Business growth is not measured by number of employees. I am not sure where you got that from. The key metrics are revenue and profit. Actually, revenue and/or profit per FTE is a key metric for efficiency, the higher the better. Similar to return on assets, return on capital, etc.You seem to have a very narrow view of what a business is and why it employs people.
For most businesses, growth is associated with increased number of employees.
Ergo: if you want to grow (and make more profit) you will have to employ more people.
