Not a fan of tables like this.
If your free kick taker is a defender like Baines, you'll naturally have more in these stats.
Would be more interested in this stat if it excluded set pieces.

But then you're excluding goals from corners which is just silly.

Agree about penalties/free kick takers though.

Yeah, wouldn't read a whole lot into it myself DB (given how woeful our defenders are by and large). Obviously good to score goals and help set them up but if push came to shove, I'd rather a tight back 4 over one that leaks plenty but chips in with goals and assists.

Just chucked it up to see if it would generate any discussion.

Well that's inaccurate, Chester has 2 goals alone, and Elmo has scored and assisted plenty. If they're going to count Robertson (who I'm assuming they've credited for our one assist) not sure why they don't count Elmo who plays in the opposite wing back role.

Looks like you're right SM - had a quick look on whoscored and Chester has indeed got 2 goals in the PL with Elmo chipping in with 1 goal and 3 assists (though they said his 1 goal and 1 of his assists came from playing at RM).

Had a quick look over your squad and Robertson has 1 assist (according to whoscored) coming from playing as a DML (wing back and presumably part of a back 5?) - not sure what the criteria for a defender is according to the Trinity Mirror Data Unit (folks who made that table).

Rosenior also has an assist from 1 'sub' appearance (no mention of position he came on to play but would wager possibly as a wing back/full back?).

Hm trying to think of Rosenior's assist, can't think when it was, but he 100% would have been a defender at RB or LB.

Elmo has consistently either played RB or RWB for us, if they're counting Wing-Backs as mids that's a bit strange in my mind. Surely if a player plays in an advanced role for a brief time that doesn't change the basic fact that they're a defender? We played Maguire as striker for a patch against West Brom, but he's still a CB. If a keeper scored after pushing up at a corner, would that not count as a keeper scoring?

In any case it's hard to get any sort of accurate reading from those sorts of stats for those reasons.

Pretty sure Terry's a goal off equalling the record for most goals by a defender in the prem.

So you guys would potentially be able to boast having both the player with the most goals by a defender and as well by a midfielder (counting Lampard)?

Interestingly, both Terry and Lampard were originally West Ham academy products weren't they?

Agreed mate. It would be good to see the criteria they used (as well as the breakdown for things like set pieces, penalties etc) but without knowing it makes it difficult to interpret the table.

It was published by the Trinity Mirror Data Unit which I understand is the 'data collecting/record keeping group' for a collection of papers and media under the 'Trinity Mirror' banner. With a bit of luck, one of those may publish a more indepth article in the coming days explaining the criteria they used.

At the very least, you'd hope their stat keeping is accurate given how many publications fall under their umbrella (over 260 apparently)! :p

Vidic would have to be up there. Skrtel too if you include own goals!

Not sure how many OG Skrtel's got Oz, but you'd hope he's still a while off beating Richard Dunne's 12 (most in the PL according to wikipedia). :D

Yep and yep, both from West Ham. Terry came over as a 14 year old while Lamps was 23.

Could there possibly be a worse fan out there than this brainwashed shit stain? Makes the racist pigs look like angels.

Chelsea Football Club have distanced themselves from the Melbourne nerd who now fights for ISIS, describing him as a plastic who only started following the club since 2004. As a result, ASIO are now investigating 98% of Chelsea's fan base in Australia as they fit the profile for potential jihadists. Anyone who spots a Chelsea fan is urged to contact the National Security Hotline on 1800 1234 00.

He's an 18 year-old from Melbourne who recently flew overseas to join the Islamic State...

I thought it was one of the guys from One Direction - shows how out of touch I am! :p

He looks kinda like a rat to me.

Good riddance to bad rubbish!

This is bloody impressive: http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Ahme...y-appearance/story-26142594-detail/story.html

66 consecutive PL appearances must be close to the top? I know Lamps has 165 or something but surely it drops off pretty quickly out that for outfield players.

EDIT: Been doing a bit of research and Matt Holland (115) and Jon Walters (102) seem to be the only two over 100. If Elmo plays our last ten games and then starts the first 27 of next season he'll be top three.
