Erps Cliff Clavin....

"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
"In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first.
In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

This quote has often been attributed to Cliff Clavin, but has never appeared in an episode of Cheers.

He has however explained that drinking ice cold beer on a freezing winter day makes sense because your body naturally regulates your temperature by warming its insides to combat its cold outside and therefore cooling the inside warms the outside.

When asked why he drinks ice cold beer on a warm summer's day, he replies:

"What else are ya gonna do with it?"

Hang on, why in the Jesus tapdancing **** was Wheels wearing a Footscray jumper?

I remember there was a very long thread on the old Big Footy about this.

The story went that the costume designer was from Melbourne and had all sorts of stuff in her personal collection, including a Footscray jumper. Not sure how true that is but it sounds plausible.

Theres a clip of Cliff saying it on youtube that looks very much like an episode of Cheers......

I always wanted a local boozer that had the Cheers characters in it. Cliff, Norm, Coach, Sam, Frasier....brilliant.

I have always wanted to punch Frasier.

Love the coach I always wanted to be him when I grew up.

Haha, post a link then! I'm DYING to see this long-sought after, imaginary clip!

It is an interesting point you raise (and I can't access youtube at work) but there are many who claim it was only shown in European versions of the show and was censored out of the US version. Why they would do that when it is only referencing alcohol in a show all about a bar I don't know..

It is in the quotes of the show here http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083399/quotes?ref_=tt_ql_3 but I'm not sure how reliable that site is.

I'll do some further checking when I get home.

Many quotes on imdb are user submitted, hence why a lot of doubling up of quotes occurs.

I can assure you that those words have never been spoken by Cliff Clavin. In the style of sitcom Cheers is, they wouldn't give that big a monologue to one character. Norm wouldn't even ask the question.

Have you ever noticed that the quote is also never surrounded by quotes of any other characters? No explanation as to why Cliff is saying this fact?

The "Buffalo Theory" is an urban legend that is popularly misattributed to Cliff Clavin from Cheers and regards the effects of alcohol on the brain. Although couched in language the character of Cliff could have used, it is not from the actual show, but is presented as such, akin to as follows:

I'm probably the biggest Cheers fan you'll find haha. I paid a guy from the US $60 to send me a VHS of the original aired finale of Cheers (as the DVD release is cut down), then spent another $30 on buying a VCR that could play NTSC. I know my shit.

You obviously do so I wont waste anymore of either of our valuable time....

I'm sure there is something on youtube but maybe it is just a picture of Cliff and the words being spoken.

Great bloody show though. I think it was the first ever American sitcom I liked.

Actually it might be the only one...
