CFG should just whip a few slaves. That'll get Mendy his money.
Perhaps we could get a few tips off Joe instead. Or steal some land from Argentinian locals. See, we can all play this boring as **** game.

I don't think we'll have much of a leg to stand on with Mendy. He breached his bail conditions, and got locked up as a result. But that will only be a small part of what we owe.

Not sure if we have any recourse then, was the prosecution a reasonable one? If not, maybe we could put a claim against DPP. Urnlikely imo.

I don't mind the changes.

Sure, it will result in longer games, but clubs can certainly manage that within the squads they have.

And if emotion means that you have to shout abuse at the ref or kick the ball away (thus making a game even longer) then it's tough shit as far as I'm concerned.

My only worry is that the rules are applied consistently across all teams and over the season.

I don't like our owners. Just one little admission and lot of this would stop.
Hi, my name is Moomba and the owners of MCFC are disgusting scum.

Something like that, but you can choose the words.

Why does it even matter? Weird hill to die on. He is just some rando on the internet living on the other side of the world.

Why does it matter what some "rando" thinks in one of those discuss posts what they think about Beckham or Tony Adams?

Complaints about too many games are valid, but clamping down on time wasting is long overdue and is the fault of the players.

I don't know why you're bothered if I post about the owner of my club or not.

You certainly weren't for years before we tried to buy Kane. In fact you used to tell other posters to stop trying to turn every thread into yet another debate about our owner. It's been 15 years, since the takeover now. Anything that I want to say about Mansour I've undoubtedly already said.

Yeah, was talking more about the added time than number of games. I do have sympathy for players on the number of games, but I do feel clubs could manage their workload better as well.

According to this BBC article, last season the average amount of time the ball spent in play was

Premier League 55 minutes
Championship 52 minutes
League One 50 minutes
League Two 48 minutes

It's not clear why the time in play goes down as you go down the leagues. This weekend, nearly all the EFL games had over 10 minutes added time with some having over 20 minutes. This is quite a significant change.

There could be a case for two 30 minute halves with a timekeeper stopping the clock for any stoppage, but that would be an even bigger change from the two 45 minute halves that has been the rule for over 150 years.

There was a L2 game on weekend that went 112 mins incl 14 mins added in second half. They mentioned ball when out of play 75 times when average is around 50-60. Less skill as you go down the leagues

Varane makes the point that the actual participants in the sport aren't being listened to. This is no different to the fans being totally disregarded by the powers that be too.

Lesser skills is one possible explanation for those stats. Kicking the ball out of play is a legitimate tactic to clear your lines and reset. But the lower professional leagues still have multiple balls. It's not like booting it into row Z gives you a big advantage on the clock.

The refs can dish cards for slow throw ins. They should also be allowed to reverse a throw in if it takes too long.

Going to have to have a close look at the rules but as things stand I believe a thrown in can only be reversed for two reasons: Foul throw or taking the throw from the wrong spot.

A yellow card can be awarded for time wasting on a thrown in at the discretion of the referee. That should be enough to keep time wasters in check.

All the top European leagues should be reduced to 18 teams / 34 game season. France & Germany already are there. It would allow higher quality football, more rest time between European fixtures.

How about, and here's a thought, keep European football at a manageable level, or else **** off to a Super League and leave the proper leagues to the rest of us.

Yep, there should be less European football rather than less domestic football.

Or maybe less of both.

Why less domestic football? It's worked pretty well for decades, the only thing changing is the volume of European games.

Changing with the times. The game's so much more physically demanding now than it was 20 years ago.

And it is not like this hasn't happened before with the change from 22 teams to 20 teams in the mid 90s. That initially was also met with opposition but worked out just fine in the end. As was FIFA changing to 5 subs which now has been embraced at all levels of the game.

A lot more running around these days. Now games will be 10-20 mins longer. Can understand your pov as I got to admit don’t mind the 46 games in lower divs. But then again 38-42 is more than enough
