To put this colossal waste of time into perspective, if my first year on BigTinny was Reception, I'd be doing me SACE necks tyeer.

If my first year of bigfooty was reception I'd be in year 7 and that would make me twelve years old. So I am 12 and what is this.

I'm also looking forward to next year when I grow body hair and my penis starts working.

Ten didn't overtake Nevermind in total US sales until a few months into 1993. Nevermind went absolutely berserk on release while Ten was more of a slow burner in 1991.

Metallica had a decade of established fanbase at that point, you can't really compare them to Pearl Jam and Nirvana who were coming out of the blocks.

I don't agree that Pearl Jam were bigger at all. Nirvana were like the Beatles in the early 90s, while Cobain was very much alive. No other band garnered the same level interest.

Regardless, Nevermind was a far more interesting album and is so influential because of that. Ten was a watered down plodder in comparison. Nevermind would still be far more influential if Cobain was alive.
Comparing nirvanas popularity to the Beatles is way off the mark. I was 16-18 when nirvana, pearl jam and the likes started, everyone except me loved pearl jam, despite a few singles on the pop charts nirvana were relatively unknown, until he died. I hate pearl jam and like some nirvana songs a lot more, but I'm not letting post death hype get in the way of the truth at the time. I hate defending pearl jam, but in the early 90s they were the big band out of Seattle.

The Edge being more than 20 places ahead of Frank Zappa, around 40 ahead of Eddie Van Halen, and 50 ahead of David Gilmour tells you all you need to know about this list, let alone guitarists like Eric Johnson not even making it.

The Edge.... Oh dear... I needed 5 minutes to compose myself.

Even Cobain admits he was just trying to rip off the Pixies.

Black Francis was a songwriter Kurt Cobain was a copycat.

And you Pearl Jam Foo Fighters fans can tongue my hairless sack*.

Pre Justice for all is ok..... Rust in Peace shits on anything Metallica ever released
Are you saying Justice ain't killer?

RIP is the best album produced between the two though, with Ride the Lightning coming a close second.

Didn't one of Pearl Jams albums break records when it was released? I don't mind hearing Nirvana songs or Pearl Jams once in a while, I personally felt that those songs mentioned were better, that is a personal choice. I did not state in my original post that they became more popular than they were after Cobain's death, I wrote that it 'enhanced their status'. you know...the punk thing?
Right said Fred sold lots of records.

I thought there was a bit of filler not killer on Justice & it has an average production sound, MOP is their best album & I do like the rawness of Kill E'm All (some great mustaine songs :p)

I'd have Peace Sells before Ride the Lightning out of the two bands again... run's away before megadeth fanboy accusations

I like Nirvana but Nevermind is actually the album I avoid.. hate the commercial over-produced sound
The great thing about nirvana is the difference in styles in the albums.

I rate albums by no matter how much I thrash them I still go back.

When it comes to the grunge era in utero and bleach are the two I go back to, as well as melvins Houdini and soundgarden's bad motor finger.

I personally like Eddie Vedders solo ukalali album from into the wild better than PJ.

The pixies and nirvana to grunge is like Greeks and Italians with sex.

O and as long as you bleach you ring.
