Admin Introduction
S40Mobbs Medal.png

Good evening sweet and welcome to the best and fairest, the biggest award night of the calendar, the one and only Mobbenfuhrer Medal

Named after the creator of this entire thing and the person who is definitely to blame

Mobbs

Who can forget all the way back in September 2001 when the great man said

If I had died, or at least left Bigfooty, then I'd expect nothing less

But not while I'm still here, thanks anyway!

Or when he shortly there after said

Sorry, but I refuse to allow the medal to be named after myself.

Following this of course he then said

On behalf of the Sweet Football Association (applause), our major sponsor Bigfooty (mixed applause, boos, and a repetitive grunting sound from the foyer), I would like to welcome you all the Inaugural Attenborough Award count and presentation.

The time has come for prestige to be given a tangible vessel, ladies and gentlemen.

Let the count begin!

Round 1

Round one and the first ever Sweet FA season opened in a blaze of pyrotechnics. Seven teams took the field to do battle, and only won was to survive.

The Dragons opened the season by downing Team Pump, while Seventh Wonders thrashed hot flag favourites Team Kournikova. Timmy gave the Dingoes a bit of a lesson, and Pagan enjoyed the first bye.

Votes to follow.

Yes that's right back in Season One you could win an Attenborough

1765789581194.png

But not anymore!

Now you can win the Mobbs Medal and tonight someone is going to do just that

So strap yourselves in, charge your glasses, or your phones and lets get into it after these brief acknowledgements

Season 40 couldn't have happened without the work of many people, some of who will be mentioned now.

The sim team of Dingster MWPP and serial_thrilla who every week work through the team sheet changes and run the little program that we're all here for the output from and send me the little votes that make up the bulk of tonight's proceedings

The posting team of Falconista philreich and Wosh who let the rest of us know what happened in the sim on Sunday

and FootyGuy13 who helps out where needed and does the ace graphics for the final round.

Falconista again who has for a few years now run the Ladder and Fixture thread with style and panache

Tonga Bob for collating posting stats and providing weekly updates that the league could use for as it turns out, graphs and lists and perhaps a few other things as well

The committee and the board mods, the people who posted match threads, the people who provided write ups for tonight, the various club Captains and other leaders around the place, too numerous to mention and lastly my poor suffering partner who I have abandoned so I can post this tonight.

Ok that's enough of that, time for the real stuff

Wonders FFC 18.6 (114) defeat Gold City Royals 8.5 (53) at the Colosseum

A new season had dawned on Sweet, and the Royals travelled to the Colosseum hoping to kick off a successful season for the Gold Citizens. Not sure how it eventually panned out for the Gold Citizens (well I do but I won’t spoil the surprise), but after an even first quarter the Wonders put their Roman sandals on whatever a chariot has for an accelerator. Leading by 16 points at half time and 30 at three quarter time before doubling that lead in a ruthless final quarter to win handsomely at home.

BFew had a day out in front of goals kicking six feasting on the service of dogs105 (17 disposals/15 hitouts/2 tackles/1 goal), jezzajay (13 disposals/5 tackles/4 marks/3 goals), HARPSichord (20 disposals/3 marks/1 goal) & ClarkeM (17 disposals/3 marks), while @croweater41 also chipped in with three snags.

Cadsky (15 disposals/5 tackles) was probably best on for the Royals while GreyCrow (12 disposals/8 hitouts/3 tackles/1 goal), Nothing (13 disposals/3 tackles/3 marks) & Membling (15 disposals/4marks/3 tackles) did alright. Brenton Davy was the only multiple goal kicker with a spare (I think that’s two).

Mount Buller Demons 12.8 (80) defeat Baghdad Bombers 7.7 (49) at the Snow Dome

The Bombers went up the Mountain to kick off season 40 hoping for a bright start to the year. But it was the Demons who took a slight lead in the first quarter and kept making it bigger to finish 31 points in the black to win handsomely at home.

Expect Proper Gander to find some votes in this one, having 10 tackles to go with 22 disposals. Rookie tomcruise put in a Top Gun performance (cue audible groans from the audience) in his debut with 24 disposals/8 marks & 3 tackles while other to do well for the hosts were the returning Scythe (20 disposals/13 hitouts/4 tackles), DemonJim (25 disposals/4 marks), Headless (19 disposals/3 marks/1 goal), sante (16 disposals/4 marks/2 tackles) & Gralin (12 disposals/4 tackles/5 frees for) while Yakker & Bluelegs kicked seven goals between them.

JoeldTrafford (16 disposals/8 tackles) should also have a vote to their name while WAbulldog (20 disposals/5 tackles/6 frees for) and Footy Is Good (16 disposals/5 hitouts/6 tackles) will also be in the conversation. Other to impress were tomjoad (27 disposals/5 marks/3 tackles), CursingFijian (27 disposals/7 marks) & The Sultan (15 disposals/2 marks/1 goal), while Grav Raz & DemurePrincess each kicked two goals.

Dragons FFC 13.18 (96) defeat Fighting Furies 12.4 (76) at Ljp86’s Lair

The fuchsia team from the hippodrome arrived at Dragon Island a leaner outfit after demoting 99.96% of their captains from the previous season in the hope of having a fruitful start to season 40 and go one better than their runners up place the previous time around. And after an even first quarter it looked like it was working, leading by two goals heading into the last quarter, before catching an early ferry back to the mainland and allowing the hosts to kick five goals and a thousand points to win handsomely at home.

For the Dragons Pie 4 Life (23 disposals/6 tackles/5 frees for/1 goal) rolled back the clock while Strigoi (27 disposals/9 hitouts/4 tackles/1 goal), freo84 (24 disposals/7 marks/1 goal), Blaze Storm (28 disposals/4 marks), Hatchy1992 (24 disposals/3 marks/3 tackles), Ljp86 (21 disposals/7 marks) & Drizzy (18 disposals/9 marks/1 goal) made hay while @PhenomentalV1 & Lbaddie29 kicked 3 goals each.

On the other hand the best for the Furies were ShaunDuggan (7 goals), Greenery (22 disposals/5 tackles/1 goal), NaturalDisaster (21 disposals/4 tackles/1 goal), Pickitt (19 disposals/6 marks), omgfridge (22 disposals/6 marks), crazywildhorse (19 disposals/6 marks) & James Colorado (18 disposals/5 marks).

Gumbies FFC 15.9 (99) defeat Las Vegas Bears 11.8 (74) at the House of Gumby

The Las Vegans (Spanish for The Vegans) made their way to the House of Gumby for their opening game of the season hoping to come home with the four points after an off season of hibernation. They hadn’t fully woken up though, as the hosts led at each change to win handsomely at home.

Gumby Supercheapgiants (24 disposals/9 tackles/2 goals) was best on ground ably supported by former Mobbs winner GWS Goose (22 disposals/3 tackles/7 frees for), CatToTheFuture (18 disposals/4 marks/1 goal) & Brick Loosener (16 disposals/4 marks/3 tackles), with @Haydatina Physis & cats_09 kicked three goals apiece.

The Bears had quite a few decent performers as well led by Cap (24 disposals/5 tackles/5 frees for/2 goals), Senor M (17 disposals/15 hitouts/3 tackles/2 goals), RonnieRaven (22 disposals/8 marks/1 goal) & Millky95 (15 disposals/4 tackles/4 frees for/1 goal) while Art Vandelay_ kicked three majors. And shout out to spinynorman whose only stat was conceding a free kick to have a Dream Team score of -3!

East Side Hawks 20.13 (133) defeat Roys FFC 7.10 (52) at the Eyrie

The Gorillas were hoping for a big start to season 40 when they took a round one trip to the Eyrie to face the two time defending champions. And after they unfurled their flag before their jubilant crowd we had our third game of the round where scores were level at quarter time. It was all one way traffic from there though as the hosts had a day out – leading by 18 points at half time, 48 at three quarter time and finally 81 points by the time the Rubenesqe lady cleared her throat to win handsomely at home.

The forever young sausageroll had eight tackles to go with 12 disposals, 6 frees for and a goal while Itsmyshow (26 disposals/5 marks/1 goal), Giant Strides (a Michelle), boncer34 (4 goals), Callums_Guns (20 disposals/3 tackles/2 goals), SM (14 disposals/8 marks), larrikin (17 disposals/4 tackles/1 goal) & haydo (3 goals) were all prolific.

Mooch began a big season with six goals to lead all comers ably supported by DERRINALPHIL (14 disposals/7 tackles/9 hitouts), Phar Ace (21 disposals/6 marks), fitzroybowiedog (15 disposals/5 tackles/5 frees for) & Roylion (16 disposals/4 marks) for the Roys.

Ophidian Old Boys 25.18 (168) defeat Coney Island Warriors 14.7 (91) at Spotswood Oval

After many slow starts to seasons, Coney Island had won their round one games for the previous two seasons so were confident heading to Spotswood Oval to face an Ophidian outfit that had for the first season in their existence allowed the Warriors into their home ground without employing security guards and ankle monitors. This put the visitors into a false sense of security as the Old Boys led by lots at every change to… yep, you guessed it, win handsomely at home.

gab213 kicked 8 goals from 14 shots at goal to be one of many hosts to have big games as Braklet (17 disposals/7 tackles/ten (yes 10) frees for/1 goal), thewizardmelon (26 disposals/11 hitouts/1 goal), Over The Post (16 disposals/8 tackles), hammer180 (13 disposals/7 marks/4 goals), manicpie (20 disposals/8 marks), Mrs Turbo (16 disposals/7 marks/3 goals), Harvey Manfrenjensenden (24 disposals/6 marks/1 goal), Tigerturbulance (17 disposals/5 marks/3 tackles), Dingster (15 disposals/4 marks/2 goals), Fleabane (22 disposals/5 marks/1 goal)… hell, they all did well.

The visitors on the other hand were well served by jannissary (25 disposals/5 marks/4 tackles/1 goal), spudmaster (17 disposals/9 tackles/1 goal), pantskyle (24 disposals/7 marks/3 goals), @FootyGuy12 (26 disposals/9 marks), The Filth Wizard (19 disposals/3 tackles/1 goal), Barrybran (20 disposals/6 hitouts), Tonga Bob (3 goals) and ubiquitous226 (17 disposals/14 hitouts/3 tackles/2 goals in a wonderful debut).

