It will open uour mind to many difforent subjects and perspectives.

Portia did make some great points about blokes not knowing much about footy in that post you only have to read a game day thread to know that.

We all got educated that day and for some of us neanderthals the education continues through people like Portia and the more educated and evolved posters amongst us. Even our resident 12 year old is socially aware and knows his stuff and the difference between what is a joke and what is offensive to potential readers of what we all post on a daily (or in feels case every few moments) basis. I can't claim to take the moral high ground on any issues as many of us can't, wont or don't, but I would like to think when I get it wrong I'll cop it sweet. I'm not pointing the finger at anyone I just think we are all better (or if not slightly better educated on trans issues) people than we were on that day in April 2012. And that is thanks to one person having the courage to do what she did. I would hate to lose her over what happened today. We as a board would be poorer for it. Those podcasts (no offence Macca19 and FishingRick04 ) certainly won't be as good.

I agree with all of this but... it's also what disappoints me most. There seems to be a focus on the negative, which IMO is in the minority. When the reality is, in this online community, the BF Port Board, the acceptance of Portia is overwhelmingly positive.

I read the original post the day it was posted and shifted my thinking of Porthos to Portia without so much as a blink. It gave me an insight into a life experience that I hadn't really ever considered. It's broadened my thinking and from what I see posted here, the majority have experienced the same.

For those not familiar with The Merchant of Venice, I highly recommend reading up on the character that Portia took her name from. It gives you an insight into her deliberate and complex intellect.

It would be a significant loss for our community to lose her voice, her insight and her humour.
I just wish she would focus on how much positive impact she has had on us mere mortals.
