The pogues are coming

The Pogues last night were brilliant. Crazy decision by the organisers to have them in the Big Top. I left The Specials half way through to get a good spot and the tent was already over half full.

The band came on and played an instrumental intro before Shane shuffled on stage. He spoke but not really sure what he said beyong G'day.

Once he started singing, he was brilliant. The musicianship of the band was top notch and the set list was magnificent.

Streams of Whiskey, If I should fall from Grace With God, The Broad Majestic Shannon, Tuesday Morning, The Sunnyside of the Street, And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda (Shane got his verses mixed up and eventually missed a couple - but we got the idea !), Boys From County Hell, Body of an American, Dirty Old Town, Sick Bed of Cuchulainn, Sally Maclennane (my personal highlight), A Rainy night in Soho and finished with Fiesta.

I may have missed a couple out, going by memory.

The Gig of the year !!!!

Love the sound of that setlist Jim Docker... Cannot wait for Wednesday night at festival hall. Have about 20 friends, relations and acquaintances coming along.

The Drunken Poet in West Melbourne the place to be for pre- and post-match drinks, I'm tipping.

If you see 2 very pretty blonde girls, they will be my neices, so be nice !!! (No pics).

Last night was a shorter set due to time constraints in festivals. Was scheduled for an hour but did 2 encores that gave us an extra 3 songs.

Forgot to mention, by the time Fiesta was played, Steve Earle and Lynvall Golding from The Specials were on stage too.
