I must admit I assumed Essendon supporters could read, my apologies. ;)

I said I used to almost look away, almost being the key word. RoJo turned the ball over, but no more so than the average AFL player. I dare say I've been to and watched more Eagles games than you have.

I have watched a ton of Eagles games, and RoJo is the only man I know that can only kick a football as high as he can far. The number of times he just booted a useless hail mary rain maker into the forward line was criminal. So, so many turn overs from that alone, not forgetting the number of times he tried to handpass, got confused and just shovelled it to however was closest: team-mate or opposition, or the inevitable caught holding the ball........

I think the fact that he couldn't get a game when he was vice-captain (2005 IIRC) speaks volumes. It was almost like they played him the following 2 season out of pity to make up for it.

I'm very sorry to say that unfortunately that's probably untrue. Living in the west, I get to see every eagles game.. even the crap ones, which is any game they win.

In 2005 our midfield consisted of Judd, Cousins, Kerr, Stengalein, Embley, Fletcher, Braun, Butler, etc etc. While some of those players are gone and some are horribly out of form, they were all playing well in 2005. I don't think struggling to get a game in that midfield is anything to be ashamed of. Thats like saying players like Prismal are useless cause they can't get a game in the Geelong side this year.

I have never argued that RoJo had poor disposals skills, especially his kicking. However he played with his heart on his sleeve, played the role asked of him and always gave 110% percent. I say again, the outcome of the 2006 GF could have been different if not for RoJo. One effort doesn't make a player, however I think that typifies the way RoJo played and what he brought to the Eagles.

I've been to or watched just about every Eagles game since I can remember. If you do actually watch the games even if you are trolling I'm sure you can admit that while he isn't a brilliant player RoJo atleast played hard and with passion and often did what the team needed of him.

No I'm not trolling, its genuinely how I feel about it.

Playing hard and with passion doesn't really count for much if you're crap. If what the team needed of him was to give it to the opposition at every opportunity then yeah he did it well. Kudos.

It amazes me how every eagles supporter mate of mine used to hang so much shit on "RoJo" when he was playing - they hated him. As soon as he retires he becomes some sort of hero.

Don't get confused. Hey I used to hang shit on RoJo all the time. I never said he was a hero, however his actions in the 2006 GF were heroic. I disagree with you, I think playing with passion and heart does count even if you're 'crap'. I don't think RoJo as useless as many people make out to be. He was an below average for AFL standard in terms of skill but he played his part and its all good. I personally have forgiven his turnovers thanks to his efforts in bringing the cup back to perth in 2006. :thumbsu:

You should get a kick out of the next few WC seasons then :)

When did the cup ever go to Perth? I wasn't under the impression Perth had an AFL side. I know Fremantle does and the West Coastline of WA does, but who is this Perth team you speak of?

Its all good mate. All teams have their good times and their bad times. If we have to struggle for a few seasons before we climb back up again so be it. If the teams plays with heart and passion can't really ask for much more.

Eagles never had an imposing forward structure, a lot of goals seemed to come directly out of the midfield. Thus Judd/Cousins is a really big loss.

Plus the fact the Embley is ill (is it glandular?).

Poor old big Lynch just doesn't cut it up forward without the midfield magic around him.

This from someone whose team changed their name to The Kangaroos in preparation for a move to Canberra

That was never the intention of the club. The AFL and media may have shaped it that way, but as a member, I know what the club was actually trying to do - we were merely trying to establish a secondary supporter base for cash to keep the club alive.

What an embarassment of a thread.:o
Why? Because it points out the flawed logic of your side? Re-building while you still have 17 of your best 22 in a premiership year is a pathetic excuse for, "We needed 2 blokes to carry us."
You take the best 2 players out of any premiership team from the last 10 years and they wouldnt win the flag.
Pick any 2 from- Black, Voss, Aker, Brown, Lappin and I guarantee you they would still have won a flag.

3 rounds in and we are 'rebuilding' are we? Maybe that's how Essendon do things, but we have a hard start, wait until the mid of the season and then comment, oh also injuries arent helping either. :o

c) changing your *cough*drug*cough* culture can have a negative effect on on-field performance.

Look, clearly i could not give a shit about the Eagles, but this argument really intrigues me, are you seriously suggesting that ingesting meth amphetamine, a dangerously physically debilitating drug actually made these players play BETTER football?

Is anyone actually convinced that taking a drug that keeps you up all night, abusing and neglecting your body and likely making you see little blue men not giving you super speed or stamina, actually helped wce to win a premiership?

I really hope not because i try to believe in the common sense of most people and this would suggest a deep deep stupidity that would shake me to my foundations. I suspect that most people know the truth but avoid it because it does not make for a good way to hang shit on eagles supporters.

Ben Cousins was a champion despite his drug problem, quite a feat, lucky for the rest of us he was a druggie, god knows what he would have been capable of if he wasn't.
