With two games to go, the battle for the top six is reaching its height with seven teams still able to play finals cricket in the test competition.

Let’s have a look at the seven teams in contention for the finals as well as the remaining sides to see who will finish where after 18 rounds.

The Contenders

1st - Bengal Tigers, Won 11, Lost 5, 227 points

Round 17 vs Queensland (home)
Round 18 vs West Coast Warriors (away)

Bengal have been top for most of the year but their form of late has been a little up and down. They have a reasonable run home facing an out-of-form Queensland at home before heading west to take on the up-and-down Warriors in the final game of the year. The Warriors’ game could prove to be a danger one with the Warriors capable of putting together a cracking game or they could head the opposite way and play a shocker. The last round could very well determine who finishes on top of the ladder and Bengal will want to finish first.

Predicted Finish: 1st

2nd – Allies, Won 10, Lost 5, Drawn 1, 224 points

Round 17 vs Crocodiles (home)
Round 18 vs Baghdad Bombers (home)

The Allies won’t have to travel for the rest of the home and away season with their final two games at home. The pink machine are charging home and go into the last two rounds with some blistering form with the round 17 clash against the Crocs set to be an absolute cracker. The Crocs and the Allies are only separated by a point so both teams are very much in the mix for top spot on the ladder. The loser of that game will likely finish third so it makes the round 17 game all the more important. In the final round, the Allies face the Bombers who are well out of finals contention and should be able to pick up a win.

Predicted Finish: 2nd

3rd – Crocodiles, Won 10, Lost 6, 223 points

Round 17 vs Allies (away)
Round 18 vs Central Chargers (home)

The Crocs’ season will come down to one game, the round 17 clash against the Allies. To have a chance of finishing first, the Crocs simply must win that game against the Allies otherwise they will probably finish third and miss a top two spot. However, achieving that is a lot harder than it sounds. The Allies are in really good form and with home ground advantage and a venomous bowling attack they will be very tough to beat. But, they aren’t invincible and the Crocs will fancy their chances against the pink machine. In the final round, the Crocs face the Chargers back at Croc Park in what could be an important game, the Crocs will either be playing for first or third whilst Central Chargers will be looking to consolidate sixth spot and sneak into the finals series.

Predicted Finish: 3rd

4th – Queensland, Won 9, Lost 7, 206 points

Round 17 vs Bengal Tigers (away)
Round 18 vs Kings Cross Mariners (away)

Queensland face their biggest test in round 17, a tough game against top of the ladder Bengal Tigers. The Canetoads are in no-man’s land a bit at the moment, they sit a game behind the Crocs in third and are almost one game in front of 5th placed Victoria. However, the Vics have a pretty easy run home so Queensland may need two wins to hold down fourth spot. They should beat Kings Cross in the final round but the amount of points they get against the Tigers may end up determining whether they finish 4th or 5th. They also have two away games to finish so things will be made even tougher without being able to rely on home-ground advantage and they will need to be careful they don’t slip right down the ladder.

Predicted Finish: 5th

5th – Victoria, Won 8, Lost 7, Drawn 1, 194 points

Round 17 vs West Coast Warriors (home)
Round 18 vs Inferno Devils (away)

The Vics have the best run home out of the sides in the race for the finals. They face West Coast Warriors at home in round 17 followed by an away game against the Devils in the final round. The game against the Warriors will prove to be a tricky one though with both teams pretty evenly matched. West Coast won the previous fixture at the WACA so the Vics will need to be careful although they will have home-ground advantage here. The Warriors though will be keen to win with their finals hopes on the line and a win could see them enter the six at Victoria’s expense. Round 18 sees Victoria travel to meet the Inferno Devils in an away fixture. Victoria should be able to get up and they will need to win at least one of these two games to make the finals.

Predicted finish: 4th

6th – Central Chargers, Won 8, Lost 7, Drawn 1, 186 points

Round 17 vs Kings Cross Mariners (home)
Round 18 vs Crocodiles (away)

The Chargers enter the last two rounds in good form and won a place in the top six last round. They have a fairly cruisy game in round 17, facing Kings Cross at home before a tough away game against the Crocs in the final fixture. The Chargers must win at least one game to make the finals although they may have to win two if the Warriors can win their final two games as the Chargers are only three points in front of the Warriors outfit. A finals spot may come down to how many points they can pick up against the Crocs in round 18.

