After Sunday's debarcle, and after having having a good coversation with some diehard collingwood people we all agreed that lucky we saw the pies win aflag in 1990,because this current group are miles away from, premiership glory.
Yes the current group offers some good highlights, but inturn melt into obscurity.
This has been happening for quite a while now.Players like bucks and clement are sorely missed.
If Sunday's game does not signal the need for an elite midfielder or two then i don't know what does.We should go for players like Kerr,Cousins, and say Prismall from geelong with all our arsenal.
Collingwood need another good ruck option and a key strong backman.
Warnock and Mundy from freo are two players who will be on the trade table at season's end.

Its time collingwood invest in an elite player or two,we have the money and resources and since Malthouse's reign we have not recruited one gun player,we have adopted the youth policy which is good but a team needs to have a superstar or two in the mix to get the desired result...A PREMIERSHIP.

Collingwood have The bulldogs,Sydney and Adelaide coming up and quite possibly we could lose all three, which bungles us out of the eight.
Players like Pendlebury, fraser and Davis are all injured and should not have played on Sunday.Where;'s our depth? Nothing in the reserves !
If we don't go out and trade agressively this year there will be alot of heartbreaking years ahead and this saddens me as a strong and loyal supporter of this great club.

I don’t think we need all that much. A ruckman and two mids. One skilled in and under and one skilled quicksilver runner. Maybe wood will be the ruckman but even then we need a second ruckman. We need draft picks to get our list right and we have to trade names to get them.

Think about it. Under this president/board and this coach we do nit trade aggressively. We trade out players that want to go and we delist players we don’t want any longer. The closest thing we’ve done to aggressive trading this century is to trade Tarrant and he has off field issues as well as onfield underperformance. I agree that we need to but I have no confidence that we will. Unless Eddie makes a form decision that the club must win a flag within the next couple of years and then chase it with everything we will never win one under Eddie. We will forever be juggling 5 years time with nice guy list management.

Agree, we should follow what Hawthorn did.

Let's poach Chris Pelchen. :thumbsu:

I have always said this year that we are 12 months away from being a real premiership chance and like many I think we do need another excellent midfielder who can win the footy out of the centre. I think this will be the year we make a pretty big play for a gun. I think the backline is good but struggles when we get smashed in the middle. The reason we haven't been able to get a gun recruit in the past is because we are competitive in just about every game we play and therefore end up finishing in the middle part of the ladder season after season. We have never tanked and always give 100% not like Carlton. The only reason they got Judd is because they tanked. It is a known fact that Judd wanted to come to Collingwood over Carlton but Judd just new that Collingwood wouldn't be able to do a deal because of where they finished on the ladder....... Cheats!!!!!

Midfield is our main problem

Seriously look at the top 8 sides Midfields

Geelong Ablett, Bartel, Corey, Ling, Kelly,

Hawthorn Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis, Sewell, Bateman,

Bulldogs Cooney, Cross, West, Boyd, Griffen

Sydney Kirk, Goodes, Mcveigh, Buchanan, Jack

Adelaide Thompson, Goodwin, Edwards, Van Berlo, Knights,

Collingwood Burns, Obree, Pendlebury, Swan, Shaw

Brisbane Black, Power, Johnston, Lappin, Drummond

Carlton Judd, Stevens, Murphy, Simpson, Carrazzo

We need atleast 2 more Gun Mids and i cant see where we are going to get them from

Every team i named have a true star Mid we dont

I'm convinced after yesterday that we need at least one superstar midfielder. Preferably a mid-age or young one. We should go for Kerr, or someone like that, and if not, get Cousins.

We got beat in the middle and our delivery with the footy was ordinary at best. Agree that we need to add some polish in there or put our blokes through an intense skills based off season. I think Didak is becoming a midfielder and his use of the ball is outstanding. Like every non-geelong fan on bigfooty I reckon Prismal is the one to go after.

I think cousins might be a good investment, provided he is fit and clean. What I mean is that we need someone who is a star in the midfield to help the likes of Obree and Shaw out. We really need a midfield that clicks. I don't know I think we should wait until the end of the season and see where we end up before we think too much about dismantling our midfield.

Games of Footy are won out of the middle!

well done to swanny on the weekend with 7 centre clearances and obree with 6.

Swany again showing his dominance and Obree still highly underrated at our club..

i would just say an A grade mid of the kerr calibre!
you will be suprised at how well the pendles, thomas', sharrods, shaws perform when they are no longer the center of attention!

i would expect the rucks to be serviceable enough to get us thru! as we are dominant elsewhere

Yes well... what about Kerr, Embley, Selwood, Stengline and Priddus.

Stars don't make a team successful, its how well a team works together as a unit that matters.... that being said i would like to see a gun midfielder come to our club. All those teams listed up there are at their best when they work for each other, and know what their teammates are capable of doing... where to run and be if there is a quick touch in a pack..and so on. This sort of communication makes some midfields seem brilliant. Must be kinda hard to know what your temmate is going to do if every 5 minutes its someone else lol

We need to draft players, trading rarely works out.

We desperately need inside mids as our current ones are getting old, also Prismal is not the answer, he is an outside mid which we have plenty of, a Priddis kind of player is the type we need.

We need to look to the draft for our players, pick up the best available inside mids with our first 2 picks in the draft and possibly rookie a good inside mid who may be overlooked because he is in the 175-180 height range.

MM also needs to get over himself and stop being so arrogant on gameday by not making moves and leaving players to languish, eg Thomas at FF for 90% of the match, leaving Shaw to be taken out of the match, etc

Thomas went forward to keep Thornton out of the game who was killing us as a loose man early. IMO it worked for that purpose.

Good Trades During Malthouse's era: holland, molloy, clement, woewodin, medhurst, caracella

these guys were servicable to good players... and clement, well as you said he was a champion and we miss him. and medders is currently in our top 5 best players

but i wanted to highlight Woewodin....Now this is a perfect example of what you speak about. Brownlow medallist this guy was, exactly what you would deem a superstar midfielder, and exactly what we were crying out for. we brought him over...and what did he do??!! SQUAT!!! delisted in the next few years

so you see, its not as simple as "lets bring in a few superstars for to the club". Jesus guys, stop being so close minded

i'm sorry but your post is just a typical knee jerk reaction. Miles off a flag??!! ha!! open your eyes... we have the nucleus for a premiership winning flag, as someone once rightly put it....we have a team of young champions who are developing into a champion team

the thing i hate about you guys is the way you want to steer us wayyyyy off track whenever we hit a slight bump in the road. Thank God you guys are not in charge...

Exactly.

If it's to be done it should be done through the draft. Attempting to top up with established players has never provided sustained success for anyone yet.
