I lost a family member this week and it has turned into worst week of my life.

I heard on the news that Nelson Mandela's funeral will be attended by overseas dignitaries Prince Charles and Oprah Winfrey.

Big deal-the late great man would be thinking up in the sky. I also heard the locals he spent much time with and loved are being kept away by the security forces from his funeral.

Not sure that that's the case, since when he was alive he met for a photo op with pretty much every celebrity on the face of the earth.

I went to two funerals this week, one my girlfriends nan who was 92 who died after a year or so of her health degrading, so it was sad, but also quite upbeat.

The other was a 60 year old family friend who died in an accident on a vineyard. That one was really awful, his daughter's eulagy was outstanding, but still very hard to watch. It was worst for his wife of 30 years who was crying through nearly the whole funeral, I really can't imagine much worse happening to someone.

I was on the outside for both funerals really, as I didn't know the people that well, for you its different, and I'm so sorry to hear that. Best of luck with everything.

He wouldn't be happy about the locals he grew up with being excluded from his funeral. Of course the dignitaries are important but so are the locals according to African tradition.

One of those gathered said she believed his presence back home would bring good fortune to this modest village. But some expressed unhappiness that they would not be allowed to attend the ceremony because of a strict guest list.
"How can you have a guest list for a funeral, that is unAfrican," an elderly woman told me. According to local traditions, everyone is welcome at a funeral and the more, the better.
Another woman who lived a few houses away from Mr Mandela's home said she would miss his generosity. "At Christmas time Tatomkhulu (grandfather) would give us clothes for our children".
"He was our Christ," she said crying.

Thanks, i don't know anyone personally here but as a community it is outstanding and hopefully in the future I will be lucky enough to meet a few and talk everything PAFC.
