A question for those who can stop celebrating for two seconds

Who will be Bower's replacement???

We have supporters who are ex roys/melbourne based supporeters, supporters who are brisbane based suppoters that also lost their club as well (that has seem to be forgotten) and suppoters like me - ones that are brisbane lions fans not tied to either history and are enjoying seeying the Brisbane Lions create their own history. The trick is to unify all of them!

Who can be our right man for the job?

I would really love Micky Conlan, but basically the main thing I want is someone who will listen to us!

Under Bowers our voices are been largely ignored. Not a way to improve membership in a club that has the lowest by treating members and supporters with contempt.

I would love better membership packages for the Melbourne and Interstate members. The fact that the interstate members have no voting rights is a joke.

Getting Andrew Ireland back would be wonderful, but he seems happy at Sydney.

Micky C would be amazing not just on an emotional level, but also a business level. He's got a very impressive CV.

vote 1 Mickey C

it is a joke danni....we support the boys just as much as any Melbourne or Brisbane fans and we will like to be treated like everyone else.

Absolutely! All members should have voting rights. If you pour money in the club, you deserve a say.

Within limits. Those 60 dollar armchair memberships for example, don't, and shouldn't have voting rights.

Otherwise someone can spend 6000 dollars, buy 100 memberships and elect themself to the board.

$60.00 for nothing though...not worth the paper the newsletter its printed on

I may as well put 60.00 in the bin....thats what its worth in reality

and its what you and the club think we are worth...NOTHING

6000 dollars, buy 100 memberships
if I had that kind of money i would spend it going over to Melbourne/Brisbane to see the boys more than once a year....and I bet 99.99% of us would do the same

That's a bit unfair. TBD's point is valid, and was hardly designed to express any ill will toward members outside QLD. Plenty of armchair members in Qld.

yeah and that get stuff all but who cares......they dont come to the game every week so they dont count hey?

he basically said we shouldt get a say because we dont pay enough to be a REAL member

Whoa, I didn't say that. I had an armchair membership myself when I lived overseas. I got a hat, season review book and other stuff so it wasn't a ripoff. Maybe it's changed, I don't know. The main reason was so that I'd stay on the priority list for full membership when I moved back home.

All I am saying is there has to be a line drawn somewhere. I think ticketed memberships has to be it, or at least offer a more advanced supporter's membership for those who are out of Victoria/Brisbane who want full voting rights.

Not sure how other clubs go about it.

well if its allright for the 15 other clubs then why not for the lions

how much you pay for your membership should be the measuring stick for how much we are worth

Do we know for a fact that every other club gives voting rights with their most basic, non ticketed membership?

how much you pay for your membership should be the measuring stick for how much we are worth

In an ideal world, yes, but unfortunately that's not how it works at the highest level. I'd love to enjoy the hospitality and pre-match functions of those prestige Coach's Club memberships, but I can't justify the coin to get one of those memberships. It's just how it works. Even football clubs are caste societies.

Well, in reality, under the old Bowers regime, none of us had a say. None of our voices were counted.

I would like something put in place where we are not just a number anymore. And I do think that whether you're in Brisbane or Melbourne, Perth or Adelaide, you should have the right to express thoughts on how the club is going... and more importantly, have those thoughts taken on board... not dismissed.

A lot of the other clubs offer that. Essendon doesn't approve of anything unless 70% of the members agree... that includes the interstaters.

Mickey Conlan is my No.1, followed by Gary Pert. Both have fantastic CV's, but Conlan gets my vote. I could be wrong, but it is not inconcievable that we could obtain Conlan considering he threw his hat in the ring for the Melbourne position, so he must have career aspirations to be a CEO of an AFL club and what better than the club he is a life member of.

And from what I understand, he is very supportive of the merger and personally I think he has a lot to offer our club in both the Qld and Vic markets.

Mate, for the first time I gotta disagree with you, strongly. In fact ,that is an insulting load of shit.

I live in north Queensland. I cannot afford to buy a full membership with tickets to games I will never get to. So I pay a $60 membership & through that I buy tickets to the 2 or 3 games a year I can attend. It does not diminish my support for the club, or the validity of my opinion on who should have the reins.

As to the 1000 memberships & buy a board position - what a load. I person - 1 membership ( or are you suggesting filling the application out of the phone book).

Richmond members on the same package have full rights. Take out the price of your admission & you pay no more than me - so don't look down your nose at me. OK? I was coming down to the last Agm, but was advised by the club that due to the category of my membership I would be denied membership. So you would rather keep it an old boys club with just a few of you 'elite' allowed? yeah?

Speaking as someone who was shouting at Tony Kelly from across the room last AGM, I agree with this entirely.

Early signs with Angus are more promising.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Micky Conlan.

The guy is very cluey when it comes to business, you don't make CEO of Reebok if you are a hack. He knows football club culture, and he knows Lions culture.

No, it's saying that the value attached to a voting membership is one way of stopping dodgy bastards rigging the system to take power and hold onto it. It's not knocking those that have no intention of doing the wrong thing, but highlighting that it would be an open invitation to those that might.

That said, The club has to make money, and what are you going to give people for $60 that doesn't put the club in the red? Of course, you don't shaft them, but you have to give them something that gives some feeling of connection, but doesn't put you in the red in the process.

If anything, an armchair voters membership should be introduced. Something that allows anyone that wants those rights, but cannot attend games, to buy into the clubs administrative process at an increased price.

you can go there because you live in brisbane...I dont have the money or the abiltiy to get time off work to fly interstate every week to watch the boys. Do you know how much it hurts inside knowing I cant support the boys more often then I do? To watch them train, to see them after the game or at family or supporter days? to offer being a voluteer at the club? To go to the AGM and do everything that a brisbane based supporter takes for granted?

So I do what I can, supporter the boys every adelaide game and buy a membership every year that worth nothing

couldnt agree - like you im sick of being nosed at because I pay less than some people and are not able to see the boys every week! I do what I can

I dont think I could be more insulted even if they tried

on a side note, doesnt micky conlan have a son who is a good young footballer? i would be thinking he might be 16 or 17 years old?
