Did you know that Whitney Houston's debut LP, called simply Whitney Houston, had four number one singles on it? It's hard to choose a favourite among so many great tracks...but The Greatest Love of All is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation and dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves. Since it's impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It's an important message. Crucial really...as beautifully stated on the album.

Now excuse me...I have to go get my chainsaw serviced.

I have to return some video tapes.

Next level beautiful. Like Grace Kelly.

My sister, living in Melbourne, sent me a parcel a few days before my 10th birthday.

In the lead up to the big day, it didn't come.

I rushed home from school on the day, it hadn't come.

1 week passed. 2 weeks passed. 3 weeks passed. Enquiries at Australia Post were met with shoulder shrugs.

Then one crisp June evening as I was bouncing a tennis ball off the front wall as I was want to do, a balding middle-aged man in an Australia Post one-tonner pulled up with a parcel in hand.

"Is your mum home?"

- "She's just gone round the corner to the shops".

"Make sure she gets this".

- "Shucks Mister, I'll make sure".

It turned out to be Kung Fu for the NES. I waited a month for Kung Fu on the NES. Let down.

Fast-forward 4 years and mum and said Australia Post contractor were dating after meeting through the local church. The first time I went to his place he showed me his shed where he worked on all manner of cars including his classic 50's Chrysler. I was more interested in the stacks and stacks of parcels littering every spare corner and shelf.

"It's a bit naughty, but I often get a backlog, so I decide which parcels are and aren't important and deliver them all eventually".

OBVIOUSLY LITTLE TRIBEY'S 10TH BIRTHDAY PRESENT PACKAGING WASNT RAZZLE-DAZZLE ENOUGH HEY KHENT is what I would've liked to have said.

Still, cold case closed.

My wont is never to say "Shucks". Not never in my hole life.

What is your initial feeling or reaction to this house? My partner and I both felt the same thing when we looked through the pictures, nothing humorous or anything, just curious on what you think.

It's VERY old, and not actually that big. However the actual property and yard is incredible, and I'm a sucker for slate.

It's got character, but personally, it's too old for me and the furnishing I would have to do to bring it up to speed, as well as some painting, would be too much, but you could find lots of worse places for more $$$.

No life in that house. Got a creepy feel like an entire family was killed there & it's had a thorough clean.
Or could just be typical Adelaide Hills general creepiness.
How's that print in the upstairs hallway?

SPOT ON! The exact feel we got. I literally felt uneasy browsing through the pictures. Something lives there, and it isn't living.

One of the many notches on Warren Beatty's belt. Married Dennis Hopper - got divorced 8 days later.

Another of Warren's notches, Carly Simon, set pulses racing back in the day - probably due in the main to one particular album cover...

When we were looking 12/13 yrs ago we quickly recognised the feel of the house is very important. We wanted an older house but these were often scenes of hardship & tragedy and, don't laugh, we believed there is residual vibe of ghosts past that becomes part of the houses character. We settled on a place built in 1889 that had a good feel.
Fast forward about a year after purchase, we're happy here, and I came across someone through work with the same distinctive surname as the the previous owner. This person was a cousin, but said the previous owners daughter also worked with them. Found her, got a good backstory based around unity, family and fun. Our property was the hangout for the local boys and girls who'd meet there every night and it wouldn't be unusual to have 5-6 teenage boys sleeping on the lounge room floor every night. Had a few of these kids, all grown up, drop in over our first few years to visit the previous owner and shared a drink and a laugh as they'd tell yarns about the old place & surrounds.
Twelve years later, still a happy house. Trust your instincts Feel when you're looking at old places.

Don't worry, I know. Funny thing actually, our old family house had a big front lounge room that none of us really used or went into. However after we had sold the house, it came up in conversation where one of us asked "Hey...did you guys always feel very uncomfortable like you were being watched in that front lounge room?" we all piped up and said "YES! There was something wrong with that room."

Fast forward a few years, we found out the new owners of the house had, get this, hired an exorcist to exorcise the front room. We had never told them anything about the room so this was completely off their own volition.

That is genuinely odd.