The Half Back

Sin City Swamprats 19.13.127 defeat Gold City Royals 18.7.115.

The Royals got out of the blocks fast with a 3 goal lead heading into half time, but fell over the back half of this game. The Swamprats outscored the Royals by 5 goals in the second half to pull away to a comfortable 12 points victory. The Royals really butchered this one, leading by as much as 29 points early in the contest as well as leading for more than 76% of game time. The Rats engine room really got going early in the season, with sportsmaniac89 (21 hitouts, 30 touches, 3 goals, 124 DT), damicky (23 touches, 12 tackles, 2 goals, 122 DT) and MP_ (25 touches, 10 tackles, 1 goal, 111 DT) all putting in very strong performances. SweetD starred from a forward pocket, kicking 3 goals from 6 touches while spearhead TheGoatBaron managed the 2. For the visitors, Cadsky (28 touches, 9 tackles, 111 DT) tried hard all day, Memphis (24 touches, 7 marks, 2 goals) was quality from a flank and Hoop1888 (0 disposals, 0 marks, 0 tackles, 1 free kick against, -3 DT) was horrendous.

3 damicky 2 MP_ 1 sportsmaniac89

Baghdad Bombers 15.19.109 defeat Fighting Furies 10.12.70.

The Bombers started well and opened up a 3 goal lead at quarter time and held firm for the rest of the match. After maintaining that 3 goal advantage at the main break, the Bombers kicked 9 goals to 7 to extend their lead and take home the points. The Bombers were never in doubt in this game, leading for all but 11 minutes of the contest. Their biggest lead of the game came right on the final siren when BLUEALLTHRU slotted his fourth to bury the Furies. BAT (23 touches, 8 marks, 3 tackles and 4 goals, 114 DT) was a clear BOG for mine and was assisted well by DemurePrincess (23 touches, 7 marks, 2 goals and 101 DT) and Grav (5.4 from 9 kicks). For the losers, it was slim picking, but NaturalDisaster could hold his head high with 23 touches, 2 goals and 81 DT. Grockadoc was almost non existent, playing 100% of game time for just 1 handball and 2 DT points. I can’t help but think that if I were still at Full Forward for the Furies, they may have got the job done here.

3 JoeldTrafford 2 BLUEALLTHRU 1 Greenery

Coney Island Warriors 16.2.98 defeated by East Side Hawks 16.12.108

The first of many Half Back Cups this season, the insanely accurate Warriors fell victim to some simhousery for what felt like the millionth time. The game was fairly even from start to finish, as it ebbed and flowed throughout. The first three quarters saw a goal kicked within the first minute, but it was the Hawks that grabbed the lead at quarter time and never relinquished it. Leading by as much as 26 points, the Hawks were in control, despite the ultra efficient Warriors in front of goal. For the Warriors, it was the sublime half back line that carried them throughout, with Dinsdale (23 touches, 6 marks, 3 tackles, 83 DT), TheInjuryFactory (15 touches, 10 marks, 60 DT) and The Half Back (20 touches, 11 marks, 2 tackles, 87 DT) keeping this game as close as it was. For the Hawks, it was a dominant midfield, with Loonerty (29 touches, 6 marks, 2 goals, 102 DT), cats2rise (26 touches, 7 marks, 6 tackles, 101 DT), Callums_Guns (28 touches, 8 marks, 93 DT), TY24 (18 hitouts, 28 touches, 4 tackles, 1 goal, 116 DT), Tarkyn_24 (28 touches, 4 tackles, 1 goal, 94 DT) and sausageroll (22 touches, 7 tackles, 1 goal, 97 DT) all destroying their Warrior counterparts. Biggie also wound back the clock with 21 touches, 6 marks, 5 goals straight and 101 DT points in a near perfect game.

Roys FFC 14.13.97 defeated by Gumbies FFC 15.13.103

The second closest contest of the round, the Gumbies escaped with the choccies in this contest by a mere qoal. A true back and forth, blow for blow game, the largest lead to any side in this contest was a mere 13 points. The Gumbies, through spearhead Hydatina Physis (7 touches, 4.3, 51 DT) snatched the lead with 5 minutes to go and managed to hold on for the remainder of the game. Fred medalist Mooch was fantastic in front of goal, booting 7 goals from 10 touches for the Roys. HinkleysHeroes was also pretty good up forward for the home side with 15 touches, 6 marks, 2 tackles, 2 goals and 78 DT. GWS Goose lead the Gumbies all day as he finished with 32 touches, 4 tackles, 2 goals and 115 DT points. CatToTheFuture lead all comers with 34 touches, 8 marks, 1 goal and 113 DT for the visitors.

Las Vegas Bears 8.4.52 defeated by Dragons FFC 17.12.114

The second Half Back Cup for Round 2 was competed between the Bears and Dragons and this match was very much one sided after quarter time. A 31-all deadlock after 24 minutes was as close as the Bears were going to get throughout this game. The Dragons kicked the first goal of the second quarter through Ligma (1 touch, 1 tackle, 1 goal, 13 DT) and it was all downhill for the Bears from there. The Dragons got out to a 21 point lead at half time, 24 point lead at three quarter time and piled on 6 goals to none in the final 24 minutes to run out 62 point winners. Poor games across the board for the home team, but it was Art Vandelay_ (1 touch, 1 tackle, 1 behind, 8 DT) that stunk the most alongside fellow forward spinynorman (1 touch, 1 mark, 1 behind, 4 DT). Smart thinking from RookiePick who saw what was about the happen and decided to eat a kebab on the bench for the entire game. Super veteran Pie 4 Life (22 touches, 5 tackles, 1 goal, 75 DT) was impressive, alongside Strigoi (10 hitouts, 18 touches, 4 tackles, 1 goal, 80 DT) and Blaze Storm (20 touches, 1 mark, 1 tackle, 1 goal, 64 DT). VandoHawk was spotted half way through the third quarter wandering over to the Bears bench to share a bucket of hot chips with RookiePick.

Ophidian Old Boys 15.8.98 defeated by Wonders FFC 15.10.100

The best game was saved for last here, with the Wonders escaping with a nail biting 2 point win thanks to a late snag to HARPSichord (21 touches, 5 marks, 1 goal, 64 DT). The Wonders lead for all but 5 minutes in the first half, opening up to a 7 point win at quarter time and a 3 point win at the main break. The Old Boys flipped the script in the third quarter, kicking the opening 4 goals to lead by 22 points early doors but it was the back and forth for the remaining 35 minutes that had everyones eyes glued to the qelevision. Just 1 point separated the teams at three quarter time and a mere 2 digits between winning and losing at the final siren. For the home team, they were lead by thewizardmelon (5 hitouts, 23 touches, 1 goal, 88 DT), Fleabane (20 touches, 6 marks, 1 tackle, 1 goal, 81 DT) and Dingster (4 hitouts, 18 touches, tackles, 1 goal, 73 DT). Whilst for the visitors, it was Giant YoYo (24 touches, 8 tackles, 1 goal, 99 DT) and ClarkeM (24 touches, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 82 DT) that lead from the front.

Sin City Swamprats (20.13 133) defeated Wonders FFC (16.10 106) by 27 points.

The Sin City Swamprats got out to a blistering start finding a 42-point lead at the first break and they continued to hold on from there ensuring that a late Wonders charge was no worry and a 27-point win was the result of the match.

sportsmaniac89 (15 hitouts, 23 disposals, 3 goals), tigs2010 (28 disposals, 6 marks, 1.2), and MrsEddieBetts (5 goals) would be key nominees in the discussion for the winning side while dogs105 ‘s (16 hitouts, 21 disposals) ruck craft for the visiting side helped close the margin in the third quarter.

Coney Island Warriors (17.14 116) defeated Gold City Royals (17.9 111) by 5 points.

A forgettable third quarter from the Coney Island Warriors ruined their dominant first half as an eight goal quarter from the Gold City Royals turned comfortable Warrior leads at the first two breaks into a Royal advantage as the final quarter started. To the Warriors credit they found the momentum again, wrestled back the lead, and won by five points to secure their first victory of season 40.

Tonga Bob kicked six goals down one end of the field with Brenton Davy kicking nine goals down the other end. Cadsky (20 disposals, 9 tackles, 2.2) and jannissary (32 disposals, 5 tackles, 1.1) were key contributors to their sides.

3 Cadsky 2 Brenton Davy 1 jannissary

Las Vegas Bears (24.7 151) defeated East Side Hawks (18.11 119) by 32 points.

A high scoring match finished with the Bears achieving their first victory of the season after leading at each of the breaks. Art Vandelay_ was arguably player of the match and contributed highly to the 32 point victory with a nine goal haul whereas it was TY24 (23 hitouts, 30 disposals, 6 tackles, 1.1) who was best for the visiting side. SSSSSS (38 disposals, 8 marks), Cap (19 disposals, 12 tackles, 2 goals), and Tarkyn_24 (31 disposals, 5 tackles, 2 goals) also contributed significantly.

3 Art Vandelay_ 2 Cap 1 TY24

Ophidian Old Boys FFC (20.13 133) were defeated by Roys FFC (24.13 157) by 24 points.

Goals were a constant in the Roys 24 point victory against the Ophidian Old Boys with _Mike_ ‘s seven goals overshadowed by Mooch ‘s eight goals. The Mike x Mooch combo got off the hook and the Old Boys could not stop the tsunami as their 12-point half time lead turned into just nine points at the final break before disappearing completely in the final quarter.

The Old Boys goal kickers were spread across the team with HitTheNailOnTheHead (7 disposals, 5.2), Harvey Manfrenjensenden (18 disposals, 8 marks, 4.1), and Manicpie (23 disposals, 6 marks, 3.1) leading the charge but it was royboy2 (23 disposals, 7 tackles, 4.0) who had the Roys engine room purring.

3 royboy2 2 _Mike_ 1 Cats_R_Cool_4_Ever

Fighting Furies (15.8 98) were defeated by Gumbies FFC (19.11 125) by 27 points.