Predicted finish: 6th

7th – West Coast Warriors, Won 8, Lost 8, 183 points

Round 17 vs Victoria (away)
Round 18 vs Bengal Tigers (home)

The Warriors face stiff competition for a finals spot with a tough run home. They meet Victoria in round 17, a game which they really need to win given Central Chargers round 17 opponent. Round 18 could be anything, in fact both games could be anything as the Warriors are capable of turning it on or not showing up at all. They’ll be hoping they can turn it on in the last two games and win both to grab a finals spot. If they can win their last two and hope a couple of results go their way, they are still a chance to take 4th but that appears unlikely.

Predicted Finish - 7th

The Rest

8th – Baghdad Bombers, Won 5, Lost 9, Drawn 2, 152 points

Round 17 vs Inferno Devils (home)
Round 18 vs Allies (away)

Baghdad have had a pretty disappointing year so far but they can still finish the season on a high. Round 17 sees them take on the Devils at home and a win here could see them consign the Devils to the wooden spoon. However, they face the red hot Allies outfit in round 18. The Bombers are truly stuck in the middle in terms of their ladder position, they are 31 points behind the Warriors who are 7th and 24 points in front of the 9th placed Kings Cross Mariners outfit so a rise up the ladder would seem unlikely. They should be able to beat the Devils at home but the Allies will be a huge test for them.

Predicted Finish – 8th

9th – Kings Cross Mariners, Won 4, Lost 11, Drawn 1, 128 points

Round 17 vs Central Chargers (away)
Round 18 vs Queensland (home)

The Mariners have had a shocking year but a win last week saw them get off the bottom of the ladder for the first time in a while. Whilst the Mariners can’t play finals they can certainly play spoiler here in the final two games. Round 17 sees them play the Chargers who need to win to make sure they hold onto sixth place. A win to the Mariners could see the Chargers drop out of the top six and maybe out of finals contention. Round 18 is a home game against Queensland who’s form has been rather ordinary of late. Queensland will be looking for a win to consolidate a 4th or 5th place finish so Kings Cross could be a potential danger side for them. The Mariners will simply be looking to finish the test year off with something to cheer about.

Predicted Finish – 9th

10th – Inferno Devils, Won 4, Lost 12, 123 points

Round 17 vs Baghdad Bombers (away)
Round 18 vs Victoria (home)

The Devils have had a terrible year and now sit last on the ladder after avoiding that feat for most of the season. Their best chance to get off the bottom is in round 17 when they face fellow struggler Baghdad Bombers at Abdu Prison. The Devils won’t enter the game with much form but they will still have a chance at winning with the Bombers also having a fairly lean year. Round 18 sees the Devils host Victoria at Hell’s Kitchen. The Vics will be looking to finish with a win and perhaps take them up the ladder but the Devils can play spoiler and try and avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.

There we have it, two rounds to go and still plenty of cricket left. The last two rounds should be crackers with plenty of crunch games and potential crunch games in there. We might even have a surprise or two left in the season.

Great stuff ljp :thumbsu:

I agree with pretty much everything there. Although you said if the Crocs lose this week they will be playing for 3rd in the last round. That won't be the case if we lose to Queensland..

Crocs could lose their last 2 and still climb up to 2nd. Its so close at the top that bonus points could decide the final standings in the top 3.

Top 4 have been in a league of their own all season. Last time the Crocs faced the Allies it was probably the test of the year, came right down to the wire. I expect this test to be no different.

Big call. Our last match saw the Vics recover from 8/270 chasing 410 in the last innings to lose by 4 runs in the end.

And our last game against the Allies I think we were 9 down needing about 20 to win, then we were 2 runs behind for around 10 maidens in a row before we finally hit the winning runs.

And I'm sure there would have been other very good games as well.

didnt take long for you to come back ehy?
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken:
The crownless again shall be king.

Well, Round 17 saw some interesting results which have certainly shaken up the ladder a bit. Let’s have a look at the final round.

1st – Bengal Tigers, Played 17, Won 12, Lost 5, 245 points

Round 18 Opponent: West Coast Warriors (away)

Highest Possible Finish: 1st
Required Scenario: Bengal Tigers win

Bengal Tigers can finish top of the ladder if they beat West Coast Warriors regardless of who else wins. They could even finish top if they can only draw with the Warriors and gain enough bonus points to hold off the chasers even if they win.

Lowest Possible Finish: 3rd
Required Scenario: Bengal’s lowest possible finish is 3rd. For this to happen they would have to lose to West Coast Warriors with the Allies and Crocodiles both winning. The Allies would have to score an equal amount of bonus points as the Tigers and the Crocs would need to score two more bonus points than the Tigers in order for the Bengal side to finish third.

