Isn't that and cucumber sandwiches the most exciting part of the cricket match?

Hahaha Ok, lets stand around for 5 days in our pyjamas much more exciting.

I really don't know how somebody can like a real sport like footy but also a bed wetters pastime like cricket.

Some strange types out there.

So...you watch soccer, rugby, basketball and baseball.

Dat hypocrisy.

The toughest part about teeball is actually the sledging...

I mean the mental toughness one must endure when they step up to the plate and someone yells "hey batter batter batter"...ugh such grooling stuff

Ah, Basketball - 2 minutes of excitement, if you are lucky.

And that's just the mascot going for a double somersault slam dunk.

ITT: Man disagrees about importance of particular sport, internet fight ensues, no one wins, debate continues to rage for the rest of time and the whole world is ruined because of sport.

The end.

Hahaha they are both crap, cricket is just crapper.

I'm bored, so bored that even trolling cricket is boring me. I don't know whether it's because it's cricket or because I am just bored anyway. Either way it's boring so. END.

Is probably how my interest goes. Have exactly zero interest in soccer and I quite enjoy cricket and hockey when I'm in the mood. Fairweather fan of everything below baseball though.

Fantastic insight into Trott and what he deals with:

Fun turns to fear for Jonathan Trott

A joyous debut century is now a world away for Jonathan Trott as the complexities of international cricket catch up with him

A couple of weeks after Jonathan Trott's Test debut, he remarked that the experience of playing in the game, even before his match-defining century, had been "the most fun" he had ever had.

Did you watch 80s cricket? Maybe its a bit softer now, but so is every sport.

Wearing pads simply means you aren't a ****ing moron who wants to have broken shins. I understand its quite "poncy", but given the way its played in India, as well as country Australia, well you are calling a lot of people "bed wetters".

Cricket is just one of those sports that doesn't "grow on you" you either like it or you don't. FWIW I ****ing hate playing cricket, batting 11th and bowling once every match when you are by far the most talented spinner in the team (but not consitent, I was in the 4ths) while the other two bowl a tonne and bat up the order is ****ing bullshit.

I'd imagine test cricket, especially at the highest level, would be very draining mentally and physically. Imagine batting for a day straight, facing bowl after bowl after bowl, knowing if you only get your shot half an inch wrong you could be out. Takes a lot to mentally and physically get through it.

Then there is the pressure of being out of form, it's not like many other sports where you can fade into the rest of your team on the field. Bowling is individual, batting is individual, so much pressure on the individual performance. Imagine sitting on two sub double figure scores and coming out to bat, you would be riddled with mental demons.

I always liked cricket, and used to sit through 5 days of every test, every year, usually by myself, in the members. But I understand what Chiwigi's saying to a point. Historically it's very much an upper class game, particularly in England. But I love it's eccentric characters, and it's those English "bed wetters", commentators like Henry Blofeld, Christopher Martin Jenkins, Aggers, Brian Johnston and the like who make the sport so watchable.

The ABC should take a leaf out of the BBC's book and install great, humorous story tellers like John Doyle to it's radio coverage as the current ABC line-up is insufferable to listen to.
