So we currently have..

Sandilands - A great but only has 1, maybe 2 years max left.
Clarke - Has some talent but often looks lame and disinterested, may be on the move anyway.
Griffin - Has been pretty serviceable backup over the years but is a slowing dinosaur.
Hannath - Another bigger dinosaur that's near certain to get de-listed.
Apeness - Shown promise as a forward/back up ruck.

No doubt they will draft a young one somewhere in the ND this year, but will they also look to trade in someone in or even a mature age pick up? It's a bit of a concern.

I hope they try and turn Apeness into a ruckmen ala Tom Boyd cant see him ever quite delivering enough as a key forward but the way he contests he might just make a very good ruckmen. These real big guys like Cloke and Hawkins etc and him seem to be struggling some what due their size lack of mobility in the modern game.

Sandi/Ape partnership for a year or two while we hopefully pick up 1/2 in the draft and trade a Leunberger/Sinclair/Naismith type in. Reckon ruck is probably the most dispensable position in the AFL atm. You either get lucky and have a Sandi/Nic Nac/Gawn or you have a guy that can make a decent contest and go with that.

Jeez our ruck stocks are grim. Would be fantastic if we somehow can nab Lobb. It doesn't look likely but we really need to do something in this off season.

Glad someone posted this. IMO this is our next greatest problem area outside of our forward line.

Eagles might be without a couple of rucks in the short term, but we're looking shot for a very long time.

I think Cam's in the bag, forget Hill and throw the kitchen sink at Lobb to get him home.

Apeness needs a full preseason and 30+ games under his belt before we start judging him. His fitness is terrible. He is a good contested marker, his kicking seems hit and miss because he doesn't seem very settled. Way to early to tell anything yet.

However I think he has potential to be a good crash and bash ruck like Mumford. Competes hard, loves to hurt, gives plenty of 2nd efforts.

Sandi as the main ruck hopefully for 2 more seasons. Apeness gets to improve his ruck craft under Sandi for 2 years while showing us what he has as a forward. By then we should know.

One of the reasons peel won 4 finals games was Clarke's work in the ruck. Dockers need to offer him a new contract. He may decide to move as there are quire a few clubs chasing ruckman. Sandilands is buying time to develop or trade in one in next two yrs tops

Agree, lobb type is too expensive.

Today he play pretty badly. I will let him go.

This is why I don't want us to trade Pick 3 unless it is for someone like Lobb. If not, we need to get the best ruck/forward available.

Nah I'd be more than happy to give up pick 3 for Lobb and McCarthy. If Hogan doesn’t work out.
I dont think gws need freo pick 3 . After mummy their ruck also not that great.

I don't rate ruck as all that important.

What you need a forward/ruck who can consistently kick 20-30 goals a yr and ruck for 10-30% of the game. And another who simply goes in there and competes for most of the game.

I would never bother paying top dollar or top draft picks for a ruck especially as so many good rucks come late in the draft.

Pick 3 would appear to be overs for him though. Could probably still get him with a pick 7 or 8.

Any chance of converting our pick 3 into a pick 7 and 12 (or thereabouts) deal?
Got to ask gws , gold coast they have the pick.

Lobb's contested marking forward and back is more valuable than his ruckwork.
Would give up pick 3+ for him in a heartbeat.

His ruck work on the weekend was poor, Boyd smashed him. But around the ground Lobb was near bog.

I am glad some one posted this... As i have said, If ckarke leaves, Hannath has to stay as depth.

Still some idiot saints fan has posted if freo get english at pick 3, he will spew

But yeah... Apeness seems promising. It seems its an unwritten rule that all clubs have at least one ruck/forward in the team.
