.
