Alli better not play both. Carrying injuries at the moment. Knowing Roy he'll play 180/180
Is he? What injury is he carrying?

And yeah, you can guarantee he plays every minute haha. Good ol Woy.

Certainly makes more sense than the Walcott selection.

Think Welbeck should be 4th in line (behind Vardy, Kane and Sturridge) but I suspect he'd get a go ahead of Vardy as a sub. I don't feel as strongly on that one though, Vardy is somewhat out of form at the moment.
Walcott does alright for Engliahd too IIRC (not certain).

Danny is handy to have on the wings too.

So why select him?

If it's due to your thinking in the second paragraph, then why bother selecting Drinkwater at all? If Roy isn't planning to play him, it makes the whole thing redundant.

To me, these friendlies should be used to test the fringe players and see what they've got. It's the perfect opportunity really.

Normally yes, but not this close to a major tournament.

I'm sure that during these games fringe players like Drinkwater will be given opportunities at some point to come on and press their case for inclusion in the 23 man squad, but Roy has limited time now to fine tune the side in time for the Euros so the bulk of these games should be devoted to allowing the players who will actually be in the starting XI at the Euros to build chemistry and become accustomed to playing with each other.

Why would I start Henderson over Drinkwater? Because by the time the Euros start, Henderson will be at full fitness and without doubt will be named in the starting XI. Based on that, I'd give him as much playing time now as I can so that he can build that understanding with his likely partners in midfield in Dier and Alli.

Good point. If England are to make say a QF it'll probably be only the 4th or 5th time Henderson & Alli/Dier would have played together if he goes full experimental in this break.

There's two friendlies here and 3 before the euros start. I'd say 3 or 4 of those should be with his intending best XI because they're not as set in stone as most around Europe. Even Alli and Dier have limited games together playing as the deeper two with Alli normally playing more advanced with us

Welbeck has been very good for engalnd.

He turns it up for internationls and plays far better, Klose was the same no matter how they played at club level they turned it on come international times.

Ok, so say he uses that model.

A) What happens if Hendo injures himself in these friendlies (by the sounds of it, he's not completely fit?)

B) If Hendo or Dier or Alli go down (or 2 of them) in the Euros, he then has to rely on a completely untried partnership. He already knows what he get's with Henderson.

I'm going to go full Jod here but I don't actually think Henderson is that good anyway tbh. Certainly not good enough to just be a walk up start. I know we'll disagree on that so I do say that with all due respect ha.

Yeah those two guys under 22 ;)

Kind of makes my point though that they aren't a world power when two young kids are the leading cm options
Are they the 2 leading CM options? I guess we'll find out come the Euros.

What formation does Roy normally use?

Well yes, they do have 2 Spurs CM's in that squad ;):D
As at April 2015. We pull out weight.

England players by club. Doesn't include Alli or Dier.

Benzema could be in more trouble. French Football reporting he is involved in money laundering and drug trafficking.
They only have Marial, Coman, Greizmann, Giroud, Lacazette, Fekir is reserve.

If france dont win a world cup with the players that are coming through then something is really wrong,

I haven't seen enough Spurs to know how to rate Dier as DM. Drinkwater's passing has been great, and he would seem deserving of a start given the Leicester story isn't all about Kante. Walker doesn't seem to be as impactful at RB anymore but maybe I've been misled by their rotating full-backs.

It's pretty hard to ignore the Liverpool players as they're at 'peak' age, but I'd experiment and look for potential offensively-minded link-ups:

---------------- Hart
Jagielka - Cahill - Smalling - Rose
------ Hendo -- Dierinkwater
------ Alli --- Barkley -- Sterling
---------------- Kane

I'd use subs to try a full-on speed option - Sterling into the centre with Walcott and maybe Sturridge either side (replacing Bark / Alli) and Vardy on for Kane.

And I'd swap Woy for Rodgers.

Welbz is ten times the player Walcott is.
He definitely seems to improve Arsenal at the moment. It's been so long and he isn't that flashy so it's easy to forget why he might be useful. Walcott's speed on the other hand, alongside Sterling and Vardy, would be pretty ridiculous.
Stopped reading at Jagielka being in the side let alone at RB
Thanks for your insightful contribution. I rate him and I rate experience in defence at major tournaments.

As insightful as a suggestion of an avg player play out of position for the national team. I know England are struggling but they're not that bad

I know you're having a cracking season but let's reign it in a bit. It's Danny Drinkwater ffs haha.

Henderson when fully fit, starts for England and will do at the Euros. Drinkwater probably wont make the Euro's squad.
