This is so important for us with the long term injuries to Biglands and Hentschel so we have to be careful with who we pick.

Surely we will be picking players who could be capable of stepping into AFL in 07. We are effectively picking 2 more list players, but who do we pick?

I would be suprised if we picked a Bonnadio/Griffen development type player as we cannot afford to have guys just train with us for the year.

What players are out there who may not be picked up in the draft but would be able to step up to AFL next season?

Cambell, is he the one from North?

Not sure about Twomey, I was keen on him earlier but his last few performances have not been that good. When he makes a contest he seems to do alright but his positioning seems to be all over the shop, doesnt seem to make enough contests.

Could be a smokey though.

A bit of both really. We'll probably pick 1 to 2 ready to go players - as long as we can identify ones of likely AFL standard, as well as 2 to 3 players for the future

Do we look at adding an extra rookie and limiting the number of player we have on the AFL veterans list? Picking up a 5th rookie maybe something the club would consider and only placing Mark Ricciuto on the AFL veterans list?

I am with you RBG; we should be picking 2 rookies that are basically ready to go from the beginning of the NAB cup (if needed)

I wonder if Justin Westoff would last until a rookie listing. I highly doubt that he will so he would be a preference anywhere from round 3.

Yeah I'm not sold on Twomey.

Campbell is the one from North.

Would like to see this rookie list:

Matthew Campbell
Bryce Campbell
Gavin Hughes
Andrew Mcintyre

Nathan Twomey?
Gavin Hughes?

Yes sir :thumbsu: both boys are good picks

I will go nuts if we draft any of the following:

• Bryce Campbell
• Gavin Hughes
• Justin Westhoff
• Adam Cockshell

Campbell has drawn plenty of interest from 2 clubs though, so if we're going to draft him, it will have to be in the National Draft. Hughes will probably slip through, but its touch and go. Westhoff and Cockshell, two tall forwards, will probably be available in the PSD.

Ellis looks good and I like Campbell.
Has Craig Parry been on an AFL list. Is he eligible as a mature rookie. Good insurance if any more ruckmen are injured. I know we will be going with Hudson, MAric and Meeson with Griffin still a project player but do we need "insurance".

Parry hasn't been on AFL list but there are a couple of problems here. He is only 194 cm which in AFL terms is REALLY short for a ruckman. Yes I know Jeff White is only 195 cm but he is an athletic freak and makes up for his lack of height with an exceptional leap.

Secondly, Parry doesn't really provide us with too much insurance because he is more in experienced than Maric and Hudson in AFL terms and he would certainly be behind Hudson, Maric and Meesen if he was on the list.

If we cop that many injuries to our rucks, then it would be a bit freaky and footy gods would definetly be against us :p

The word is that each year about 60-70 players are taken ....this year the expectation is closer to 85-90.

The prediction is that this will impact on the quality of the rookie draft......my opinion is that all eyes will be on the main draft this year and Adelaide can make some good local rookie selections :thumbsu:

Remember it was the last super draft that we did so well in the rookie draft as well.

Ellis would be a waste of time. Only plays a handful of games each year due to injury and has a poor attitude. Played for South because they offered the most money.

Should they not get picked in the proper draft, I like the look of Alwyn Davey, Zac Hier, Nick Salter and Nick Gill as rookie list options.

Another to look out for in the future is Jared Petrenko. Only 15 or 16 years old and will play for Eagles reserves on Sunday at Adelaide Oval. Partly Aboriginal he is lightning quick and has excellent skills. A future Mc.... no, I won't say it.

I forgot another player... add the tall Westhoff from Central.

Ryan Fitzgerald board. This kid has talent, no doubt, but he is skinnier than Griffen. I don't think there is any recyclable tall timber in the SANFL. Even Nick Gill, who I consider one of the best talls in the competition, wouldn't make it at AFL level. No more Adam Richardsons please.

Anyone that has seen Parry would know that his leap is as good as any ruckman going around. His lack of height is not as issue because he makes up for it with his leap.

He is a good bloke too. I deal with him at work.

So thats the reason he was overlooked by is for a rookie list a couple of years ago when he was the best ruckman in the SANFL ;)

Ellis is a definite no-goer.

I have money on Parry for the Magery but he won't make the grade at AFL level - he's a bit like Brett Chalmers in that regard.

I havn't seen enough SANFL to comment really.

In Neil and James we trust.

If Parry was say 198cm he would be a machine. For his height he would be the strongest bloke in the SANFL and is hardly ever beaten in taps and gets a lot around the ground...well built and aggressive....he could compete at AFL, and would beat the weaker rucks but would get beaten by the elite Dean Cox and Brendon Lade etc etc. And god he is SLOW. I rate him highly but yer....prolly not quite what we are after so a no from me.

Westhoff is someone who I rate highly, he can be built up, as it is he does some remarkable things, strong marks, lot of pace and very mobile, can turn on a 1 cent coin. Get that man to West Lakes ASAP.

All others mentioned in this thread are worth a look, especially the pacy two...Davey and Campbell.

.
I agree there's a lot to like IF he can put on weight.

So far the games I've seen he's used mostly his fantastic agility to lose opponents......I haven't seen him leap and take that strong mark......what's your opinion in this area??

I was impressed with Rhys Archard the other day.

What do others think of this boy - and are there any details about him.

He might be able to slip straight into AFL football from what I have seen.

From left field can I throw some names at you of players who have shown me something at SANFL level this year when I have watched the odd game or two.

Roury Kirby - Glenelg

Ben Warren - South

Clint Alleway - North

Rookie Draft -some questions

Are clubs able to take a player off their list and place him onto the rookie list before the draft occurs (eg gibson)?

How many rookies will Adelaide be able to have this year, given it has two players classed as veterans? Is it four?

Can we have one mature rookie this year - who is over 23? Did that proposed rule go through?
