BluRey, DVD, same thing really. They really didn't kill off DVD they way they were expected to, ala DVD to VHS.

Still, the f@%kers didn't put the features on the DVD! And I couldn't be arsed buying a Blu-Ray player for one movie. Well, not yet...

Bluray was stuck in the middle. It really just filled the very brief gap between dvd and 1080p/i digital content. It never captured a majority market share.

It also gained a bit of the pc/console game market but was shortly destroyed by a then rampantly growing Steam and digital download market.

They still get the rights to the consoles, laptops and pcs though, which is a huge money spinner. However future devices as a whole will be driveless as we move to completely digital solutions.

Meanwhile on N64 we had this piece of shit.

lol I remember that looking so awesome at the time. now it resembles a commodore64 game.

i made the same mistake with goldeneye64 and MOH: Frontline in the past. killed my nostalgic buzz.

it's funny how our memories get a current-gen graphics upgrade.

I remember being blown away by MOH: Allied Assault opening beach sequence. Visuals and audio. Now it's like "i can't ****ing see anything."

Consider how we played on relatively tiny CRT screens. Maybe they did look a lot better at tiny resolution on a tiny screen when you were sat on the couch several metres away.

Thing is Cruisin USA looked like a SNES game, it was released for the same console at the same time as other launch titles like Mario 64, Mario Kart, and even Shadows of the Empire. Of course the rest have aged badly, but Cruisin USA was aged on release.

I reckon from a gaming experience perspective, that still holds up. Pity the rest of MOH was poo, especially compared to COD at the time, before it became a punchline. Amazing level and entry to the game, all downhill from there. It really capitalised on Saving Private Ryan.

Not got a current gem gaming console?

Consoles? This is the last one I bought. No, seriously...

Though I almost bought a Quickshot joystick for $5 at GameTraders today for ol' times sake. Then I realised I had no f@%king use for it anymore. So I put that money to Star Wars figures, first new ones on the shelf in three months...

Shit graphics have a silver lining though, GTA San Andreas still feels like a bigger map than GTA V, and a lot of that is down to draw distance.

I ****ing hate the new GTAs tbh. The environments are actually too detailed and become more annoying than anything.

I liked IV, it stuck to one variety and did it well (Urban).

GTA V map felt hollow and plastic and uninteresting, despite all the easter eggs. It was so nothing. A plastic empty uninteractive city, a shitty desert area, and a boring ass forest, and there was no excuse for it given the technical advantages. Had nothing on the GTA III era or the highly maligned IV.

GTA IV killed the series for me. I can't think of a game where I hated every single character more. Nico was boring as ****.

GTA 3 was special, it broke some new ground. Vice city was a great follow up. I enjoyed san andreas but every one since hasn't interested me.

Actually I have found a game that has worse characters than GTA V. I nominate final fantasy 13 as having without a doubt, the WORST characters in the history of gaming. Vanille and Hope quite literally made me so angry I stopped playing the game all together.

Come to think of it, the game sucked anyway.

I had fun with GTA V, but I can't see myself ever playing through it again like I have with the GTA III era games.

Even IV and TLAD got a second play through with me, but don't think I ever will with V unless I pick up the Xbox One version on the cheap, like, a fiver.
