At pick 83 or whatever it was - I think it could prove to be an exceptional pick.

(I didn't have this opinion on the day of the draft, but after researching his last couple years I changed my opinion pretty quickly).

EDIT: OF course time will tell - in 2 years we may be sitting here saying Rodan was the steal of the draft, and that Sellar was the biggest blunder the Crows have ever made.... its simply to early to tell.

C'mon don't double think it.
Rodan is a very, very surprising selection.

He'll be out of your program this time next year.

A former second round draft pick at 83 has the potential to land the PAPS a bargain pick up in David Rodan surly the same principals have to be applied to drafting a player as we have for Nick Gill

spot on dude, former first round pick - cost nothing.

not the worst thing.

Even if David Rodan amounts to nothing and is delisted in 12 months time surly it's a calculated gamble worth taking?

rodan always had issues with size.

nothing to suggest he has overcome any of his limitations - in fact the wear and tear of injury could have made it worse.

Gill is a risk too - but he has talent and size. He also has a couple of years of superb senior form to suggest he could be ready to take his chances.

This is it. A la Porplyzia. Once you get a body and adapt to playing against men in the SANFL, it is easier to make the next step to AFL footy, especially if you start enjoying some delivery from a dominant midfield. Whether it will happen or not, who knows, but the potential is there.

Rodan may or may not make it. The point still stands that with the last pick in the draft, there is probably more chance of him possibly doing something than the 80th best 18 year old at the moment. If he doesnt come off then so be it. Im definately not expecting miracles from him.

Gill I think is someone that could kick 40+ goals next year and be an absolute revelation. But there must be queries on whether he can get super fit, whether his rollercoaster kicking will hold him back and whether he can do the things hes done at SANFL level against much better defenders at AFL level.

I do think he'll make it though.

I would be suprised if he does. IMO The best case scenrio is that he will turn into a high 3rd/low 2nd tier White, Pettigrew, Willits type tall or worst case scenario Toby Thurstans, hopefully minus the nail polish.

Both Rodan and Gill were drafted as stop-gap measures.

You guys took 6 teenagers and needed to draft a more mature body lest you let your list get too young and inexperienced. Considering he was the last player taken in the draft, he cost you virtually nothing. Hard to argue that you have made the wrong decision, even if he's gone in 12 months time.

Gill was drafted to provide cover for our forward line in the absence of Hentschel and (to a lesser extent) Biglands. We needed someone who was ready to go NOW. Westhoff has greater upside, but we would have needed to wait 2 years minimum for him to bulk up, hence the decision to go with Gill. Once again, if he's gone in 2 years time (when Hentschel is fully recovered) then so be it - Tippett and Sellar should be ready to assume their positions in the side by then anyway.
