Yeah, I saw that one, but the cover looked different so I ruled it out. Not sure why.

And I'm a big fan of Vonnegut, but didn't enjoy Slaughterhouse Five as much as his other books.

Do we know what book the prisoner put the shiv back into?

Looked like a hollowed out magazine as far as I could tell.

You’d think the entity or whatever it is would have picked a guy that maybe wasn’t going to a conference full of cameras, then maybe he wouldn’t have to warn a cop to stop investigating.

Half way through Ep3 and this is not what I thought I was getting.

Its a bit of a struggle tbh
I'm assuming the supernatural element is what you weren't expecting? If so, I get the feeling it's gonna lean more that way after just finishing episode 4. Starting to add some mythology to the mix i.e. nightmare-esque characters that parents tell their children to make them behave. What the hell? Those kids from those cultures must be scarred for life!

It's certainly going down that route and being based upon a Stephen King novel it was never gong to be any different.

The episode was good but did feel a little bogged down at times. Needs to get back to more Ben Mendelsohn

Wtf is the dude who got ? bitten on the neck up to going on a shopping spree for table and standard lamps etc to dump next to his eviscerated deer carcass ?
Bizarre. Did HE eat the deer (to feed the spirit that is controlling him)? Or was he just killing it to leave there for the spirit? The shopping spree made even less sense.

rate it. however, it's pretty easy to build mystery when you can ignore physical laws/reality or rely on deus ex machina whenever it suits. i love speculative fiction but was expecting a more grounded show (i didnt know it was a King product when i first tuned in).

Fwiw did anyone catch Castle Rock? Two seasons, a King storyline. I liked both.

Yeah, I did Gaso. I liked season 1 well enough, but initially didn't bother with season 2. I did eventually come back to it (when Foxtel played it in 1 big block) and it was better than expected & definitely worth a watch... But still just the usual King stuff. I find that shows based on his books live & die on the actors making the characters their own. As ridiculous as Mr. Mercedes got, Brendan Gleeson & Co. were great. Caplan & Robbins were really good in season 2 of Castle Rock too.

So far, The Outsider is about the equal of all of these shows... But in all honesty, I expected something better with that cast. Unless there is a major swerve coming, it's heading towards "just another solid King show".

I think I got fooled from the trailer thinking this was True Detective 3...

Excellent show, but I wonder when the investigation team will put the pieces together! Also what was the point of the suicide mission?
I’m assuming it’s showing that the infected “slaves” are also part of the suffering and that when they are finished being used they are full of remorse.

I think the suicide mission being so extreme was just to make more exciting telly.

Could have been to attract attention to what he’s undergone. Cop who first inspected him saw back of his neck. Maybe a lonely suicide would not have attracted same attention

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too, but someone in a review I read suggested that maybe it had something to do with Holly ie if her car didn't break down, she might've been closer to the action. I'm not sure how that works, but it was definitely intriguing.