Predicted Finish: 1st

Hard to see Bengal losing to the Warriors with their strong efforts over the entire course of the season. However, with the Warriors defeating Victoria at the G last round, they won’t roll over and home ground advantage here will give them a sniff of causing an upset.

2nd – Allies, Played 17, Won 10, Lost 5, Drawn 2, 232 points

Round 18 Opponent: Baghdad Bombers (home)

Highest Possible Finish: 1st
Required Scenario: Allies win and score an equal amunt of bonus points as the Tigers, Bengal Tigers lose, Crocodiles lose or win but only gain one more point than the Allies.

The draw against the Crocs has really hurt the Allies chances of finishing first. They must hope that the Warriors beat Bengal and the Allies win themselves to have any hope. They will also be wary of the Crocs who are only two points behind.

Lowest Possible Finish: 3rd
Required Scenario: Allies lose, Crocs win or draw and score no less than one bonus point fewer than the Allies

The Pink Machine could still slip to third if they lose and the Crocs win. The Crocs could also draw with Central Chargers and still take second off the Allies provided the Allies don’t win against the Bombers.

Predicted Finish: 2nd

Can’t see the Allies losing to the Bombers, they had the upper hand against the Crocs last week but couldn’t quite finish them off. They should be able to finish second as the Crocs face a tricky fixture against the Chargers.

3rd – Crocodiles, Won 10, Lost 6, Drawn 1, 230 points

Round 18 Opponent: Central Chargers (home)

Highest Possible Finish: 1st
Required Scenario: Crocs win and score at least two more bonus points than the Tigers, Bengal Tigers lose, Allies lose or Allies draw or Allies win but score three fewer points than the Crocs in Round 18.

Lowest Possible Finish: 3rd
Required Scenario: Bengal Tigers win, Allies win, Crocs lose. Alternatively, all three sides could win but the Crocs stay third after not gaining enough points.

Predicted Finish: 3rd

Crocs face a mammoth task to finish first on the ladder and whilst not impossible, it will prove to be very, very difficult. Their best chance is to finish second as outscoring the Allies by three points is possible even if the Allies win. However, with the Allies playing Baghdad, the task is made all the more tricky as the Crocs host the fast finishing Chargers.

4th – Queensland, Won 17, Won 9, Lost 8, 208 Points

Round 18 Opponent: Kings Cross Mariners (away)

Highest Possible Finish: 4th
Required Scenario: Queensland win or Queensland lose and Central Chargers, West Coast Warriors and Victoria all lose.

Win and the Canetoads will finish 4th. They are too far behind to catch the third placed Crocs so 4th is as high as they can go. The Toads, Chargers, Warriors and Vics could all lose and Queensland would finish 4th however that would appear to be unlikely.

Lowest Possible Finish: 7th
Required Scenario: Queensland lose, Central Chargers, West Coast Warriors and Victoria all win.

Queensland could finish 7th if they lose and the three sides below them all win. If they lose to the Mariners they could face a very nervous wait.

Predicted Finish: 4th.

Queensland should beat the Mariners but their shaky form means they are no certainty. The Warriors and Chargers face tough games so they may only have to worry about Victoria who can till overtake them provided the Vics win and Queensland lose.

5th – Central Chargers, Won 9, Lost 7, Drawn 1, 205 points

Round 18 Opponent: Crocodiles (away)

Highest Possible Finish: 4th
Required Scenario: Queensland lose, Chargers win, Warriors lose or win but score no more than three more points than the Chargers in Round 18, Victoria lose or win.

The Chargers can take fourth if they win and Queensland lose. They could also lose and make fourth but that would prove to be very difficult to achieve as the other sides would also have to lose and not score many bonus points.

Lowest Possible Finish: 7th:
Required Scenario: Central Chargers Lose, West Coast Warriors and Victoria both win.

Central Chargers can still finish 7th if the Warriors and Victoria win and they lose. Should they lose to the Crocs, they will also face a nervous wait for the other results to flow in.

Predicted Finish: 6th

Despite their good form, the Chargers probably won’t beat the Crocs and with Victoria playing the bottom-placed Devils in the final round, it’s likely that the Vics will overtake them and the Warriors who face Bengal in Round 18.