The Fighting Furies were the only team not to score more than 100 points in round three and it was the Gumbies who ensured that was the case as the visitors lead at every break to have a true team victory by 27 points. There were a number of contributors for the Gumbies but it was GWS Goose who collected 35 disposals and crunched 12 tackles to be their best on ground. The Fighting Furies goal scoring power of ShaunDuggan (5 goals) wasn’t enough to claim their first victory of season 40.

3 GWS Goose 2 Supercheapgiants 1 NaturalDisaster

Mount Buller Demons (17.8 110) defeated Dragons FFC (16.12 108) by 2 points.

A five goal effort from the Mount Buller Demons, Yakker ensured that they were able to scrape over the line against the Dragons FFC on a rarely warm day on the mountain. A massive nine goals from PhenomenalV1 is sure to be the talking point with Ljp86 (25 disposals, 7 marks, 2.1) also trying their heart out to attempt to drag them over the line.

In the end it was moments from Yakker, Gralin (17 disposals, 11 tackles, 1.0), and Proper Gander (15 disposals, 7 tackles, 1.0) that shifted the momentum and ensured that the Demons were victorious on the day.

Baghdad Bombers (17.12 114) were defeated by Sin City Swamprats (20.15 135) by 21 points.

An eight goal burst from the Sin City Swamprats in the second quarter set the tone for their 21-point victory. Five goals from Grav and another four from norway blue just was not enough to get over the Swamprats two quarter demolition as they attempted to will their team over the line in the last quarter cutting a 36 three quarter time deficit.

It was eight goals from TheGoatBaron which will ensure that their name will stand out in the voting discussion. The team from Sin City also had stand out performances from sataris (21 disposals, 8 tackles, 1.4) and damicky (22 disposals, 4 tackles, 1.1)

A six goal to one opening quarter from the Gumbies FFC set the scene of the game however a disappointing third quarter had them lose the lead to the Ophidian Old Boys before gaining it back before the final siren to be 13 point winners.

It was a team effort by the Gumibies but three goals from rookie, matthew Jelly (18 disposals) and a 20 disposal, 5 tackle, one goal game from StFly were their standouts. The Old Boys had an outstanding five goal haul from gab213 while thewizardmelon (12 hitouts, 19 disposals, 5 tackles, 2.0) put in a solid effort.

Roys FFC (13.7 85) were defeated by Las Vegas Bears (13.8 86) by 1 point.

A thrilling contest between the Roys FFC and the Las Vegas Bears had the Bears hang on by just one point. The Roys were able to start with a bang and find a 13 point lead at the first break but it quickly disappeared and turned to just three points at the main break. From there it was the Bears who were able to find the lead during the third quarter to lead by two points and kick on to hold on by the time the final siren sounded.

Stand out games came from JackNah_8 (20 disposals, 6 marks, 1.1), SpecialBruce (21 disposals, 9 marks, 1.0), and DERRINALPHIL (10 hitouts, 21 disposals, 5 tackles, 1.0).

Fighting Furies (22.13 145) defeated Coney Island Warriors (19.16 130) by 15 points.

The sun was out at the hippodrome as a high scoring match had the Fighting Furies and the Coney Island Warriors combine for 10 goals in the first quarter with the Furies kicking the majority to get out to a 25 point lead by the first break. They didn’t let up from there and lead at every break to announce themselves as 15 point winners.

The goals were flying from the Furies duo of ShaunDuggan (6 goals) and SplintWhisky (5 goals) while down the other end Tonga Bob kicked five of his own. TRUMAN#1 (22 hitouts, 29 disposals, 2.2), Orange crush (28 disposals, 6 marks) and jannissary (28 disposals, 6 marks, 1.1) all found plenty of the ball.

Gumbies FFC vs Sin City Swamprats at The House of Gumby (MOTR)
MOTR as the undefeated Gumbies (4-0) host the undefeated Swampies (3-0).
The Swampies stunned the Gumbies leading 7.2 to 4.3 at quarter time. There must have been a few fatal beatings at the break because it was one way traffic from here as the Gumbots piled on 18 goals to 5 to dominate winning by 66 points. GWS Goose and Hydatina Physis kicked 4 each for the winners and TheGoatBaron kicked 4 for the Swampies. Mop had 24 and 3 tackles, beez 22 and 4 tackles. jackster83 had 18 hitouts, 23 possies, 3 tackles and a goal to lead all players with 101 DT again proving that ruckmen have no influence and are complete meatheads.

Dragons FFC 13.8 (86) drew with Wonders FFC 13.8 (86) at Ljp86's Lair
This could also have been MOTR as 2nd played 3rd with both 3-1 and this game would be a cracker!
It was a very tightly contested first half with just 10 goals and the Wonders enjoyed a 2 goal lead. The Dragons kicked 4 goals to 3 in the third to get within 8 points. The last quarter was an arm wrestle and when the final siren sounded it was a draw! Bradesmaen and Drizzy kicked 2 each and croweater 41 kicked 3. Hatchy1992 had 22, 3 tackles and a goal in a more even team performance. Pamcake1 had 30, 6 tackles, 1 goal and 104 DT to be BOG, Coopers had 29 and 5 tackles and ClarkeM had 25, 3 tackles and a goal.

The second bottom Wazzas (1-3) hosted ninth placed Bombers (1-2).
The Wazzas had the Bombers measure all day kicking one goal more than their rivals each quarter to win by 4 goals. Tonga Bob kicked 4 leading the Wazzas and they enjoyed 10 goal scorers kicking their 14 goals. DemurePrincess and Irish BlueBagger kicked 2 each for the Bombers. Snuffaluphagus 20, 4 tackles and 2 goals and The Filth Wizard 21, 4 tackles and 1 goal lead the Wazzas while SaintsSeptember 10 hit outs, 24, 2 tackles and 1 goal and WAbulldog 19 and 5 tackles were good for the Bombers.

East Side Hawks 18.13 (121) defeat Gold City Royals 11.19 (85) at The Eyrie
The fifth placed Hawks (2-1) hosted the winless Royals (0-4).
This played out to form as the Hawks kicked 7 goals to 2 in the first quarter and cruised to a 36 pts win. boncer34 kicked 4 and reggie kicked 3 for the winners while jamesclean kicked 3 for the Royals. Shermy 28, 9 tackles, 1 goal and 111 DT and Tarkyn_24 23, 10 tackles and 101 DT dominated. Las Vegas Bears 15.13 (103) defeated by Fighting Furies 18.10 (118) at The Stadium in the Sky
The seventh placed Bears (3-2) hosted the eleventh placed Furies (1-3).
The Furies jumped out of the blocks kicking 7 goals to 5 in the first quarter. There must have been a strong wind as the Bears kicked 6 goals to 3 in the second. The Furies kicked 8 goals to 3 in the third to lead by only 8 points at the last change. However the Furies parked the bus to win by 15 points. Art Vandelay_ kicked 5 and Senor M 4 for the Bears while ShaunDuggan kicked 6 for the winners. Senor M was BOG with 16 hit outs, 29, 5 tackles, 4 goals and 131 DT. RonnieRaven had 27, 5 tackles and 110 DT and Cap had 16, 14 tackles and 105 DT. Mount Buller Demons 21.12 (138) defeat Roys FFC 16.8 (104) at The Snow Dome
The sixth placed Delons (2-1) hosted the tenth placed Roys (1-3).
It was a high scoring and even first half with a whopping 23 goals and the Delons lead by 5 points. However the good juice at HT saw the Delons kick 6 goals to 1 to blow the game open as they went on to comfortably win by 34 points. Proper Gander kicked 3 and an impressive 7 players kicked 2 each as the Delons shared it around. HinkleysHeroes and Mooch kicked 3 each for the Roys. tomcruise 33, 2 tackles, 2 goals and 124 DT was BOG and Jatz had 19, 6 tackles and 2 goals. Sin City Swamprats 13.5 (83) defeated by Coney Island Warriors 13.9 (87) at the Underground Stadium

The Warriors went underground looking to even the ledger on their season, being hosted by a Swamprat outfit who would lay claim to a top four spot with a win. The hosts started the brighter however the visitors led by a goal after a five goal to one second quarter – a half in which both teams were perfect in front of goal. Inaccuracy crept into a tight second half as that second quarter proved decisive, with the visitors leaving with the four points.

The Filth Wizard had an astonishing 12 tackles to go with 21 disposals, a goal and probably three Mobbs votes. toxic (20 disposals/4 marks/3 tackles/2 goals) also had a blinder while Moo (15 disposals/5 marks/2 tackles), FootyGuy13 (17 disposals/4 marks/1 goal), spudmaster (12 disposals/6 tackles/4 frees for), Barrybran (15 disposals/11 hitouts/2 tackles), ubiquitous226 (15 disposals/4 marks) & pantskyle (14 disposals/4 marks/3 tackles) all d8id the business. And up front it was the Tonga Bob show with a half dozen snags, ably assisted with Freofalcon who had two.

MP_ (17 disposals/6 tackles/7 frees for) & SweetD (20 disposals/3 marks/1 goal) were the best for the Sinners with help from jackster83 (15 disposals/4 marks/1 goal) & Rodney Dangerfield (15 disposals/5 marks), while up front TheGoatBaron (4 goals) & GremioPower (3 goals) did the bulk of the damage. And weird stat line of the round went to damicky who had more tackles (7) than disposals (6).

Baghdad Bombers 15.12 (102) defeated by Dragons FFC 26.14 (170) at Abdu Prison

The Dragons headed to Abdu Prison flying high but fresh off the first draw of the season, while the Bombers had one win to show for their efforts thus far. That effort reaped early reward, with the Bombers leading by as much as 8 points early doors. The hosts then discovered the script, piling on ten first quarter goals to lead by 43 points at the first change to effectively kill the contest. Only a Jofra Archeresqe spell in the final quarter from the hosts saved the final result from being larger than the eventual 68 points it ended up being as the visitors left with the four points.

The Chief antagonists (pun absolutely intended) for the Dragons included the phenomenal by name and phenomenal by nature PhenomenalV1 who kicked nine goals along with Strigoi (29 disposals/12 hitouts/6 tackles/1 goal), Pie 4 Life (28 disposals/5 tackles/3 goals), Purple Jesus (21 disposals/10 marks/3 goals), Drizzy (23 disposals/10 marks/2 goals), Blaze Storm (24 disposals/4 marks/1 goal), A Swallow (19 disposals/5 marks/2 goals), Hatchy1992 (23 disposals/5 marks) & Ligma (4 goals).

