The 105,000 people watching the Winter Classic in Ann Arbor in -11 degree snowy conditions makes some of our "but it's raining!" excuses for sub 20,000 crowds look downright pathetic.
Just finished watching the replay. Stuffed if I know how people could see the puck from the close seats let alone halfway back or the very back seats on such a gloomy day - not that it would be much better on a sunny day.

The game was played at Michigan Stadium or The Big House, is home of University of Michigan Wolverines. The official crowd was 105,491 and was 34,000 more than the next NHL Winter Classic crowd. Last years Classic was cancelled because of the NHL player lockout. So because of TV contract as its a 1st of January game started in 2008, they organised The Big Chill in The Big House game between Michigan and Michigan State within a couple of weeks and hot 104,173 people to the game. This was the world record crowd for an ice hockey game before the Red wings v Maple Leafs game on new years day.

The stadium capacity is listed as 109,900 but they got 115,100 to a Michigan v Notre Dame in September and have averaged 112,000 to their home gridiron games for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons.

The viewing angles of the cameras for TV were fairly average too. Besides that though, it was an amazing site to see. I stopped and wondered if I would endure an ordeal like that to watch Port play and figured I probably would. I only watched the build up and the first half of the first period but it looked like a special occasion worth being at.

But Football Park is so far away! It's 20 minutes from where some people live. Sob. Boo hoo.

That dude has the longest neck I've ever seen.

Arnold Briedis is the benchmark.
