Hey where's Magpiespower been lately? I've missed his CYE Northern Suburbs Edition stories ITT.

I hope he hasn't fallen victim to foul play in the spoon bequeathal saga.
Exactly. It is his duty to entertain us in the off. He is bloody lucky Port football is back.

Having said that I really hope he is just busy negotiating his book deal.

Or you will have to take over his musings about the public transport system in the northern burbs and Lizbeff shops

When Simon Black turned 23 I remember reading a couple of stories about his medal collection, 3 premiership medals, 2 B&F's, a brownlow, and a norm smith medal and if anyone else had achieved more. Last night I found a picture of a bloke who had won so many trophies by the time he was 23, and then unlike Black continued racking them up year after year. When I lived in Canada I saw this picture of the great Ice Hockey player Bobby Orr many times. He was a defender but won scoring trophies as well as everything else when he played with Boston Bruins.

Bobby Orr of the Boston Bruins with the hardware he had accrued by the age of 23. The trophies are the Stanley Cup (which his team would win twice) the Prince of Wales Trophy (won three times by the Bruins), the Calder Trophy (rookie of the year), the Norris Trophy (best defenseman; won eight times), the Art Ross Trophy (NHL scoring champion; twice), Conn Smythe Trophy (playoff MVP; twice), and the Hart Trophy (NHL MVP; three times).

Penalty rates cut, The Liberal Party really hate working class and low income people

Getting paid twice as much to work on a Sunday is and always has been a stupid idea. If you don't want to work on a Sunday, go work in an industry that doesn't do most of it's business on weekends.

Bobby Orr what?

Most places work on Sundays, especially in retail, hospitality and tourism. This adversely affects people who are already the lowest paid in the country.

I work in an industry where I get double time on a Sunday, it makes a huge difference as to whether I can afford rent and bills.

In a consumer driven economy this will come back to bite the retail sector as the average Joe has less money to spend on goods and services.

Cue 2 years time and Gerry Harvey whinging about a further drop in business and blanket blaming it on the dreaded Internet and calling for bigger taxes on online businesses.

Yes terrible. Now more businesses will open or open longer on Sundays. I mean it's not like SA has the highest mainland state unemployment or anything :drunk:

Good move out of the 1950's. It's a 24/7 world, penalty rates were/are an anachronistic relic of a bygone era, up there with white picket fences and barring groups from jobs based on -isms.

....Sunday pay rates for full-time and part-time hospitality workers will be cut from 175 per cent of their standard wage to 150 per cent. In retail, Sunday wages will be reduced from 200 per cent of the standard rate to 150 per cent for full-time and part-time staff.

For fast food workers, Sunday pay for some full-time and part-time employees — classed as "level one" workers — will be cut from 150 per cent to 125 per cent. Casual workers in retail and fast food will also see their pay cut but rates for casuals in hospitality will remain the same.

The commission reviewed Saturday rates but decided against any reductions....

And I bet you get some weekdays off. What difference does it make?? Some industries are busiest on weekends. That is the nature of it. If you don't like it, go do something else. Getting paid $50 an hour to pour a beer is demented.

yeah ok dude, just go do something else, especially here in South Australia, I guess I'll just put on my job helmet, squeeze down into a job cannon and fire off into Jobland, where jobs grow on jobbies

I found this statue outside TD Garden in Boston, my Canadian friend says it's from the 1970 Stanley Cup

I'm conflicted with this. We have a very high munimum wage that means they arent necessarrily needed and the changes in society and work culture means there really isn't such a thing as weekends (or work hours) anymore.

On the flip side, a better share of profits to the workers is always desiarable.

One of the funnier sentences I have read for a while.
