Alice and Bone Machine for mine.... that's whats good about waits, all his work is so diverse and so awesome you could asked ten people what their favourite album is and get 10 different responses.... other great artists have two maybe three stand out albums... yes 6+ beers

Exactly, I like his early stuff when his voice was smooth, songs like New Coat of Paint, Virginia Avenue but also stuff like Cemetery Polka where he's a bit rougher.

Alice is my favourite, but Bad As Me would be the album I recommend to newcomers.

Last Leaf is so heartbreaking yet so full of hope. Waits is the man.

Blood Money is also a good time.

I've got Bad as Me but haven't given it a good spin yet, any song recommendations from it?

Rain Dogs, Bone Machine, Mule Variations.
Music the devil would make if he'd spent 6 months on a barbiturate and whiskey bender in New Orleans.

Hell Broke Luce
Last Leaf
Raised Right Men
Talking At The Same Time

Hell, all the tracks are good. Very diverse, uses a different vocal style constantly. I love his falsetto on Talking At The Same Time and Keith Richards sings backup on Last Leaf.

Will check them out, thanks

EDIT: This was my one thousand eight hundred and seventieth post in this thread.

Port Adelaide EST 1870.

Bad As Me is rising in the favourite stakes and Mule Variations might just be the greatest recorded work of all time.

One of the few albums I can listen to from start to finish.

Cold was the night, and hard was the ground
They found her in a small grove of trees
And lonesome was the place where Georgia was found
She's too young to be out on the street

Why wasn't God watching?
Why wasn't God listening?
Why wasn't God there for Georgia Lee?

Or

There's nothing in the world that you can do
Come on up to the house
And you've been whipped by the forces that are inside you
Come on up to the house
Well you're high on top of your mountain of woe
Come on up to the house
And you know you should surrender but you can't let it go
Come on up to the house

Waits was a lyrical poet who just happened to put his words to music. That's why his songs stand the test of time.

Self-explanatory. Dunno if there's another one of these threads floating around.

So I just learned that Brett Ebert is our third highest goalkicker in our AFL history. If he kicks 12 more goals before the end of his Port Adelaide career, he'll be second. That's depressing.

I just quoted the first post of this thread.

Be impressed.

That was funnier when I read that as 'fingerpainted'.