Best on for the Babylonians were WAbulldog (28 disposals/7 tackles/2 goals) & The Sultan (29 disposals/7 marks/1 goal) with noble efforts from BoozedUP (26 disposals/19 hitouts/1 goal), CursingFijian (26 disposals/7 marks), Bovo (21 disposals/4 tackles), JoeldTrafford (17 disposals/6 frees for/3 marks/3 tackles) & Grav (14 disposals/5 tackles/1 goal), while norway blue (3) and Kilroy (2) were the other multiple goal kickers.

Las Vegas Bears 9.8 (62) defeated by Ophidian Old Boys 15.12 (102) at the Stadium In The Sky

The Bears and Old Boys were both just outside the eight leading into this round six clash, so you would expect this game to be a close one. Well it wasn’t really, although it wasn’t as bad as the whooping the Dragons gave the Bombers. Despite a third quarter rally from the Bears, it was the Ophidians who did it comfortably to win by 40 to leave the Stadium In The Sky with the four points.

The Old Boys were well served by Dingster (12 disposals/9 tackles/2 goals), Braklet (19 disposals/5 tackles/4 frees for), manicpie (22 disposals/7 marks/2 goals), gab213 (a Michelle) & Tigerturbulance (15 disposals/6 marks/3 tackles) while the best for the Bears were Cap (15 disposals/4 tackles/2 goals), Matera92 (14 disposals/15 hitouts/3 tackles), RonnieRaven (16 disposals/1 goal) & Chipmunk (17 disposals/6 marks) and Art Vandelay_ (3) & spinynorman (2) were the multiple goal kickers.

Fighting Furies 11.6 (72) defeated by East Side Hawks 15.11 (101) at rfctigerarmy’s hippodrome

The Hawks visited the Furies with both sides wanting a win to consolidate their top 8 places and, after a slow start, the defending champions flexed their avian muscles to win three and draw one of the four quarters on offer to win by five goals and in doing so left the hippodrome with the four points.

Pretty even spread of performances from the Hawks led by Loonerty (21 disposals/5 marks/5 tackles/1 goal), sausageroll (22 disposals/6 tackles/5 frees for), boncer34 (15 disposals/7 tackles/1 goal), TY24 (23 disposals/14 hitouts/3 tackles), cats2rise (20 disposals/3 marks/3 goals), SM (16 disposals/5 marks/2 goals) & eth-dog (17 disposals/7 marks) while Giant Strides (3) & larrikin (2) were the other multiple goal kickers.

Gold City Royals 11.13 (79) defeated by Roys FFC 17.15 (117) at the Golden Palace

It was the Battle of the Blurst at the Golden Palace as the stone motherless Royals hosted the Roys, as the two teams shared one win and four letters in their names between them. The hosts had a good second quarter, kicking six goals. Unfortunately for them the Roys did the same, along with another 11 to the Royals’ 5 for the rest of the match as the Gorillas left with the four points.

There was quite a bit of stat padding in this one. Cats_R_Cool_4_Ever (31 disposals/11 tackles) led all comers ably assisted by DERRINALPHIL (34 disposals/12 hitouts/7 tackles/4 frees for), royboy2 (23 disposals/9 tackles/2 goals), SpecialBruce (28 disposals/7 marks/3 tackles), Phar Ace (29 disposals/7 marks), CM86 (24 disposals/6 marks/4 tackles), windyhill (23 disposals/4 marks) & 3KZ is Football (25 disposals/4 marks), while the 7.6 from Mooch was massive but could have been massiver.

The hosts were well led by Cadsky (27 disposals/8 tackles/6 frees for), GreyCrow (29 disposals/11 hitouts/4 tackles/5 frees for) and Ulahoopski (28 disposals/7 marks/1 goal), with @Footiepie32 (18 disposals/4 marks/4 goals), krakouers (19 disposals/9 marks), Membling (21 disposals/8 marks), grumbleguts (22 disposals/4 marks, hotchilli (3 goals) and reigning Mobbs Medallist Crimson Azure (15 disposals/5 tackles/5 frees for) all there or thereabouts.

Gumbies FFC 18.17 (125) defeat Mount Buller Demons 14.5 (89) at the House of Gumby

At the other end of the ladder sat the Gumbies and the Demons who had only one loss collectively from nine games. In a high pressure contest early there was a point separating the two before the hosts owned the middle two quarters kicking 11 goals to four. A late spurt from the visitors was too little too late, trimming a 50 point three quarter time lead to 36 at the final siren meaning this was the only match where the visitors did not leave with the four points.

The Man Known By Many Names but for now let’s call him Hydatina Physis absolutely feasted, kicking nine goals. @Supercheapgialnts (17 disposals/10 tackles/6 frees for/2 goals) continued their strong start to the season while GWS Goose (24 disposals/7 tackles), Brick Loosener (22 disposals/9 marks), beez (24 disposals/3 marks), ossie_21 (17 disposals/6 marks/1 goal), Falconista (24 disposals/3 marks), cats_09 (19 disposals/13 hitouts/3 tackles), bone2468 (18 disposals/5 marks/2 goals), Spooky17 (16 disposals/6 marks/1 goal) & highly-touted rookie Matthew Jelley (16 disposals/3 marks/2 goals) all powered the hosts to victory.

Speaking of highly-touted rookies, tomcruise (30 disposals/8 marks/3 tackles) probably bettered his EKA rival while Proper Gander (22 disposals/7 tackles/7 frees for/2 goals), Scythe (18 disposals/8 hitouts/7 tackles), moginie (24 disposals/7 marks/1 goal), All Aust (24 disposals/7 marks/1 goal), DemonJim (24 disposals/5 tackles/1 goal), p4p1 (21 disposals/7 marks) & Gralin (21 disposals/2 tackles) made a contest of it. Up from both Yakker & DERO kicked three majors each.

Frankston Rover Award
S40Mobbs FRA.png
The Frankson Rover award is presented by the league Administrator to the poster or posters that have gone above and beyond for the league during the season.

There were some worthy choices this season but there were to me two names that provided support to the league and also helped drive engagement and at the end of the day I've taken the cowards way out by not having to pick my favorite.

Falconista has done a mountain of work this season, Captain of one of the best run clubs, Keeper of the sacred texts (The Ladder Thread) committee member, match poster and media creator. It was another stellar season for Falc who goes back to back and wins his 4th Frankston Rover Award

Tonga Bob has collated posting stats for the second season, has again run a tight ship at the Wazzas and apart from providing his usual high level of match posting and media output you may notice his name across 5 rounds in this thread as he helped a poor Admin out and picked up some extra Rounds that needed reallocating, this will be Bob's first Frankston Rover

Congratulations to both of you

Sin City Swamprats 18.6 (114) defeat Las Vegas Bears 15.6 (96) at the Underground Stadium

The Sin Citizens were still at home in round 6 looking to bounce back from a loss last time up, as were the Las Vegans though the hosts had banked more wins to this stage. And that form line was looking to continue as the hosts raced out to a 19 point lead at the first change. The visitors were having none of it however, retaking the lead at the half and, while things got tight heading into the last quarter, the Swamprats made the most of the home conditions to finish up three goals to the good.

Speaking of good, GotTheGoodes (29 disposals/9 marks/1 goal) had a big one for the hosts as did sataris (29 disposals/6 tackles/4 frees for), TheGoatBaron (7 goals), tigs2010 (24 disposals/3 marks/4 tackles/3 goals), Rodney Dangerfield (18 disposals/7 marks) & Ant Bear (15 disposals/5 tackles).

Meanwhile for the visitors it was Cap (19 disposals/5 tackles/6 frees for), RonnieRaven (27 disposals/7 marks), SSSSSS (25 disposals/10 marks), Matera92 (21 disposals/10 hitouts/3 tackles/2 goals), Millky95 (18 disposals/2 goals) & RookiePick (4 goals) that shone the brightest.

Dragons FFC 12.10 (82) defeated by Gumbies FFC 15.6 (96) at Ljp86’s Lair

Match of the round featured the top two teams, and the Dragons & Gumbies delivered a seesawing stouch to claim bragging rights if not top spot. And it was the hosts that had the better of early proceedings by kicking four of the five first quarter goals before the ladder leaders by kicking seven goals to three in the second to take a slim lead into the second half. The Dragons then wrenched that lead back by the last change by six points however that effort took the wind out of them, as the Gumbies kicking the next four goals with only a late consolation to freo84 keeping both the final margin to 14 points and the plasticine people’s perfect record intact.

The Gumbies were well served by Mop (23 disposals/3 marks), bone2468 (12 disposals/5 tackles/4 frees for/3 goals), beez (21 disposals/4 marks), Dory_77 (4 goals), Spooky17 (18 disposals/3 marks/1 goal), GWS Goose (14 disposals/5 tackles/8 frees for) & captain Falconista (13 disposals/3 marks/3 tackles/2 goals).

On the other hand the ones that stood up for the Dragons were Blaze Storm (21 disposals/8 marks), Hatchy1992 (23 disposals/7 marks), Bradesmaen (14 disposals/5 tackles/4 frees for/1 goal), freo84 (3 goals) & Strigoi (13 disposals/15 hitouts/1 goal).

Fighting Furies 9.11 (65) defeated by Gold City Royals 19.11 (125) at rfctigerarmy’s hippodrome

On the other end of the ladder sat the Furies and the Royals who had two wins between them for the season, both belonging to the hosts. It was perhaps the best chance for the Gold Citizens to notch up their first win since the previous round, and you’d imagine they couldn’t waste another chance, could they?

Could they?

Well as it turned out, they didn’t! A five goal to one opening term gave the visitors a lead that remained steady until the final quarter where they went up the gears to record a 60 point thumping of the Furies.

Reigning Mobbs Medallist Crimson Azure was a tackling machine, having 11 to go with 23 disposals and 2 goals. Others to do well were grumbleguts (22 disposals/11 marks/1 goal), Ulahoopski (20 disposals/5 tackles/1 goal), Cadsky (20 disposals/6 tackles/4 frees for/1 goal), Smartys Power (20 disposals/7 hitouts/3 tackles/2 goals) & CakeEater (3 goals).

