Dante & Randall talking about contractors working on the Death Star. Randall mentions something like none of the storm troopers would know how to install a toilet, all they know is white suits & killing. Enter Finn, who worked in sanitation.
Oh Clerks :hearts:,
Clerks 2 not so good but ok.
Theres a 3rd in the works though..sometimes you need to just stop.

What's on the menu tonight PB? VB stubbies fresh out of the fridge and taped to the forehead to cool a brother down?

Ha, cool.
I thought the woman who alerts the First Order that the droid is in the cantina might have been some sort of Twin Peaks reference. She has a dress with the same pattern as the floor in the Red Room, and she spoke backwards to the Hutt-like creature she was laying with, similar the Man From Another Place.

Sorry to hear.
Must try, Queenslanders kill for it. Although they dont do a cider that you would like. Breed em tough up that way. Sugar cane goes in to some of the beer. Apples??? They have no ****ing idea what cider is in Queensland. Youd have to go to Tassie for your Cider Dylan.

Dunno where the cider talk has arisen from. Cider is shit. Beer :thumbsu:

I quite enjoyed Star Wars but it wasn't a classic Star Wars film along the lines of even the prequel trilogy. Abrams set out to make a fun sci fi action romp with heavy Star Wars flavour and he achieved that quite well.
The other movies (even the prequels) were more of a "space opera" whereas TFA didn't really care about a grand story or character development as much, and instead opted for some really fun scenes.
So while TFA had some really good casting, characters, and a pretty good script and plot it was never about creating a new epic film trilogy.
a few whinges:
Ryu (or whatever her name) developing force powers to match/beat a well trained Jedi within about 5 minutes took a steaming dump on the previous films, but I can see how the movies needed that to happen to be fun.
I actually didn't think Kylo Ren was that great. Certainly more character than Maul or Dooku but kinda swapped between whiny bitch and badass too often. The scene with the aliens killing those smugglers in Han's ship was classic Abrams "don't worry about developing story, this'll look cool in the final cut"
Will defs watch again though and look forward to seeing how this trilogy develops.

Well someone on here said you like cider so i went with it. Each to there own. No biggy, i cant call you a girl cause Portia will jump on me and quote this for another sexist post.

Anyway.

The JJ in Abrams name stands for Jar Jar. Explains why he is such a ****ing plastic/manufactured director who churns out moderately enjoyable films but never a classic. Leaving you thinking "it was alright" and never really thinking about it much afterwards.

I liked it much better the second time. My criticisms were a bit harsh but still relevant. I counted like 3 screen wipes when they could've used perhaps a dozen, the camera angles I accept for what they are, and the music was very serviceable even if no memorable new themes.

No spoilers ITT or on the board I think. I think we did good. Except for Doctor Feel. Screw that guy.

Hey. I gave no spoilers, it wasn't my fault I guessed the entire plot by accident when trolling about what the eventual plot would be.

Ben eckermann is the inaugural captain phasma award winner for services in being pointless and getting rekt.

Careful, some people will completely refuse to see it from your point of view.

Just seen it

Its in between 4-6 and 1-3 in quality
Very much a 1st part of the movie
You guys whinge way too much

Little dissapointed in the lack of podracing references

It's kinda funny how the racial stereotypes portrayed in Star Wars are so unpopular... except for all of the Imperials having strong English high society accents.

I was wondering about the screen wipes, I know its pretty much a Lucas/Burtt editing thing , though minor it's a big part to me of a Star Wars presentation , got to say being a Star Wars tragic the comments of it being a 'Guardians of the Galaxy' gen y with gen x nostalgia really worries me.

Its fashionable to shit on Lucas and I get it with the prequels and endless tinkering but I wasn't as excited and convinced that Abrams and Kasdan were going to return everything we liked about the original trilogy, I enjoyed the trailers but the concern of a 'New Hope' rehash with a spin reeks fan service and little series progression, the casting, acting and tactile feel with practical sets and characters looks promising and for the most part I like JJ's directing with his characters comradeship and believability by taking the best of early Spielberg but by half way JJ's films usually nose dive with horrible cringe worthy shit, Kasdan other then fixing dialog, pacing and suggesting some good additions, past glories and nostalgia has pretty much over valued his worth in 2015.

Film score sounds depressing , in his 80's it might be Williams swansong? , Burrt is out for sound effects etc?, again another pioneer and big part of Lucas film sound/effects, I hope his replacements carried the baton.

Nothings really going to live up to my love of early Lucas film and the eras contemporary classics, it moulded my childhood and set my type of standard for my action/saga genre, movies since the 90s trying to replicate lightning in a bottle genre predecessors with forced over use of over the top set pieces, special effects and humour frankly shit me.

It will be a while until I see the new film, going to be hard not stumbling on the plot and spoilers, I'm hoping for the best with this saga.

Major spoilers contained within so don't click on this until you've seen it.

Enjoyed it overall. Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma was created after principle shooting had already started - she's just there as a manifestation of the First Order that Finn rejected. The "Boba Fett" of the movie. She could turn into Finns "Vader" the way that Kylo Ren is Rey's, but Abrams deliberately left that ambiguous so Johnson wasn't pigeonholed into using her if he didn't want to.

The first part of the movie was fantastic. Great pacing, great music that didn't become overbearing and detract from the visuals. I actually thought the introduction of Han Solo weakened the story a little if only for the fact that Harrison Ford still has a bee in his bonnet about the character being equally if not more iconic than Indiana Jones - I'm not going to say he phoned it in like he did in ROTJ, but until the "twist" occurred, I didn't get the impression of a man who had lost his family and then went back to what he felt he was good at. So when the other "twist" occurred...I don't know, I was kind of glad it did so Harrison can go do whatever he wants to do, because it isn't SW. There was no emotional attachment to the scene. The same can't be said of Adam Driver, who does an exceptional job of portraying what is in effect an impotent Vader - when things go wrong, he knows he can't blame anyone but himself because it's his own weakness that defines him. He kind of acts like a spoilt brat.

The middle portion of the movie could have been done a bit better, IMO. I would have had the conversation Rey has after her vision be with Han, purely because he could have told her about a son that left him and how hard it was for him, which would have made the audience more invested in the subsequent revelation and the consequences of act three.

The creation of the Starkiller base was a plot device to destroy the government of the Republic, which on the face of it just seems to be another Death Star plot device but the reality is that it's more of a WW2 callback to the OTs WW1 - but it was necessary to again push the story into a struggle between good and evil. The rantings of General Hux called to mind the rantings of Hitler.

Some people have complained that Rey shouldn't have been able to use the Force as well as she did without training, but how much training did Luke have? Also, she was clearly the age of one of the younglings in the PT, so if she was originally part of Luke's academy but then hidden away she would have had some basic retention of knowledge. I think she suppressed it more than didn't know about it, and the reason she did so was because it was that power which kept her away from her family, who obviously left her on Jakku as a way to protect her.

Oh, and when Rey flew the Falcon, all I could think of was "And who's gonna fly her, kid? You?!"

I can understand why some will say it feels "off" though. I think it's like when you get a new pair of shoes - it takes awhile to get comfortable in them. I actually enjoyed the new characters more. Especially the dynamic between Rey/Finn and Poe/Finn - they pulled that off really well.

Gonna see it again over the weekend. It's good...really good...and a great starting point for the new trilogy.
