I'd have to agree. But anything after that album has been pretty crappie to me sadly.

Self Esteem is their most over-exposed track imo...

Come Out and Play is their true classic off Smash.

I've liked most of their stuff since them. Ixnay on the Hombre was a top album. Americana was a solid album too, and very unfairly maligned I think.

Conspiracy of One had a few forgettable tracks but all in all a decent album as well.

I assumed they'd be releasing a new album at the time of the "Defy You" single. Didn't happen...

I'm looking forward to the Splinter album coming out soon.

Each of their albums has a couple of cracker tracks but 'Smash' seems to be the most consistent.

For a while there, I used to pysche up for important business meetings by listening to 'Bad Habit' in the car before going into the building. Certainly has that 'get out of my way' feel about it.

The day that Pretty Fly For a White Guy came top was the day that both the Offspring and the Hottest 100 became a joke.

I'm a bit of a fan, agree about Smash - love it to bits! :D

Must say i'm a bit underwhelmed by the new single though...

just a bit of an update on the offspring
i heard that they will most likley be doing an Australian tour around february, march next year. I don't think they're new album is going 2 be sumthing 2 look reali 4wd 2 but it's guna b gr8 2 hear sum old stuff!!:D

Hmmm.
It is an interesting case with The Offspring and me.

Loved "Smash" and still hold it in very, very high regard but I hated everything after that.

Their music suffered dramatically after they sold out and I haven't been interested in them since.

The first time I came into contact with The Offspring was at BDO 95. They were awesome. If you want to hear some good songs get one of their earlier albums "Ignition". "Dirty Magic" and "Let It Burn" are their best guitar songs. Dexter is a very talented musician. They will still be good in concert, even if their album is crap.

Sounds like the background music to Sonic The Hedgehog... the stage where Sonic is bouncing around on mushrooms and stuff.

Sonic thats going back along way, kinda does a bit must listen to it again with that in mind.

Does anyone else think the "Get a Job" song from a few years ago, was a very similar tune to the old standard "Montego Bay"?

I don't mind the band's sound as such, but think there has been a fair bit of recycling going on over the years, in terms of material.

Yeah, the voting lines opened when it was at its peak popularity, I think it was 1st in the net 50 for some ridiculous amount of weeks. The problem was, a couple of months later everyone hated the bloody song.

I remember a guy ringing up in the day of the hottest 100 asking if he could retract a vote for the song because was so sick of it.

Well 2day my friend brought me the new Offsping 'Splinter' album 4 xmas and i have to say it's actually not 2 bad, not as bad as i expected it anywayz!

I'm a big offspring fan, havnt got a favourite song though, maybe "staring at the sun". I think people have gone off offspring since prob americana, and some say they arnt playin the way they used to. I think they are, i just think they have earned exposure and have been accepted by the pop community which is always a problem, look at what its done to Blink 182. Im still a big fan of the offspring, liked conspiracy of one and splinter rocks, so they still have it... IMO.

The Offspring are my favourite band, they're awsome.

Yes, they have a few stinkers out there in recent albums, all of Pretty Fly, Original Prankster, Why Don't You Get A Job, She's Got Issues, Worst Hangover Ever etc were complete crap, but after Pretty Fly (which was meant to be a one-off joke), the record complany wanted more and more songs like that. Ever since they've been trying to re-create the success of Pretty Fly, but have only ever come close with Original Prankster.

If you look past all the poppy crap on recent albums there's alot of great songs. On Americana there was The Kid's Aren't Alright, Have You Ever, Straing At The Sun, End Of The Line, and on Conspiracy Of One there was Come Out Swinging, Million Miles Away, Dammit I Changed Again, Living In Chaos and Vultures. Splinter also had more than its fair share of stinkers, but some gems on there were The Noose, Long Way Home, (Can't Get My) Head Around You, Never Gonna Find Me, and Race Against Myself.

And of course Ignition, Smash and Ixnay On The Hombre were all great, with Self Titled trailing by a fair way.

Favourite song would be Gone Away, but its imposible to determine a favourite album.

I always thought it was a deadset rip-off of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" by The Beatles (which I think was also used as the theme for Fat Cat... or maybe Here's Humphrey - not sure which). Musically, it sounds very similar to me.

The Offspring have gradually gone downhill since that irritating 'Pretty Fly (For A White Guy' single. They still had some good tracks on their Americana album, but I'm not interested in their work since.

Have been listening to their greatest hits album in my car of late, big fan of

Gone Away
The Kid's Aren't Alright
I Want You
Spare Me The Details
Can't Get My Head Around You