@#TRUMAN#1 won the ruck battle with 12 hitouts to go with 28 disposals/4 tackles & a goal, while others to do alright were rfctigerarmy (20 disposals/4 tackles/5 frees for/1 goal), Pickitt (20 disposals/4 marks/3 tackles/1 goal), Orange crush (28 disposals/4 marks/1 goal), Chronz (19 disposals/6 marks) & crazywildhorse (21 disposals/4 marks).

Roys FFC 17.8 (110) defeat Wonders FFC 16.8 (104) at Brunswick Junction Oval

The Wonders headed to the BJO refreshed after the bye and confident after a start which saw them in the top four. Perhaps they were too refreshed and/or confident as they didn’t worry about following the traditional calibration of correct team sheet submission. The Roys on the other hand were sitting percentage outside the eight and like to also do things in their own time but when they get around to it they do things right. And that’s how the game panned out, trailing by a goal at the first change then by 1.5 goals at the second before coming to life and taking a goal lead into the last quarter, which they maintained. Maybe that’s how their season will also pan out???

For the Gorillas it was DERRINALPHIL (30 disposals/13 hitouts/7 tackles/2 goals) that was best on ably supported by Mooch (6 goals), royboy2 (28 disposals/6 tackles/4 frees for), HinkleysHeroes (20 disposals/5 marks/5 tackles/1 goal), Phar Ace (25 disposals/2 goals), Cats_R_Cool_4_Ever (18 disposals/5 tackles/4 frees for/1 goal) & JackNah_8 (16 disposals/4 marks/4 tackles/1 goal).

East Side Hawks 14.3 (87) defeat Baghdad Bombers 12.9 (81) at the Eyrie

The Hawks and Bombers had opposing win/loss records coming into this match, with the hosts at 4-1 and the visitors at 1-4. The match itself was closer than the form line suggested though, as a super accurate East Side outfit eventually prevailing by six points despite the Babylonians have four more shots on goal.

boncer34 turned back the clock to kick seven goals for the Hawks while sausageroll (17 disposals/7 tackles/5 frees for/2 goals), TY24 (16 disposals/5 tackles/7 hitouts/1 goal), Tarkyn_24 (18 disposals/5 tackles/4 frees for), Loonerty (25 disposals/5 marks/1 goal), SM (17 disposals/5 marks/3 tackles/2 goals), Callums_Guns (19 disposals/9 marks) & Itsmyshow (18 disposals/7 marks/3 tackles).

As for the Bombers the best performing were tomjoad (6 goals), WAbulldog (21 disposals/6 tackles/2 goals), Bovo (22 disposals/8 tackles/4 frees for), norway blue (21 disposals/5 marks/3 tackles/1 goal), BoozedUP (25 disposals/4 marks/1 goal), Kilroy (17 disposals/4 tackles) & TubbsFarquhar (14 disposals/9 marks).

Mount Buller Demons 17.12 (114) defeat Ophidian Old Boys 14.8 (92) at the Snow Dome

The Demons hosted the Old Boys in the final game of the round with both teams looking to consolidate their positions in the top eight. And after an even first quarter the Ophidians were two goals up at the half. A lead which vanished in the third as the hosts kicked five goals to one while outscoring the visitors in the last by another goal to finish 22 points in the black.

DemonJim had leather poisoning after having 35 touches and 7 marks while the engine room of Gralin (26 disposals/9 tackles/1 goal), Scythe (24 disposals/13 hitouts/3 goals), moginie (29 disposals/4 marks/3 tackles/1 goal), Jatz (23 disposals/4 tackles/5 frees for/1 goal), tomcruise (22 disposals/4 marks/3 goals) & Bluelegs (19 disposals/6 marks/1 goal) provided the grunt.

Braklet (22 disposals/8 tackles/1 goal) & thewizardmelon (20 disposals/17 hitouts/4 tackles/1 goal) were the best for the Old Boys, with support from former winner philreich (19 disposals/6 marks), Pugsley (14 disposals/8 marks) & tigerland_1720 (15 disposals/6 marks/1 goal) while gab213 (4 goals) & @Juddgement Day (3 goals) did the bulk of the scoring.

Match of the Round – Demons vs Hawks

The Snow Dome turned into a blizzard of brilliance as the Demons buried the Hawks in a flurry of goals and good times.

Mount Buller’s midfield came in like a wrecking ball, while the Hawks never hit so hard in love.

DERO – The Blizzard Bringer

Cold air, hot hands, bad breath. Two goals, both beautiful. Even the Hawks’ defenders applauded (quietly, under their breath).

jmoo wan – The Smooth Operator

Ten silky disposals, zero panic, and a telepathic link with every teammate - this is why they call him Sade around the clubroom. He played the sort of goals that make small children believe in Santa again.

Proper Gander 's Guide of How-Not-To-Play Qooty (A weekly masterclass in chaos)

They say every great team needs balance, stars who shine, grinders who grind, and one player who provides comic relief. For the Demons, that honour falls proudly to @Proper Gander, who this week delivered another unforgettable performance in the fine art of “almost.”

  • The Kick That Defied Logic: Early in the first, Proper Gander attempted a switch-kick that somehow travelled backwards and sideways. Physicists are still investigating.
  • The Tackle That Tackled No One: Midway through the second, she lined up a crunching hit… on a patch of air. The air remains unharmed but deeply traumatised.
  • The Mark That Wasn’t: At one point, she leapt beautifully, timed it perfectly, and then… forgot to bring her hands. Crowd gave it a 9.5 for style, 0 for completion.
For the Hawks

Tarkyn_24 had 28 touches and somehow managed to make 29 mistakes. Spent most of the fourth quarter yelling at clouds, possibly for better structure and accountability.

Result: A 35-point win that never felt in doubt, except on the rare occasion Proper Gander had the ball in hand.

The Snow Dome remains a graveyard for visiting clubs and a paradise for stat-padders.

Around the Grounds in Brief (cos who really gives a shit)

Gold City Royals vs Las Vegas Bears

The Royals tried to defend The Golden Throne but mostly looked like they were shitting in it.

Footypie32 lead the competition in “almost marks.” Dropped more ball-shaped objects than a toddler with shiityfingers After the game, reportedly told media he was “building tension.”

@MannumPower kicked a goal, celebrated like he’d won a premiership… then immediately gave away a free kick for over-celebration. The umpire was so confused he awarded a 50 just on principle.

Bears ran riot 22.2 (134) to 19.11 (125).

Baghdad Bombers vs Gumbies FFC

At Abdu Prison, the Bombers blew up the scoreboard and the Gumbies’ self-esteem, 17.5 (107) to 11.8 (74).
The Gumbies’ forward line was last seen applying for witness protection. Rumour has it their coach replaced the whiteboard with a mirror for “reflection time.”

KohPhi tried to inspire the troops with a halftime speech, but forgot the words halfway through and just started quoting Gladiator 2, not even the good one

Barrybran played the game like he plays werewolf. Didn’t contribute until it was all but over and no one realised he was playing until he was modkilled.

West Coast Wonders vs Coney Island Warriors

The Warriors waltzed in, stole the Wonders’ snacks, and left with a 39-point win: 16.9 (105) to 9.12 (66).

TheInjuryFactory tried to lay a shepherd, missed entirely, and took out his own teammate. Still recorded an assist, for the opposition.

ClarkeM kicked the first goal, then disappeared so completely that local authorities briefly filed a missing person report. No one missed him at all

Wonders looked surprised that four quarters are still part of the rules.
Coney Island didn’t even break a sweat—probably because they were too busy taking selfies.

spookism Spent most of the match asking the umpire if “we’re still playing advantage.” Accidentally tackled a teammate during the third quarter, then claimed “I did ask for consent”

Mobbs ,the wily veteran turned back the clock… unfortunately to 2006. Kicked one out on the full, then muttered “bloody modern qootballs.”

The Roys claim they were “building character.” The ‘Prats claimed a two-goal lead and called it a day.

Ophidian Old Boys vs Fighting Furries

A thriller! The Old Boys won by a single point 10.14 (74) to 11.7 (73).

The Filth Wizard

Usually the calm conductor, but this week he conducted absolutely nothing. Tried to switch the play, accidentally booted it into his own teammate’s back. Tactical? Maybe. Effective? Absolutely not.

Tigerturbulance played like a man allergic to good decisions. Fumbled, tripped, argued with an advertising sign, and somehow still nearly won the game. Truly the Picasso of chaos.

The Furries blamed the umpires, the weather, and the curvature of the Earth.
Meanwhile, the Old Boys celebrated like they’d just invented qootball.

We tried something a little different this year with the SFACA Award. Whether this sticks or not is yet to be seen but each club nominated a player based on statistical output and from there each club votes 3-2-1 for the players they thought most deserving excluding their own nomination (same process as the EKA)

We again had a tie for 3rd with DemurePrincess (Bombers) and DERRINALPHIL (Roys) getting the exact same spread of votes

In second slightly ahead was dogs105 (Wonders)

But the runaway winner was everyone's favourite bookie rodent Chipmunk (Bears)

Baghdad Bombers v Las Vegas Bears

Welcome to cloudy Baghdad… Yes, it was an gloomy day in Baghdad for the Round 10 clash between the Bombers and the Las Vegas Bears.

The battle of the desert saw an extremely close battle from the bounce, trading behinds early before Grav sealed the first goal of the game. After a small hit back by a Art Vandelay_ double, scores became locked at 16 at quarter time.

The second quarter remained as tight as the first, with Matele and DemurePrincess trading goals early goals. Some strong work by Irish BlueBagger, Jabba73 and Raz provided helpful for Baghdad, but the Bears punched ahead at the break from the skills of @Milky95 and Matera92.

The Bears continued their push in the third, taking a 17 point lead midway through the quarter thanks to @Tandy’s multiple goals. However, the stats showed a continual close contest, with late 2 late Bombers goals opening the door for a late comeback.

The Bombers punched ahead, flipping the script and taking a strong 14 point lead off the back of SaintsSeptember. They’d continue to hold their form, holding out the Bears in the closing minutes to go home 6 point winners.

