You reckon I'm a prepper? Nah just sick of the cost of energy.
With a VPP like Amber Electric I can sell high and buy low at wholesale and actually make money.
A big capital outlay to get fully set up. Had a 13kW 24 panel solar array for about 18 months.
That plus the battery and heat pump was a 25k layout, but would have been about 50ks withput STC's and govt subsidies.
Should have recouped around the time I die or dement.
I have a 30kw battery and 13kw solar array. Had it for about 6 months now so able to get a good understanding of savings. Saving about $350 a month so around $4k a year. Will break even in less than five years.
I switched to Ergon tariff 12e so any time charging is required from the grid, which is pretty rare, it occurs between 11am and 4pm at 8c/kwh.
I only export excess solar.
If anything I probably should have opted for a 40kw battery.

how is it off grid if you're still connected to the grid?

I'm considering the same TBH, but have a probate to get through first before I start wholesale changes. Suffice to say, single me and getting the most bang for my buck for plans I have to be fully sustainable, but I'm also planning to get peeps in to look at the wiring also as since 1970's and earthquakes and such you never know if things need updating and I do have a ducted under floor system to pull out as said panel has exposed wiring at present.

I am however, if my health continues as is, already partly demented as the RA brings brain fog as it progresses, so as I age it's all downhill for me, so might as well be comfy I suppose. Hence why further plans have a jaccuzi in them, so red wine and heated bubbles....
Spas are the best, I have a swim spa at home.
Steam saunas are very good as well, have been contemplating DIYing one from my timber stockpile.

Snapped up another wah pedal from Cash Converters yesterday for 69 bucks, the BBE Ben Wah. Should be here in a few days, very exciting 🤓

Made the mistake of leaving out the 'BBE' part in my Google search and just input 'ben wah', I guess now my google search and results will be impacted forever 🤔

"The Ben Wah is based on a 1967 Class A circuit design that featured a unique Halo inductor which is essential to its vocal-like qualities. Players and collectors who search for vintage wah pedals pay a premium for these rare examples. BBE has re-engineered and Custom-Tuned the Halo inductor to re-create the expressive tones made famous by the great players. In addition, The Wah’s potentiometer was designed for the ultimate dynamic sweep response. What's more, a Harmony control is added so you can custom tailor the 'Q' peak resonance of the filter to your personal taste. All components are Hand-Wired for the ultimate in vintage authenticity. As with all BBE pedals, the Wah features an on/off LED status indicator plus True Hard-Wire Bypass for a clean signal path when the effect is bypassed."

Looking at prices, that's a steal yeah?

Yeah, definitely a good price, however I'm not sure anyone's really paying the prices being asked on Reverb, eBay etc.

If you have some time to kill today, check out the Vertex Axis Wah. A major kerfuffle about ten years ago related to the Ben Wah 🥴

In a nutshell, the guy from Vertex Effects got found out for using the Ben Wah, adding a minor tweak, covering it in goop, and using his own branding and selling it as his own design, at boutique prices. 😵‍💫

Actually I remember there being heaps of controversy around vertex pedals. That's the dude that used to put pedalboards together for people but then started ripping off designs and building his own pedals (allegedly) if I'm not mistaken?

Yep that's the dude, Mason Marangella. Had a few associations with well known players for a while there. Here is the statement Michael Landau released at the time (2014)...

AN OPEN LETTER FROM MICHAEL LANDAU.

This letter is in response to the recent events surrounding Mason Marangella and Vertex Effects. I first became aware of the drama concerning the Vertex Wah Wahs through Clif Jones on August 16th. I was late hearing the news because I had been on tour and I’m not a regular on the gear forums. The news was not good, this was exactly the type of drama that has kept me far away from guitar pedal endorsements for most of my life up until recently.

Since I’ve never actually owned a production model Vertex Axis Wah, I anonymously purchased one 12 days ago so I could have it compared to the BBE Ben Wah by a reliable source whom I’ve known for many years,
I wanted to have a first hand account of the results. The results show that the Vertex Axis Wah I recently purchased was identical to the BBE Ben Wah.

Obviously I can’t be involved with a company or associated with a person who runs his company like this,
so officially as of 9-6-2014, I no longer formally endorse any Vertex products.

I would like to state the following facts for clarity:

  • I am not an electrical engineer, the only time I open up a pedal is to change the battery.
  • I have never used, nor have I ever endorsed any of the production model Vertex Wah Wahs.
  • The Wah Wah that has been on my pedalboard since January 2013 is an old Dunlop Cry Baby that was modified by Mason, I don’t know the specifics of the mods, it sounds good to me, it does have a Vertex sticker on it from when Mason worked on it a couple of years ago.
  • I do not use, nor have I ever endorsed the Vertex cables.
  • I use the Vertex Landau Boost because I love the EXP volume control function.
  • I use the Vertex Volume pedal only as an EXP pedal for the Landau Boost.

As of 9-3-2014 , I have instructed Mason to give all of the dealers and distributers a 30 day notice
stating that the Vertex Landau Boost and the Vertex Landau Chorus will be discontinued.

Out of respect to the entire guitar community:
If anyone wants to return their Vertex Landau Boost or Vertex Landau Chorus and is having a problem doing so through Vertex or the dealer they purchased it from, please contact Clif @ L.A. Vintage Gear and I will personally provide a full refund.

Michael Landau

And this from Bonamassa...

Hey Guys,
I'm sorry to be chiming in so late but I must warn all you fellow gear nerds to stay away from Vertex effects and pedalboard services. Mason is not truthful nor is his work good or in most cases his own. He had me on his site without permission as a user and happy customer. I am/was neither happy nor do I use any of his products. My pedalboard sounded awful, took tons of gain away, and added a huge ground hum. It also cost $1400 and that was after I pitched a fit when the $2000 bill came to my tour manager all the while seeing unauthorized You Tube videos of my " new rig" a rig I never tried nor signed off on. Fortunately Dave Friedman at Rack Systems came in and saved the day for $400. All I wanted and asked for was to have some cables cut to size. I didn't want to waste Dave's time so I gave it to Mason. BIG MISTAKE.... I am very disturbed by his actions and have heard recently that he has been called out on some Wah Wah Pedal stuff. Bad News Bear that cat is unfortunately.
So... In closing...
Just trying to keep my fellow guitar nerds from getting ripped off like I was.
Caveat Emptor

Yeah I kind of remember all that. I was interested in his dumble in a box type pedals but after researching decided to steer clear.