6th – West Coast Warriors, Won 9, Lost 8

Round 18 Opponent: Bengal Tigers (home)

Highest Possible Finish: 4th
Required Scenario: Queensland lose, Central Chargers lose, West Coast Warriors win, Victoria lose or win and score no more than four points more than the Warriors.

4th will be tough to achieve but it is still possible if the Warriors can win in the final round. The Chargers face a tough away assignment in Round 18 so 4th is more than possible if both sides above them lose.

Lowest possible Finish: 7th
Required Scenario: West Coast Warriors lose, Victoria win

Unfortunately, West Coast Warriors will be up against it in the final round. With Victoria playing the last-placed Devils and the Warriors facing the Tigers, this seems to be the favoured scenario. The Chargers could also lose as well and still finish ahead of the Warriors due to a better points total.

Predicted Finish: 7th

Everything has been against the Warriors so far in the run home but they will be buoyed over their win against Victoria in the final round and will go into the game against the Tigers with some confidence. Bengal haven’t been on their game for a while so the Warriors are certainly capable of upsetting the ladder leaders if they can play well.

7th – Victoria, Won 8, Lost 8, Drawn 1, 197 points

Round 18 Opponent: Inferno Devils (away)

Highest Possible Finish: 4th
Required Scenario: Victoria win and Queensland, Central Chargers and West Coast Warriors all lose.

Tough ask to finish 4th but they can do it if everyone above them lose.

Lowest Possible Finish: 7th
Required Scenario: Victoria lose or Victoria lose and West Coast Warriors score six less bonus points than Victoria

Victoria will finish 7th if they lose unless the Warriors can outtank Melbourne.

Predicted Finish: 5th

With Victoria playing the bottom side in the final round, they will be favourites to win and they should overtake the Chargers and the Warriors who face teams inside the top three in Round 18. However, lose and Victoria will miss the finals which would be hard to believe after winning the test competition last season.

8th - Baghdad Bombers, Won 6, Lost 9, Drawn 2, 171 points

Round 18 Opponent: Allies (away)

Highest Possible Finish: 8th
Required Scenario: Bombers win

Baghdad will finish 8th if they win, they are too far behind Victoria to overtake them on total points.

Lowest Possible Finish: 8th
Required Scenario: Bombers lose

Baghdad will finish 8th if they lose as they are too far in front of the Mariners and Devils on points to be overtaken.

Predicted Finish: 8th

What could have been? Had they not had those two draws, the Bombers could be challenging for a spot in the six although they would need a few results to go their way. However, they will finish 8th regardless of what happens against the Allies but it will be very hard for them to beat the Pink Machine, particularly at The Killing Fields.

9th – Kings Cross Mariners, Won 4, Lost 12, Drawn 1, 131 points

Round 18 Opponent: Queensland (home)

Highest Possible Finish: 9th
Required Scenario: Mariners win and the Devils lose. Mariners will also finish 9th if they win and the Devils win but score only one point more than the Mariners. The same would apply if both teams lose.

Lowest Possible Finish: 10th
Required Scenario: Mariners lose, Devils win or both the Devils and Mariners lose but the Devils score two points more than the Mariners in Round 18. The same would also apply if both sides win.

Predicted Finish: 9th

A knife edge really. The Mariners have been poor all year and a win against Queensland seems a long way off. But they will take solace in the fact they are at home and are at least a small chance to beat the Canetoads who are limping towards the finals. They should be able to score more points than the Devils but it could go either way.

10th – Inferno Devils, Won 4, Lost 13, 130 points

Round 18 Opponent: Victoria (home)

Highest Possible Finish: 9th
Required Scenario: Devils win and the Mariners lose. Devils will also finish 9th if they win and the Mariners win and score two points more than the Mariners in Round 18. The same would apply if both teams lose.

Lowest Possible Finish: 10th
Required Scenario: Devils lose, Mariners win or both the Devils and Mariners lose but the Devils score only one point more than the Mariners in Round 18. The same would also apply if both sides win.

Predicted Finish: 10th

The Devils have been terrible all year but have managed to avoid last place for most of the season until now. They face Victoria in round 18 who lost to the Warriors despite being favourites so all hope isn't lost for the Devils outfit and they can certainly beat the Vics in an attempt to avoid the wooden spoon.

Rd 18 will probably not get simmed until Monday. But I'll try.

If all in by Friday 8pm then there may be a chance to sim then

(waste of time looking at my sc scores on FF, got 5 donuts. Bloody saints)

Just had a look at all the games then, my predictions have gone awry.

We might actually finish 4th!