Across the park, @Milky95, Matera92 and Cap had strong games for the Bears, recording over 24 disposals each.

For the Bombers, Raz, Irish BlueBagger, Kilroy and Jabba73 all recorded strong games, sharing much of the ball.

Dragons FFC v Roys FFC

The fourth-place Dragons (5-1-2) hosted the eighth-place Roys (4-5) on a hot day at Ljp86’s Lair.

A quick start from the Dragons thanks to 4 different goal kickers saw a 13 point lead midway through the first, yet thanks to a royboy2 double, the Roys punched back to take a 7 point lead into the break.

Any wind disappeared in the second, with both sides kicking straight down the barrel, with DERRINALPHIL recording the only behind of the quarter. Mooch opened his account for the day, alongside _Mike_ to help double the Roys lead at half time.

The third quarter had it all, with Mooch adding to a 20 point lead early. But a phenomenal fight back from @Phenomena1V1 saw the lead cut back, and overtaken, allowing Ligma to seal a 13 point Dragons lead at 3 quarter time.

Yet it was @Mooch’s 4 goal quarter that saw Roys flip the script back, and take home the 14 point win.

Strong days were had by the Roy favourites royboy2 and Roylion in contributing to the win.

Alternatively, a big day out for Strigoi and support from Blaze Storm and Bradesmaen strengthened the contest.

The rain swept east over The Eyrie, where the East Side Hawks took on the Wonders.

In the first, the Wonders stormed off to a blistering start, with BFew landing 3 early goals and with support of jezzajay and Roonescape helped take the Wonders to a 24-point lead.

The second quarter saw much of the same by the Wonders, with more goals for BFew, and major support from ClarkeM, dogs105, and HARPSichord running the team out to a 45 point lead. Yet, it was Tarkyn_24 that held the Hawks in the game with a few late goals, opening the door slightly for a comeback.

Into the third, and the Hawks came out firing, with reggie, cats2rise and Biggie leading a surge towards a massive comeback. Despite their continual efforts, Giants YoYo and the Wonders punched their lead back out to hold a 38 point lead at the final break.

The last quarter saw a last ditch effort by the Hawks, with late momentum supported by reggie and Giant Strides helping the margin reduce. But in the end, the Wonders remained too strong, taking victory.

Fighting Furies v Mount Buller Demons

Rfctigerarmy’s Hippodrome was the sight of the Fighting Furies v Mt Buller Demons clash, with the winner taking a lead in the head-to-head battle.

The first quarter was intense, with the Furies taking an early lead, the Demons taking control through the middle, and eventually the scores becoming level. ShaunDuggan slotted 2 goals for the Furies, whilst Yakker and Wosh helped bring the Demons into the fight.

The Furies took control in the second, with Edmund hunt, @Grokadoc and Chronz helping push their lead out to 16. Some strong work from TRUMAN#1 in the ruck battle proved beneficial, yet moginie continued to work hard for the Demons.

Wonders FFC 20.12 (132) defeat Fighting Furies 20.10 (130)

The Wonders knew this game was make-or-break for their season with a chance to get in the 8.
Furies got the jump kicking 7 in the first, before the Wonders reeled them in with 7 in the second. It became a classic shootout, both sides notched up 20 goals each.
The Wonders led till the end of the third, by which time the Furies seemed to have taken back the ascendancy.
For the Furies, Orange crush (the league leader in handballs) showed why he’s sought-after, and Greenery (12 tackles) provided plenty of niggle with his knack for making his opponents pay.
For the Wonders it was a Captain’s game from AnUltimateRessie who had 38 possessions on the Wing. dogs105 - the hitout king - continually drove them forward
Of the goals, 5 went to SplintWhisky the Furies FP and 7 goals went to BFew the Wonders FF, including the last one that put them back in front as they snatched it to win by 2 points.

Dragons FFC 14.8 (92) defeated by Ophidian Old Boys 15.7 (97)

The Old Boys were looking to shore up their spot in the 8 against the Dragons, who had their eye on the Top 4.
After an even first quarter the Dragons held a 22-point lead by halftime.
In the middle, manicpie and Dingster (in his 550th) were in everything for the OOBs. Dingster finishing with 10 tackles.
OOBs chipped away at that lead in the second half, hitting the front thanks largely to 3 goals in 10 minutes from gab213 in the last term.
The Dragons’ stalwarts Hatchy1992 and Strigoi battled hard all day and did everything they could to halt the OOBs’ momentum. PhenomenalV1 finished with 3 for the Dragons.
But the Spotswood midfielders were too strong in the clinches.

Gumbies FFC 13.10 (88) defeated by East Side Hawks 13.13 (91)

The Gumbies - league leaders - were clear on top but expecting a tough contest from the in-form reigning premiers who were in second place.
Gumbies shot out to an early lead but after the first quarter the Hawks were pretty much up a goal or two the rest of the game.
For the Gumbies, bone2468 came off the bench and starred ably supported by Brick Loosener on a Wing. Hydatina Physis chalked up 4 majors on the day.
For the Hawks, Loonerty - leading the league in kicks this season - was lively again through the centre of the ground. sausageroll ran amok and seemed to be everywhere. Fullforward boncer34 was elusive, with 6 to his name.
In the end the Hawks were too good for the Gumbies in an epic top-of-the-table slugfest.
It was only the Gumbies’ 2nd loss for the season.

Las Vegas Bears 13.10 (88) defeat Coney Island Warriors 12.8 (80)

The Warriors, desperate to make the finals, needed a win to stay in the 8. The Bears were wondering when their turn would come to win something - anything. It turned out to be quite an arm-wrestle.
Bears Winger RonnieRaven and on-baller Millky95 were a formidable combination, driving the ball forward and creating scoring opportunities. They each ended up with 26 possessions.
Art Vandelay capitalised with 4 goals (3 in the second half).
For the Warriors, Smoooothy dominated on a HFF and Raveneyes came off the BP to give them some spark in the middle.

To say the Bears were relieved might be an understatement, but they were hanging out for a week off with a bye.

Gold City Royals 5.9 (39) defeated by Baghdad Bombers 10.15 (75)

Bombers were looking for their 2nd win in a row and to improve their odds of making finals. They led all day against the lacklustre Royals who were left searching for the positives in what was becoming one of the worst seasons ever.
The Bombers came out meaning business from the get-go, but neither team could kick straight.
Bombers’ mids WAbulldog and Irish BlueBagger won the stoppages and clearances and Grav dominated up forward ending up with 5 for the afternoon. Saint Kidding continued to impress after last week’s debut.
Royals grumbleguts was a constant presence with 27 possessions. Ulahoopski was a standout in the Centre. Brenton Davy got moved up the ground to get him into the game and had a positive impact taking 8 marks.
You’d expect that with the new recruit Robertio taking over Ruck duties it might require a period of adjustment, but you’d expect GreyCrow to return next week.

Mount Buller Demons 17.10 (112) defeat Sin City Swamprats 15.11 (101)

Demons (3rd) were up against the Swamprats (4th) and a willing contest was to be expected.
The game started with Yakker kicking 5 goals in the first quarter with the Dees up by 45. The game looked to be over.
But by the end of the third quarter the Swamprats were only a goal down.
For the Demons, moginie was probably BOG for the game, owning the members wing with 23 possessions.
manangatang was stoic in defence in his 250th.
Yakker added a highlight reel of 7 to his tally for the season.
For the Swamprats, tigs2010 was their best, Firestarter was true to his name and Jackster had 27 possessions. Meanwhile Jewelsbon started on the interchange but moved forward and helped himself to 3 snags for the game.
In the end the Dees dug deep to defeat the fast-finishing Swampies by 3 points.

Wonders FFC 15.7 (97) defeat Las Vegas Bears 10.11 (71)

After a slow start, the in-form Wonders found their momentum to overwhelm and overpower the Bears. The Wonders midfield was quite brilliant with HARPSichord, Giant YoYo and AnUltimateRessie all getting plenty of the pill. The Bears had two starring mids also in the form of Millky95 (27 disposals) and Electronic_Renaissance (22 disposals). However, one Wonder had a day out leaving everyone else in their wake- ClarkeM. Wouldn’t it be humorous if the sim only gave Clarkey 2 votes (or less) for this performance…!?!

Roys FFC 20.10 (130) defeat Coney Island Warriors 18.11 (119)

Defence wasn’t on the menu when the Roys and Warriors met at the BJO. A lot of players put in good statistical matches meaning votes could spray in many directions. Chezzalenko Reborn, Phar Ace, royboy2, JackNah_8 and Cats_R_Cool_4_Ever all topped 20 disposals for the Roys, and full forward Mooch put through another 5 goals. Raveneyes and The Filth Wizard were both prolific in the guts for the Wahs with good support from Barrybran and pantskyle.

Other strong performers include GreyCrow and Ulahoopski (both with 27 touches), and former winner Crimson Azure was also roving with aplomb. Baghdad Bombers 15.12 (102) defeated by Wonders FFC 19.8 (122)

Baghdad came out firing, slamming on five of the first seven goals to open up a handy 20 point lead at quarter time. Grav and Footy Is Good were causing headaches for the Wonders backline, while SaintsSeptember joined in with some sharp finishing.

But the Wonders responded in brutal fashion in the second term, piling on eight goals to three to flip the game completely. BFew and Giant YoYo led the charge as the visitors turned a 27 point deficit into a 12 point half time lead after a scintillating stretch of attacking qooty.

From there, the Wonders kept their foot on the accelerator. Pamcake1 and jezzajay each chipped in with goals as the lead grew beyond five goals during the third quarter, with the Bombers only able to briefly halt the momentum through goals from iDon and SaintsSeptember.

Baghdad tried to rally in the last, with Grav continuing his strong game up forward, but the Wonders had all the answers. Giant YoYo capped off an excellent individual performance with his fourth goal, sealing a 20 point win in a free flowing contest.

Dragons FFC 15.9 (99) defeated Sin City Swamprats 7.5 (47)

The Dragons took control from the outset, applying strong early pressure and keeping the Swamprats to just one goal in the opening term. Goals from freo84, Blaze Storm and PhenomenalV1 set the tone as the home side took an 18 point lead into the first break.

