It's a nice post. But he's been playing regularly for an established premier league team since he was a teenager. You must be fairly highly rated to be doing that, I'm not sure it's a Jamie Vardy level rags to riches story.

He's been in and out of the team and until this season I don't think many would have been confident with him leading the line for Everton. If he continues this form all season it's comparable to Kane's emergence when he had been similarly rubbished and written off.

For no particular reason, it establishes power in clubs that have the current longest record in the Premier League - without them needing to have any success.

Why should lower mid-table teams like West Ham or Southampton be given greater rights than Leicester who have recently won the league and finished 5th last season? Or Wolves who finished 7th in each of the last two seasons.

One club one vote needs to stay.

I still think making the league cup a pre-season tournament should be the way to go. Teams that get knocked out early can then make friendlies with other clubs to fill space to finish their pre-season preparation, and the league cup final at the end of pre-season would be when clubs players are normally just about fully match fit. Then there is also more space during the season for players to recover.

Except a lot of clubs would then lose flexibility about how they run their pre season. We used to go to Portugal for fitness training, why should we be forced to stay in England for a tournament?

Play the kids and lose the first game, then resume with pre-season as normal. Under my scenario it's a pre-season tournament, so it's not important.

What kids with what coaching staff? Most clubs would have kids involved with their senior side over pre-season to get an idea of who can take the step up.

I get the theory but it would never work in practice mate.

I'd rather it continue as a Cup that excluded European teams, with the winner getting a place in the Europa League. Loses a touch of integrity, but a lot of clubs play the kids anyway. Scrap the EFL Trophy and make this the focus for clubs.

The competition was originally inteded to be a cup comp for the teams who went out in the early rounds of the FA Cup. There simply isnt enough space in the football calendar to accommodate it, hence the reason why La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga etc only have one cup comp.

Even without coronavirus the competition was on borrowed time.

This is what I'd like to see. Teams may take it more seriously as there is a more realistic chance they could win it, and they FA Cup may benefit in greater relevancy as a best of the best knockout competition.
