Disagree. Internation football not a training ground for me.

So let's just keep giving games to Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, Ashley Cole, and Gibbs because they've been there done that.

So your thoughts on Vardy are that he shouldn't be there?
I don't have a problem with Vardy being in the squad.

No. Not sure I ever suggested bringing players out if retirement.

Suggesting that you don't believe he's just on a hot streak?

FWIW, Vardy would be an excellent sub to bring on if England were chasing a late goal. Runs flat out and would put so much pressure on in the last 20 mins of a game.

So you're not giving games to the 'names', you're not giving games to young players, and you're not giving games to players currently in form. What's your squad made up of then?

Been performing at a decent/good level in the premier league for over a year now, through all the peaks and troughs you get over the course of a season.

Goal scoring is more a recent thing, remains to be seen whether thats a purple patch or the way his game is headed.

But I think he's in the squad to play that hard working forward role that Hodgson loves. Same as Welbeck, scoring really isnt a requirement, more a pleasant bonus when it happens.

Well said. That's basically what Leicester supporters have thought about him for a while. Until this year when he's started slotting them away :thumbsu:

I never said names, or young players wouldnt get games, or in form players. Just that you need to do more than have a good month of football to get a gig.

See it time and time again when players come into the league with a bang, and then things get hard for them.

Opposition start working on weaknesses, playing two games a week, fatigue starts to set in.

I look at someone like Chambers who got an international cap on the strength of a good month of football. Now with the benefit of hindsight we can see that he wasnt quite at that level yet (if ever).

If England don't have 25 international quality players (which they don't) what do they top up the final 6-8 players with? Younger guys who could become international quality or guys in some good form?

If results mattered I'd say the guy in form, but since qualification is tied up it should be the younger guys

It's a tough decision for the manager. Do you play some youngsters but risk losing and get media scrutiny or do you keep the critics off your back with a team you know can win.

Here's the flaw with the FA's plan. They have good long-term goal but have a manager who looks like he is very focussed on meeting his own short-term unrealistic goals

Yeah. I like Vardy as an impact sub to stretch a tiring defence.

5 City players made it. But that hack David Silva missed out.
Most underrated player in football.

Everyone likes him, but he gets no recognition.