The second quarter saw the Dragons completely dominate, piling on five goals to one. Purple Jesus kicked two for the term as the Dragons’ midfield took control, giving their forwards plenty of opportunities inside 50. Their accuracy and weight of possession saw the lead stretch out to 44 points at half time.

The Dragons maintained their control after the break, with freo84 and DragoDelph extending the margin beyond 50 points. The Swamprats managed a couple of goals through SweetD and damicky, but couldn’t make any real inroads against a composed Dragons defence.

In the final quarter, TheGoatBaron tried to spark the visitors with two goals, but the Dragons had all the answers. Purple Jesus sealed the result with his third of the game as the Dragons ran out convincing 52 point winners in one of their most complete performances of the season.

Coney Island Warriors 9.6 (60) defeated by Mount Buller Demons 20.16 (136)

The Warriors started well with early goals to zackah and Freofalcon, but once the Demons settled the game shifted quickly. Yakker, tomcruise and cooney all hit the scoreboard as the visitors piled on eight of the last nine goals of the term to take a 38 point lead into quarter time.

The second quarter was more of the same. The Demons controlled the ball and kept the Warriors trapped in their back half, adding another five goals while giving up just one at the other end. The margin blew out to 67 points by half time but could have been a lot more if not for inaccuracy.

The Warriors had a few good moments after the break, with zackah kicking two in a row to give the home crowd something to cheer about, but the Demons always had an answer. DERO and cooney continued to cause problems as the lead hovered around eleven goals.

The final quarter followed the same pattern. Coney Island fought it out and picked up a couple of late goals through Tonga Bob and Barrybran, but the Demons were far too strong. DemonJim and DERO added the finishing touches as Mount Buller ran out 76 point winners in a dominant four quarter performance.

Gumbies FFC 21.11 (137) defeat Gold City Royals 13.8 (86)

The opening term was a genuine shootout. Both sides traded goals early, with Dory_77, Hydatina Physis and Matthew Jelley all hitting the scoreboard for the Gumbies, while Membling and Robertio kept the Royals right in it. Neither team could break away for long, and a late behind saw the Gumbies take a one point lead into quarter time.

Second quarter the Gumbies exploded out of the blocks, kicking three goals in the opening two minutes through Bartel, Matthew Jelley and CatToTheFuture to take early control. The Royals answered with goals to Crimson Azure and CakeEater, and ossie_21 steadied with a goal for the Gumbies soon after. From there it settled into a bit of a scrap, with Brenton Davy pulling one back for the Royals before Dory_77 and Bartel added late majors to push the margin out at half time.

After the break the Gumbies finally created real separation. Goals to ossie_21, Dory_77, beez and Bartel pushed the lead out as their forward pressure began to take over. The Royals kept swinging through Brenton Davy, Smartys Power and KingV23, but the Gumbies always seemed to find a quick reply. By three quarter time the margin had grown to 41 points.

The final term followed the same pattern. Dory_77 kicked his sixth as the Gumbies continued to control the game, while Uncle_Leo and Robertio added a couple late for the Royals. The Gumbies finished strongly with goals to cats_09 and Brick Loosener before Dory_77 rounded out a big day in front of goal with his seventh. In the end the Gumbies were too consistent across the four quarters, running out 51 point winners.

East Side Hawks 14.8 (92) defeat Ophidian Old Boys 13.13 (91)

The opening term set the tone for a wild contest. Both sides traded goals throughout, with manicpie, Harvey Manfrenjensenden and sabso hitting the scoreboard for the Old Boys, while the Hawks answered through larrikin, boncer34 and Tarkyn_24. Neither team could pull away, but two late goals to the Old Boys gave them a 13 point lead at quarter time.

The second quarter belonged almost entirely to the Hawks. After an early goal to cats2rise, they gradually took control through repeat forward entries and scoreboard pressure. Zoops was unstoppable, kicking five goals for the quarter as the Hawks kicked the last seven goals of the quarter. By half time they had flipped the match on its head, storming out to a 38 point lead.

The Old Boys needed a lift after the break and got it through thewizardmelon and Pugsley, but each time they made a dent the Hawks answered. Tarkyn_24 and Zoops kept the scoreboard ticking over, and although the Old Boys kept creating chances, they couldn’t close the gap by more than a couple of goals. The Hawks held a 29 point buffer heading into the final term.

The last quarter was chaos. The Old Boys threw everything at the Hawks, with goals to gab213, King Tenz, Elton Johns Wig and sabso dragging the margin all the way back to single digits. When thewizardmelon slammed one through at the 21 minute mark it was suddenly a one point game. But time ran out on the comeback, and the Hawks held on under enormous pressure to claim a dramatic one point win.

Fighting Furies 21.7 (133) defeated by Roys FFC 20.16 (136)

The first quarter was an avalanche of scoring. Both sides came out swinging, with the Furies striking early through ShaunDuggan before the Roys hit back through _Mike_, Mooch and HinkleysHeroes. Every time the Roys looked like building a gap, the Furies answered through ShaunDuggan or Pickitt. But a late burst of goals to DERRINALPHIL and Mooch gave the Roys a 23 point lead at the first break.

The second quarter flipped several times. The Furies stormed out of the blocks with four straight goals through Frothies Mcveigh, SplintWhisky, TRUMAN#1 and ShaunDuggan to grab the lead. But once the Roys settled, they took over again. Mooch, fitzroybowiedog and royboy2 sparked a run of goals that restored the momentum, and by half time the Roys were back out to a 23 point advantage.

After half time the Furies kept hanging on. Grockadoc, ShaunDuggan and Supersuns kept the scoreboard moving, dragging the margin back into single digits. But every time the Furies surged, the Roys had an answer. Mooch and SpecialBruce steadied them, and a run of 5 straight behinds late in the quarter kept the lead intact for the Roys who took a 9 point lead into the final term.

The last quarter was pure chaos. The Furies came hard, with Rioli8217, Supersuns and TRUMAN#1 all stepping up as momentum swung wildly. Each time the Furies grabbed the lead, the Roys struck back through DERRINALPHIL, JackNah_8 or Reardo. Inside the final minutes the Furies pulled ahead again through ShaunDuggan, but there was one last twist. With the game on the line, windyhill slotted the winning goal at the 24 minute mark, sealing a gripping three point Roys victory.

Dragons FFC 23.16 (154) defeat Las Vegas Bears 18.10 (118)

Heritage round commenced with the Dragons exterminating the Bears finals hopes much like News Corp exterminated MySpace. A Swallow (25 disposals), Bradesmaen (22 disposals), Strigoi (21 disposals, 25 hit outs) and PhenomenalV1 (5.3) are the leading vote prospects for the winners. For Las Vegas, Millky95, Electronic_Renaissance and Matera92 each put in admirable performances.

Coney Island Warriors 16.7 (103) defeat Sin City Swamprats 12.5 (77)

The Warriors kept their very faint finals hopes alive with this win. The Filth Wizard and spudmaster were both excellent in the engine room and each recorded 100DT and a double figure tackle count- the sim will like this! Beyond them, it was a very even Coney Island performance with a lot of players in line for votes due to giving the Swampies 99 problems. For the Sin City folk, milestone man MP_ was excellent with 21 disposals and 6 tackles and while tigs2010 had 20 disposals and kicked 2 goals.

Gumbies FFC 20.8 (128) defeat Baghdad Bombers 18.6 (114)

The Gumbies so fetch season continued as they jumped to a big lead against Baghdad and held on against a late barrage. Three midfielders stood out for the double blues with Supercheapgiants (34 disposals, 122 DT), cats_09 (32 disposals, 113 DT) and beez (28 disposals, 90DT) all starring, as did ruck bone2468 (22 disposals, 14 hit outs) and full forward Hydatina Physis (6.3). The Bombers were well served by Kilroy, snozulu, WAbulldog and ArdentEagle who each topped 20 disposals.

Roys FFC 13.12 (90) defeat Gold City Royals 8.4 (52)

Another Roys win and this one confirms a wooden spoon for the Royals. SpecialBruce (27 disposals), 3KZ is Football (23 disposals), DERRINALPHIL (23 disposals) and Cats_R_Cool_4_Ever (17 disposals, 8 tackles) all could attract sim attention. They may all be overshadowed by Mooch who had another beautiful day as he kicked 6 further majors to continue their fabulous season. TasSixer and hotchilli were best for the vanquished with both getting 24 disposals while former Mobbenfuhrer winner, Crimson Azure, combined 17 disposals with 7 tackles.

East Side Hawks 18.8 (116) defeat Fighting Furies 9.13 (67)

The hungry Hawks continued their hot form, locked in a top two finish, and continue to give off Brisbane Lions early-2000s vibes. They were well served by boncer34 who kicked 8 straight and a trio of 24 disposal players- Tarkyn_24 , Loonerty and TY24, who also recorded 15 hot outs. For the Furies, Sab22 was tremendous with 21 disposals and 3 goals and TRUMAN#1 did his rucking best with 26 disposals and 13 hit outs.

Mount Buller Demons 16.6 (102) defeated by Wonders FFC 16.10 (106)

A thrilling Foundation Cup concludes Heritage Round as the Wonders needed all the strength of a Mark Latham handshake to hold onto their lead and take the win. Four Wonders topped 100DT as each put up eye-watering figures with ClarkeM (37 disposals), AnUltimateRessie (also 37), dogs105 (23 disposals, 17 hit outs) and Giant YoYo (17 disposals and 15 tackles) hard to separate. The Demons were well led by skipper Gralin (26 disposals, 3 goals), former skipper manangatang (25 disposals) and heavy hitter Proper Gander (24 disposals).

Ophidian Old Boys 13.8 (86) defeated by Mount Buller Demons 16.4 (100) at Spostwood Oval

Round fifteen was the Claytons Round of season 40 – if you don’t understand the reference then find someone that’s old and was ahead of the fake alcoholic drink curve. The Old Boys needed a win to absolutely guarantee finals qooty though not losing by a million points would also be enough, while a win for the Demons would see them secure the double chance. And it was the home team with the better of the first quarter kicking five goals to three, with two goals in a minute from Gralin the only thing stopping a good quarter becoming a great quarter.

