The road ahead.

on their form tonight it looks unlikely to register another win. getting sick of watching them be in matches and then get blown out of the water. Pathetic tonight in a game we should have won. a long road ahead

Just awful. Not a hope in hell of winning another game. Bryce Gibbs may as well start looking for a house in Essendon

I don't see Carlton winning another game, so Round 16 will decide the spoon. But surely we'll win a game or two somewhere.

Not worried about the spoon yet.

stuff it i say i want the spoon its not like we're gonna get anything better out of this year besides the 1st pick and priority

this hurts. an insipid performance. if we put enough effort in throughout the year, we might win a game or two which we dont expect to win to get us off the bottom. for the first time in my life, tonight i have wondered perhaps we are the worst team in the comp ? i would never suggest playing for draft picks, but at this stage, we are playing bad enough to get them anyway.

The Essendon football club have got issues and they need to sit down and asses the problem.

Tonight's game was pathectic indeed,
couldn't wait for the siren to go so I could go home...
(I never walk out untill the game is over).

Wont this season end already?!

lol

Oh for God's sake, we're not going to finish 1-21, that's ridiculous.

We'll be better after the week off, and win a few games in the second half of the season. We know we can play better than tonight because we have done this year.

and no PP's either :thumbsd: :o

As a Carlton supporter I am dirty on this as we really need access to top of the top 4 or 5 kids in the country.

I am also certain that most Ess. supporters would be angry at the fact that when their turn comes to bottom out, their team could potentially deprived of picking up the same after watching years of other teams such as St. Kilda benefitting from the old rule.

True, but this will be Sheedy's worst year after last year was his previous worst.

1-21! That would be funny. Six years after 21-1 :D

And our real hidings have yet to come.

We'll go VERY close to that...old habits are dying hard, second half fade outs...lacklustre second efforts. Most dont appear to want to be out there right now. Theyve lost their mental toughness when the oppoisiton gets a few consecutive goals on the board.
Not to mention, our spine looks as fragile as ever and our flanks arent taking on our opposition..reason being..they're afraid of failure.

It's easy to go over-the-top after a poor effort like last night. The reality is we can play much better and we have done in most games this year.

I think you'll find the weeks break will help our team more than most. After the break, we get Hird, Lovett and Campo back, the team will sit down have a few in-depth discussions and a few home truths so to speak, and we will come out and have a better second-half to the season, winning 4 or 5 games, and causing a couple of upsets.

What was most dissapointing about last night was there was no effort around the ground. No one prepared to run. At one stage we had 12 (yes 12) players in the centre square watching port run it along the wing. No heart, pathetic effort.

Look, if we beat Carlton it will be an upset. And I don't factor Hird into any argument. He is not the future. And Campo? His inclusion will turn the side around will it? Saying our second half will be better than the 1-10 for the first half isn't saying much.

Your optimism is misplaced. We may win a few games, but as a club, we still have a lot of pain to endure. It wouldn't surprise me if we don't play finals for 3-4 years.

We'll win a couple of games down the line, some of you are speaking in the heat of the moment and need abit of perspective.

Even Carlton won a few games last year.

14 wins from our last 45 games, with tough games ahead, is not "heat of the moment". Less than 1 win from every 4 games.

We have been down for two years and it will continue.

You're going way over-the-top and reacting to the immediate past. I know your type. There's one or two in every group.

Teams can turn it around quickly. Within a year. A year is an eternity. Two years is forever. Teams have gone from bottom to top in two years. Sydeny went from last in '94 to minor-premiers in '96. Brisbane went from last in '98 to the PF in '99. Melbourne went from last in '97 to the PF in '98. Then they had 5 wins in '99 and played in the GF in '00! Bulldogs went from 15th in '96 to the PF in '97. Adelaide form 12th in '96 to a flag in '97.

And Hird may not be the future but he is still the present and he will help the side in the secind half of the season. So will Campo and Lovett when they come back in THIS year.

Anything could happen in '07. We could stay at the bottom, or we could make some drastic changes and charge up the ladder again, like has happend to many, many teams over the years.

Please, do NOT tell me that you ladder predictions are always right. Let alone predicting for next year which is impossible. It's hard enough getting my tips right for next week. Your predictions aren't right. No one gets it right. Hell, Collingwood could win the flag after going 5-17 last year and we finished higher than them last year.

Anything can happen.

good post :thumbsu: to often do i hear ppl jumping to the gun as i said on another thread should i start the 'collingwood to win flag' thread.. early days we will upset a few as they all think we are the worst.. were not... but look on the brightside we were not flag favorites like the cats lol

Umm all he said was it wouldn't surprise him if we didnt make the finals in the next 3-4 years. If you're a realist, given the form we've shown this year, it isn't a very outrageous claim at all. Ok maybe 3-4 yrs is a little wild and its true no one can predict that far ahead but if you are expecting us to charge up the ladder any time soon you might want to reassess.
