Lineker is good as presenter of MOTD but he's not that good that the show should be cancelled if he's not on it.

If Shearer has refused to participate then that would constitute a breach of contract and the BBC should use it to get rid of him from the show. He's got two modes of 'analysis'. "That was absolutely magnificent" or "That was absolutely terrible". Did you know he's the Premier League record goal scorer? It's not like he brings it up every ****ing week he's on the show!

You're absolutely right, they should fire everyone who has refused to appear. The quality of the show, I'm sure, will improve immeasurably. I'm actually surprised that you watch it every week as an Aussie. Do you know that we have an equivalent that is much easier to access?

We could loan them a couple of former podcasters as fill in.

Albeit the camera on Cruyff would have to have its angle slightly adjusted ;)

I've been so used to just podcasting about Hull the last 5 years I'd have to get back in the rhythm but I suppose I could do it.

He's either a freelance contractor or he's an employee. He might invoice the BBC through Gary Lineker Media but HMRC might argue that for tax purposes he's effectively an employee. He uses BBC equipment. It's not like he can go and present a show for ITV. He couldn't send someone else to present Match of the Day if he did not feel like turning up.
He has been on Sky while being on BBC. As well as ITV.

that will definitely fix the issue

What's he done on Sky and ITV?

Conor McNamara has said won't be commentating on the Premier League so there's one upside of this mess.
Cono McNamara is good.

He's done episodes of good morning Britain and some other time tv show. Google it

Reminds of when Sky used to do crowd noise only with no commentary.

They stopped it because everyone realised it was much better without the commentators.

Well well …clear double standards. Difference of course no govt interference in the Packham case

The BBC guidelines say "The principles on conflicts of interest apply to everyone, but how they are applied will vary according to an individual’s role and their level of involvement with BBC content". Lineker agreed to these guidelines when accepting his current contract, and committed to "tweeting carefully". Match of the Day is one of the BBC's flagship shows and Lineker is the main presenter. MOTD is by far what he's publically known for.

I've not heard of Chris Packham but the BBC ruling implies that they see him as a freelance contractor who works for other broadcasters, so his level of involvement with BBC content is lower.

Have to say I really enjoyed the highlights show, and don't feel I missed anything without the insight of Shearer/Murphy etc. Highlights were better without match commentary too imo.

I'm sure it will all get resolved this week, but I hope they take the opportunity to have a good look at the show and what they want it to be. For me less talk, more football.

I'm fine with Linekar fronting it (although he is as cringey as ****) but I don't think it needs him and I'd like to see interviews with a player and manager from each team. But other than that, I'd do away with anyone else, just doesn't add anything to the show.

At the risk of another PMSL, if all you want is highlights, sky sports publishes them as free to watch. Not sure why the need to tune into an analysis show just to avoid the analysis.

The analysis isn't worth watching, imo. I'm happy with the highlights.

Like I said, interviews would be good. But other than, enjoyed it.

Maybe of the analysis was better I would have missed it more, but I tend to fast forward MOTD through the shite Shearer/Murphy spout.

Do Sky do a highlights package of every games from the day or do you need to find a different YouTube for each game?

Each game, but if you go onto their Youtube channel they are not hard to find and are usually uploaded at the same time (bar the 5:30pm game) so they appear next to each other. Just ignore the shit like Saturday Social - where they get Youtubers, who are absolute morons but have lots of money thanks to kids, to talk about Football and they're all shite 6 fans.

Well as I said, they do highlight packages of each game. A quick google: Leeds 2-2 Brighton | Premier League highlights | Football News | Sky Sports

The other games available at the click of a button which is no doubt much less effort than fast forwarding MOTD.