The Dees pegged the margin back to a single point at the half before pulling away in the third with six goals to two to reach the final turn 24 points to the good. The Ophidians rallied early in the fourth, and when Braklet saluted at the 21 minute mark they retook the lead. The comeback shagged them out though, as the Mountain Men went BANG BANG BANG in the final 90 seconds to come away with a 14 point win.

It was a pretty even spread of contributors across both sides. DemonJim (21 disposals/9 marks/3 tackles) perhaps edged things for the victors with jmoo wan (20 disposals/3 goals/2 tackles), Proper Gander (17 disposals/5 tackles), tomcruise (23 disposals/5 marks/2 tackles), Bluelegs (15 disposals/6 marks/2 tackles/3 goals), Yakker (5 goals), tgrs (18 disposals/4 marks), moginie (15 disposals/4 marks/1 goal) & Gralin (13 disposals/2 goals) all worthy contributors. thewizardmelon (22 disposals/14 hitouts/4 tackles) was the best for the vanquished while sabso (21 disposals/7 marks), Mrs Turbo (15 disposals/4 marks/1 goal), Braklet (12 disposals/4 tackles/1 goal), @Juddgement Day (13 disposals/6 marks) & gab213 (3 goals) could also hold their heads high.

Sin City Swamprats 19.14 (128) defeated by Ophidian Old Boys 21.19 (145) at the Underground Stadium

After a short turn around time the Ophidians backed up with a trip Underground to face a Swamprats outfit who had a remote chance of securing the double chance, a chance which spurred them to a quick start in what became a shootout. The Sinners went to a game high 30 point lead in the first quarter before that was halved at the first change, then dropped to five points at the half as the Old Boys got going. Five goals apiece in the third made for a grandstand finish, however nobody told the Swamprats as the Old Boys kicked seven of the last nine goals to salute by 18 points.

It was a big day for the full forwards, with TheGoatBaron kicking 7.4 in a losing cause while gab213 would be dirty with his 4.5 effort. But full forwards don’t normally get Mobbs votes, so you’re probably likely to see thewizardmelon (23 disposals/19 hitouts/8 tackles/a very inaccurate 0.5) & Braklet (19 disposals/6 tackles/1 goal/another 7 frees for) to feature with noteworthy performances from Elton Johns Wig (26 disposals/8 marks/2 tackles/1 goal), Fleabane (29 disposals/4 marks/3 tackles/1 goal), sabso (19 disposals/3 tackles), manicpie (25 disposals/5 marks/2 tackles), @Juddgement Day (6 goals), Wacky Tiger (a Michelle), Mrs Turbo (23 disposals/7 marks) and King Tenz (18 disposals/3 marks/2 goals).

Meanwhile the best for the hosts were jackster83 (21 disposals/9 marks/2 tackles/2 goals), SweetD (16 disposals/6 tackles), Slingshot Footy (26 disposals/4 marks/2 goals), MP_ (23 disposals/2 tackles/1 goal) & Jewelsbon (16 disposals/12 hitouts/1 goal).

Baghdad Bombers 16.15 (111) defeat Roys FFC 14.14 (98) at Abdu Prison

They Roys came into this round 16 match looking to maintain a double chance leading into finals as they travelled to Baghdad to face a Bombers team playing for pride. And things were going to script early doors as fitzroybowiedog kicked the first goal in the opening minute on their way to a six goal to three opening stanza. That script got flipped tuned upside down in the second however, as the hosts put on six goals to the visitors’ two to lead by ten points at the half. The third quarter was pretty even thanks to some Roy inaccuracy which proved crucial one the fat lady got going, the eventual 13 point margin got the home inmates up and about.

There were no glaring individual standouts for either side however those that did alright for the hosts were Raz (20 disposals/11 hitouts/2 tackles/2 goals), Saint Kidding (24 disposals/3 marks/3 tackles), Kilroy (20 disposals/4 marks/2 tackles/1 goal) & JoeldTrafford (16 disposals/5 marks/3 goals) while Grav and norway blue kicked three goals each. And the Gorillas were well served by DERRINALPHIL (24 disposals/9 hitouts/2 tackles/1 goal), royboy2 (10 disposals/5 tackles/2 goals), Phar Ace (19 disposals/7 marks/2 tackles) & Cats_R_Cool_4_Ever (19 disposals/3 tackles/2 goals), while Chezzalenko Reborn ( 4goals) & fitzroybowiedog (3 goals) did the bulk of the damage up front.

Las Vegas Bears 8.6 (54) defeated by Coney Island Warriors 16.8 (104) at the Stadium In The Sky

Summer had started early at the Stadium In The Sky, as the Warriors went there for the second time this season because the fixture was haunted and both teams were out of finals contention. With nothing to play for they played anyway, with an even first quarter turning into the visitors pulling away from the hosts at snailesqe pace in the middle two quarters before putting their foot on the proverbial pedal, kicking six last quarter goals to one to end the game 50 points in the black in a case of what could have been, keeping @harry000’s perfect season intact (if only he rejoined earlier in the season!).

I’ll be surprised if the Mobbs votes for this one culminate with 3 votes spudmaster as the potato laid a massive 12 tackles to go with 10 disposals and a goal. Others in persimmon to do well include jannissary (23 disposals/8 marks/3 tackles), Reginald Perrin (17 disposals/7 marks/3 goals), Barrybran (17 disposals/10 hitouts/5 tackles) & Smoooothy (18 disposals/5 marks/1 goal), while pocket dynamos zackah & ubiquitous226 kicked four goals each. The hosts on the other hand were well served by @Electronic Renaissance (23 disposals/8 marks), Matera92 (20 disposals/11 hitouts/4 tackles/1 goal), RonnieRaven (19 disposals/5 marks/2 tackles), Chipmunk (19 disposals/3 marks/2 tackles), Millky95 (13 disposals/6 tackles) & Art Vandelay_ (a Michelle).

Wonders FFC 12.10 (82) defeated by Dragons FFC 14.12 (96) at the Colosseum

The clash at the Colosseum between the Wonders and Dragons wasn’t exactly a high stakes one as both had qualified for finals, but the winner had a chance to slide their way into the top four. And it was the visitors who started the brighter, going out to a two goal lead early on before the hosts turned things around and led by the same margin at the half. Things tightened up by three quarter time with the Dragons taking the slenderest of leads before icing the game in the dying stages, ending up 14 points to the good.

Hatchy1992 did his Mobbs chances no harm with a 20 disposal/10 tackle game as did Bradesmaen (16 disposals/8 tackles/7 frees for/1 goal) while PhenomenalV1 (6 goals), Mooresome (19 disposals/10 marks/3 tackles), Strigoi (29 disposals/2 hitouts/3 marks), Blaze Storm (20 disposals/8 marks/1 goal), Ligma (20 disposals/8 marks/1 goal) & Drizzy (19 disposals/5 marks/1 goal) all made bank. So huge numbers in the Wonders list as well led by Pamcake1 (27 disposals/9 tackles/6 frees for/1 goal), Giant YoYo (20 disposals/8 tackles), AnUltimateRessie (28 disposals/10 marks/1 goal), HARPSichord (29 disposals/7 marks/1 goal), @gogs105 (21 disposals/12 hitouts), Coopers (22 disposals/7 marks), BigChippa52 (20 disposals/6 marks), Roonescape (17 disposals/4 marks/3 tackles/1 goal) & okeydoke7 (3 goals).

Fighting Furies 19.9 (123) defeat Gumbies FFC 15.9 (99) at rfctigerarmy’s hippodrome

The ladder leading Gumbies faced a trip to the hippodrome to cement the minor premiership. In their way were the second from bottom Furies who had only saluted thrice in season 40 after ditching their thousand captains approach of the season before. And when the first two goals went the way of the Gumbies it looked like more of the same, however the Furies hung around like a bad smell in the first half to see the scores level at the first two breaks. That all changed in the second half as the bad smell turned good, as the hosts put on eleven second half goals to seven to claim a famous 24 point victory.

The victors were led by the likes of Pickitt (29 disposals/4 marks/2 tackles/1 goal), TRUMAN#1 (16 disposals/18 hitouts/3 tackles/3 goals), Greenery (16 disposals/6 tackles/2 goals) & Sab22 (16 disposals/7 marks/1 goal) while ShaunDuggan and SplintWhisky also kicked three goals each, and for the vanquished it was Hydatina Physis who stole the show up front with eight majors while Mop (21 disposals/5 marks/3 tackles), Supercheapgiants (20 disposals/7 tackles), GWS Goose (16 disposals/7 tackles), cats_09 (19 disposals/13 hitouts/3 tackles/1 goal), beez (17 disposals/6 marks/3 tackles) & Falconista (18 disposals/7 marks) all did their part.

Gold City Royals 11.6 (72) defeated by East Side Hawks 22.13 (145) at the Golden Throne

The Gumbies loss opened the door for the two time defending champion Hawks to yoink the minor premiership, needing a huge win to overtake the plasticinies in both points and percentage. The good news for them was that they were up against a Royals outfit at the tail end of a historically bad season. And for once the script was adhered to, with a 24 point quarter time lead stretching to 41 at half time, 52 at three quarter time and eventually 73 at the final siren – a win large enough to overtake the Gumbies by 0.2% and finish the home and away season king in the castle.

@boner34’s eight goals almost match the Royals total thanks to silver service from cats2rise (27 disposals/10 marks/1 goal), TY24 (29 disposals/9 hitouts/2 tackles/1 goal), The Blue Weirdo (17 disposals/7 tackles/2 goals), Tarkyn_24 (19 disposals/6 tackles/1 goal), Loonerty (23 disposals/3 marks) & SM (13 disposals/4 marks/3 tackles/3 goals). While for the Gold Citizens Robertio (24 disposals/20 hitouts/3 tackles/1 goal), grumbleguts (25 disposals/8 marks/1 goal) & TasSixer (21 disposals/3 tackles/2 goals) while recent signing Ultranium led the scoring with three goals.

But the most interesting stat lines here belonged to the two leading tacklers in season 40, and as we know tacklers win Mobbs. And in this case Cadsky (27 disposals/5 tackles/1 goal) may have just pipped reigning Mobbs Medallist Crimson Azure (22 disposals/5 tackles/4 frees for) in this match. Will that be telling at the end of the count? Over to you Gralin
