So basically the JPT is their version of the league cup

I would say it would be their League Cup to their League Cup that plays out like an extended Europa League, but only with English (and Welsh) sides as they have left the EU, and are forever alone as Scotland and North Ireland have left them.

No seriously, it basically is like an extended Europa League for the English that lacks the prestige.

I think it's a good idea to give the youngsters something more substantial to play against. I find it hard to watch when they're playing against other young players. No-one in the crowd is that into it, so the players don't celebrate as much and everyone is either finding their feet or thinking that they're too good for the players around them. Whack some experienced lower league players against them and the cocky ones will have an extra reason to prove how good they are, while the crowd actually caring about the result due to the money and the chance at silverware should keep everyone far more involved.

The internationals conflict is a bit of a shame, but I guess that advantages the non big teams and so theoretically evens it out a bit. Plus, a young player could choose to not play in a friendly if they're still in the Cup.

Guardian has an article by Pitt Brooke that Sterling was sugned on Peps approval. Has this been in the press before?
Has been mentioned a bit last year by ITK types. Not sure if it's been in the press though.

Sometimes I wonder how people who are obviously idiots get jobs at all let alone with a top football club.

I mean, what moron thought that would be a good idea.

I think a journo is a bit salty. So savage :D

Didnt Spurs actually say they declined because of Youth internationals and fixture congestion? I could be wrong... jd2010 WealstoneRaider Doctor Gero
“Spurs fear the scheduling of the EFL Trophy group stage fixtures will clash with international breaks when many of their full-time academy players are set to be away representing their countries.” Darren Lewis wrote.

"On top of that, because of Mauricio Pochettino’s penchant for giving his youth players a chance to prove themselves with the first-team, there’s no need to actually participate in this kind of tournament."

“Spurs will instead continue with their commitment to their young players having an established pathway to the first team under Mauricio Pochettino,” Lewis continued.

“They will also continue sending players out on loan to play senior competitive football.”

“The likes of England stars Harry Kane, Andros Townsend, and Danny Rose all had loan spells elsewhere before making it into Tottenham’s first-team picture. So too the likes of Tom Carroll and Ryan Mason.”

Mainly that. But also some regulations i think about not being able to pick players who might be named on the bench in cup/league games too
