does any one here watch much of the championship?
im saying the top a league teams would be mid table in the championship from what little ive seen

I think Melb City, Brisbane and Adelaide could hold their own in the Championship, probably mid to lower table. The rest would probably be top half of League 1.

Do any of the clubs even have big centre forwards?
Western Sydney have Piovaccarri (who, incidentally, played 28 times and scored 6 goals in La Liga last season but has been an absolute potato in the 'terrible' A-League) but he barely plays any more. Adelaide have Djite but they play on the deck and he's fairly good technically. Sydney play Simon occasionally and a couple of the shit teams like CCM and Wellington sometimes play big guys up front but they're rubbish and even then they don't really lump it up to them. CCM play purely on the counter with their really fast wingers and Wellington are just shit. But that's about it. Most CF's in the A-League are pacey like MacClaren and Holosko (who's more of a second striker) or good technically with clever movement like Fornaroli, Berisha and Keogh and even Trifunovic.

Not sure how I forgot Djite!

city are awesome when teams let them play, im still thinking adelaide will win it, we need a new toilet seat
Yeah I'm concerned how we'll go in a finals series. Sure we can score a bunch but although it's improved in recent games our defence can still be poor at times. I think WSW play the best finals-style football and I think they will be the strongest in one-off games because of their defensive prowess and their very solid spine.

Can't believe another discussion on jod has lasted so long.

A league much better quality than jod would imagine, probably borne out by the early days of the A League where it was a pretty good description. But if you don't watch it how would you know?

But you can't force someone to watch or like a league or sport, and in the long run who cares if jod does or doesn't?

I'm with Jod but I've given the A league a chance. I was a Wanderers season ticket holder in their inaugural season and went to all games.

I just don't find it entertaining. Can't really put my finger on what it is, I just don't care for it. I think the English game suits me more for a few reasons. I watch the Championship every week as well as the PL. Not so much the Euro leagues anymore but that's just due to time constraints.

I tune in for the odd game but I just struggle to watch them regularly.

Pretty much this.

It might only be him on this forum, but dismissing the A-League pretty much only because it's Australian without actually watching any of the games is an attitude that is fairly widespread among many Euro-centric football fans. Understanding this mindset, where it comes from, why it persists and working to change it is one of the greatest challenges for football in this country. If football is to ever become a mainstream sport and have it's domestic league accepted by the wider public as a viable sporting option in a very crowded market then it has to crack this attitude. Not only because it's erroneous, but because it is incredibly damaging for the local product.

To actually give it a proper chance and then decide it's just not for you like Jatz is perfectly fine, and I have no doubt that there would be more people like that if the Euro-centric population gave it a proper chance. But I guarantee that there would be a lot more that would be surprised by the quality and woukd decide to jump on board. To just dismiss it out of hand while confessing you've never given it a chance is the attitude that the football leadership has to change.

Sometimes you just need to accept that things are the way they are. Jod doesnt want to give the A League a chance, and I doubt anyone that watches it is swayed by his assessment of the league.

Plenty out there who could be convinced to give the A League a shot. Thats who the powers that be should be focussing on.

Jod seems like an "all or nothing" kind of guy, so he's either gonna follow something intensely with passion (Liverpool) or just not bother at all (A League). People who are more casual observer of things would probably find it easier to follow something like the A League.

There may be a time when Jod becomes immersed in the league, just it's unlikely to happen in the near future. People should cut him some slack on this, he's not hurting anyone by not following the league

I do find the euro snob attitude towards A League football incredibly annoying.

For me you either love the sport or you don't. I can't imagine anyone that loves football not wanting to watch A League football.
That's very generalised. It's not a one size fits all scenario. Different people follow sports and pastimes for differing reasons.

I love AFL football. Don't watch every afl game nor do I watch or attend local football. I daresay many are the same. Yet for Football that is supposedly meant to be different in your eyes. Hogwash.

I have no affiliation or connection with any A-league team and frankly am busy during my weekends in Summer to have any fleeting interest whatsoever.

Some of what Jod has said is nonsense, he has contradicted himself numerous times. I agree with him and respect his right not to be interested in the A-league. Following this game does not have an Inherent expectation to follow the Australian league or local leagues. If you want to that's fine.

What did you think of Aaron Mooy?
I didnt catch the game, I was out. He scored though didnt he and he plays in the A-League doesnt he. I was much more interested in how Brad Smith got on. From all reports, very well.

Moving on. Australia won 5-1.

It was a boring, sideways passing, hoofball game.

Yeah good thing you missed it, you would have been bored shitless with all the A-League players!

Anyone here a ref? I have my first games this weekend and a bit nervous about getting things wrong - biggest is the difference between indirect and direct free kicks. Any tips on what to do? I feel like under-officiating is better than over-officiating but at the same time don't want to let too much go.

U18s and U15s in the morning then the reserves grade for my team in the arvo before I play.

I'm qualified to referee but have only done a few games. I'll get more into it once I'm finished with playing.

Just make sure you are in charge and you'll be right. Call things as you see it. Don't take it personally if players have a dig here and there but if they get abusive and/or argumentative card them to shut them up. You'll be right.

Yeah irony is I chat back to refs the worst in my team so going to be funny being on the other side of it. I'll try and set everything out before the game - in terms of what I'll be looking for (grappling at corners is my biggest gripe, I'm going to change the way football is reffed from the bottom up!) - but with smaller tussles I'll probably try and let it go until it becomes blatant.
