Bronte and Tamarama are better than Bondi. Newtown is good for coffee and bars or used to be. Surry Hills used to be good but a bit wanky now. Marrickville is meant to be pretty good these days but haven't been there for years.

Stayed in a AirBNB at Tamarama just after new years.
Looks fantastic overlooking the valley down to the beach, except the Libs have allowed this monstrosity to be 'developed' at the expense of everyone else who lives there

Anyone watched this yet...only two episodes so far....it is exactly what is...but its not bad ...Its a little clunky at times but I'm digging it so far. Then again, on the flip side, I found myself enjoying watching BRIDGERTON. My daughter kind of tricked or rather wrangled me into watching that. Nothing wrong with diversity I say!

Anyone watched this yet...only two episodes so far....it is exactly what is...but its not bad ...Its a little clunky at times but I'm digging it so far. I only saw the trailer, but they seem to have nailed the look of the games. I'll check it out eventually, I'm not a fan of pirating content anymore, but I'm also not interested in signing up to another streaming service. I think I'll try a free trial when there are a few more episodes available.

Next week I am making the regular journey up to see Daughter No.2 in QLD....nothing extraordinary about that needless to say I love to see my baby girl, who is no baby girl at 27. I guess its true that they're always your little girl. the eldest is 40 and she still is too.

What is different for me about the trip is I am traveling by train. I checked the average prices by plane and due to Easter I guess they were way above the normal prices. So I checked the price of Train to Brisbane....i got a First Class Ticket for roughly the same one way ticket flying. Yes I know 33 hours including stopping for 4 hours in Sydney...not everyone's boutique brewery.

It will be interesting for parts and I probably have no idea what I'm in for. My Grandfather who was born in 1899..obviously be 123 now died when i was 15...used to take me trips to different parts of Australia in the late sixties.. He would swear by Train as a wonderful way to feel the gradual changes from place to place...he would fly when necessary but if it was holiday time the 'journey' to the destination for whatever purpose was the where the magic happened. I doubt that is the case today but it will be the first interstate train trip I have made in 45 years. It will probably be a nightmare...no idea!

I've done Melbourne-Sydney both day and night. Far prefer day than trying to sleep in a seat.

Many years ago I went to qld on the train sitting up with a mate and it was so uncomfortable I hitched all the way back with a backpack and surfboard. Years later I did the same trip in a sleeper with my wife, travel from late afternoon get into Sydney in the morning have the day there and repeat to murwillumbah. We had the car on the back and whilst expensive it’s the most enjoyable easy way to travel worth every penny Imo.

I’ve flown up there god knows how many times, caught a bus back once, hitched, driven it in just over 18 hours with one non petrol stop, and caught the train sitting up and in a sleeper. If you the have time the sleeper wins hands down it’s super relaxing, you’re own shower and toilet, a dining car or order and dine in.

What do you do when you've invested a fortune in your apartment and the tenants don't have the cash to renovate. ( have a look at slums in some cities and you'll get a clue ). I maintain that you are wrong if you invest in "bricks and mortar". its land you want.

Anyway, they got approval to build penthouses on a new 8th floor, and the sale of the penthouses is how they financed it.

Before was worse.

Sure but people bought those apartments, and in Sydney they aren't cheap.
You going to just bulldoze their apartment?

That's why there are slums in the world.
You should see Kowloon, decrepit old buildings in the old shopping district. New supermalls a couple of blocks away.

What's funny is that it's obviously been there forever but it wasn't strong in my memory, perhaps it kind of decayed itself into it's surroundings. Sydney has quite a lot of big apartment blocks that shouldn't have been built so they get lost in the crowd.

I've done Melbourne-Sydney both day and night. Far prefer day than trying to sleep in a seat.

My mum in law is addicted to cruise ships out of Sydney ( she took the one before the covid ship ).
Her and her friend always take a train from Melbourne, its easier and more relaxing than a Plane, and she is kind of well endowed, so the train is good for that. The suburban trains to link up suck though. Luckily her friend lives in KooWeeRup and they can get a V-Line bus service from there, train from Pakenham.

Imagine if we had a proper train system , and we could do Melbourne to Brisbane in around 8 hours without all the drama associated with getting in and out of airports.

I've gone a measly 100km or so by train in germany. Good experience.
Arrive at airport, walk to train platform in airport.
Buy ticket, wait half an hour.
Shove your suitcase in the corner, sit on a comfortable seat with lots of legroom and a little coffee table. They probably have wifi by now.
travel 100km in an hour 10, including stopping all stations ( train goes around 200km/h ).

It bugs me no end that the preferred means of travel to the airport for the company i work for is taxi. They report CO2 emissions for company cars as part of trying to look green and improve, but they catch a taxi to the airport that takes the same time as a train. Germans have learned "prestige" from americans.

Sydneysiders obviously knew, it was described as Sydney's most hated building. I think they like the new variant better.
Would be awesome to have one of the new Penthouses.
Would suck to live next door. ( but the redevelopment probably hasn't imposed on it more than the original ).

BRUTALIST ARCHITECTURE......I think when its in an isolated incidence in an area, it can add a flavour and be dynamic, bold and almost handsome! If the style is en masse in the area without gentility and elegance to counter its brutal handsome charm...its ugly and damning to the area....I dont mind it ! It has to be maintained like many styles....or else it looks abandoned and grundgy. At its worst in areas it can reflect the lack of love and care that surrounds it.
