As far as I can tell, tensions were high amongst the fans with the decision by the APL to sell the A-League Grand Final rights to Sydney for the next three years. Fans of both Victory and City planned a walk-out on the 20-minute mark but the protest escalated after flares were thrown on to the pitch by Victory fans. City goalie Tom Glover threw a flare back into the crowd then all hell broke loose. Fans ran on the pitch, assaulted Glover and the referee, tried to break the crossbar.

I'm guessing Glover gets a year ban, and Melbourne Victory get a slap on the wrist by having to play a couple of games behind closed doors. The fan protests about the A-League final being switched will be ignored.

City fans also threw flares, funnily enough, Izzo didn't feel it appropriate to hurl them back at City supporters.

Reckon he should realise chucking flares into crowded areas is a dangerous action. Hope he's arrested and charged appropriately.
Richarlison got a one match ban and you’re hoping Glover gets arrested? Think only ones getting arrested are idiot Victory fans on the pitch especially the dick who assaulted the keeper ..no excuse whatsoever

Not like you to get involved in a discussion on something he has absolutely nothing to do with.

Well isn't that the pot calling the kettle black.

He'll be suspended but cant see police action happening.

Yeah I went a bit over the top with that but he should have been smarter.

Do you always take everything you read at face value?
I just posted a tweet without comment, people can take it how they like.

When did United supporters (and the odd other person or two) become this oversensitive?

My comment was about the behaviour, not the subject matter.

These sorts of "sources" usually deliberately provide sensationalised out of context quotes to generate cheap reactions. I just don't get why people fall for it time and again I guess. Maybe that does make me a little oversensitive.

Im Out GIF

A-League looking like the Turkish league, bunch of jokers from fans to clubs and FFA. :D
We have had several incidents over past 12 months in English football of fans invading the pitch including one fan running past and head butting a player in the Championship that resulted in the player being knocked out. Have had plenty of unsavoury incidents in a few euro leagues. Not sure why you’re just pointing out a couple.

Why was a flare even allowed into the game into the first place? Indictment on security.

Did Lawrence throw it into the crowd or back over the advertising banners out of the way? I have seen conflicting reports and I am not sure if anyone can definitively say what he did.

Either way, if I had flare thrown at me I'd not be too happy about it either. Not condoning his actions but **** me a few of them could do with a flare to the head and we'd be better off.

I'd recommend not taking any tweet on Twitter too seriously , let along one from a 'source' you're not comfortable with.

I vaguely remember Lawrence Thomas did get a flare thrown at him about 9 years ago.

Flares are nothing new, WSW and Victory get warnings/fines almost every season for them. I guess with the crowd numbers what they are they've never wanted to spend more on the security budget. That'll almost certainly change now, which will hurt the leagues/club's already shaky bottom line.

It's said at least one of the flares Glover did go into the crowd which precipitated the reaction. It probably would've kicked off in the next few minutes without him anyway.

Brain fade, sorry. You know who I meant.

I think blaming Glover for this is ridiculous to be quite frank. These people responsible for all of this are just fackwits.

My comment that Glover might get a one year ban was OTT too. I think Richarlison should have got at least three weeks - flares can cause severe burns. This incident was worse, as throwing the flare back into the opposition fans was also provocative - like throwing any object into the opposition fans would be.

What Glover did was stupid but obviously does not excuse the disgraceful crowd behaviour that followed. But also, his injuries should not be a mitigating factor in deciding his punishment.

Good job at victim blaming.
