The brewing brouhaha between former Tiger, Andrew Gaze, and the former Tiger of a different variety, KB, came to a crashing halt when the ill-prepared and statistically erroneous Gaze went to the debating table today and found himself on the end of a verbal tomahawk dunk from the SEN’s incorrigible veteran gabbler.

KB sets up Gaze with a little taunting over the airwaves:

I want to play some audio from Andrew Gaze, going into the break; he gave me a big whack this morning along with Andy Maher. He said some ridiculous things! I want to have a chat with Andrew Gaze so hopefully we can get a call through to Andrew. I just feel I’ve got to defend myself, and I think he’s actually got to try and tell us, you know, where he’s coming from because I think some of the comments he’s made, you know, I think he’s insane.

[Gaze Audio]
Kevin Bartlett, we love him to death. He’s an institution here in SEN land and throughout Victoria, and I dare say Australia. So no personal disrespect to the great man but I’m putting him in the basket as a loser because he clearly has no any [sic] slight comprehension of the sport of Basketball on the basis of these peculiar comments:
[KB audio]
I’ve always thought that [the dunk] it’s overrated because these guys are 6’8” or 6’10” or 7-foot, and in fact one guy, Dwight Howard I was told by Jonny Ralph that he can actually stand and jump and actually touch the top of the backboard, so to actually dunk the ball I would think for a man of that size, I don’t think it takes an amount of skill.
[Gaze audio]
Well, not any more stupid comments could you ever hear regardless of how tall someone is. And this is on the back of one of the most extraordinary athletic feats you’ll ever wanna see on any sporting arena; on Blake Griffin’s dunk which he did against the Oklahoma City Thunder. It was one of the most extraordinary athletic feats you’ve ever seen and no matter what size you are there are a lot of seven-foot blokes running around that can’t dunk the ball. The co-ordination, the athlet-e-cins [sic] required to do that is just phenomenal. And it is why the dunk is the most spectacular part of the game of basketball. And for KB to suggest that it is easy – well?

KB: Andrew Gaze is going to join me, above the rim, that’s where Andrew Gaze spent most of his life – above the rim. He said some stupid things this morning on Morning Glory. I just played it before we went to the break. No comprehension whatsoever; they even suggested that I hate basketball and that’s a ridiculous comment. I’m a devil’s advocate; I’m not a cheerleader; and then for Andrew Gaze to say that this guy Blake Griffin was the most extraordinary feat ever seen. Now – and then he went on to say the dunking is the most spectacular part of basketball. I would suggest to Andrew that if dunking is the most spectacular part of basketball, basketball is stuffed, as a game. He joins us on line. Andrew, Good Morning.

No. 10: [LOL] I think, KB, you’re putting a few words in my mouth-
No. 29: NO I’m not! No I’m not. I can replay it for you.

No. 10: I’m not sure. I think Blake Griffin’s dunk was extraordinary. It was an extraordinary display-
No. 29: Ever seen, you said.

No. 10: Well I’m not sure about that. Ahhh, an extraordinary piece of athleticism combined with; if you’ve seen Lebron James the other day when they threw up the alley-oop and he actually jumped over John Lucas, the little fella and dunked the ball. I mean these are the most spectacular parts of basketball which displays the athleticism. And for an astute man like yourself, KB, I can not believe you cannot appreciate and respect the athletic feats that these players are able to perform. It’s extraordinary stuff-
No. 29: Yes I do. I do. The alley-oop I think is fantastic and to me the alley-opp is far greater than some bloke seven foot just dunking the ball. The alley-opp, you’ve got two guys combining, one throwing the ball from maybe 10/12 metres out, at height and range, and another guy having to judge his run, leap in the air at the same time over the basket, so it’s a combination of two guys. I think the alley-oop which you did with Lanard Copeland was absolutely fantastic, and to me that is a very exciting part of basketball but having some-

No. 10: Oh, no doubt. That is true but-
No. 29: But having some lamppost just putting his ball in the net.

(The NBA naïve KB hands Gazey a plethora of Lob City references on a silver plate [CP3 to Griffin and Jordan] but the one-track minded Gazey is asleep at the debating wheel: is dunk – is good - is extraordinary)

No. 10: What about then, KB, you’ve got a guy 6’10” going up against another guy 6’10” and he’s able to rise up above the rim and throw the ball down into the hoop while maintaining his balance off two steps?
No. 29: Well for starters, for starters, Andrew, the guy he’s jumping over can’t do anything about it ‘cause he’s going to foul so put that to one side. That’s absolutely folly what you said then. That is ridiculous. He’s just standing there like a lamppost, can’t do anything about it and he doesn’t even have to jump, he doesn’t even have to jump. He just puts his hand up. Jonny [as in Voight] Ralph told me Dwight Howard touches the top of the backboard.

No. 10: Well, can we not at least marvel and respect that. I mean that is a man of extraordinary ability that can get up and touch the top of the backboard. That is a feat that very few people can achieve regardless of how tall you are.

[Jon (“LeBaron”) Ralph jokes that Gaze marvels at dunking because he was lacking in that ability]

No. 10: That is one hundred percent spot on. I can appreciate how difficult it is and that one occasion that all the stars aligned and I was able to rise above was just one of those freakish incidents where things went right for me. But, ah, anyone that has been on a basketball court, and I would be astounded if you are not getting worried with this one, KB, because anyone that’s been on a court, even if you don’t like the game … think the game is rubbish, but you can still acknowledge and appreciate the act and the skill that is involved in dunking the ball. It’s as simple as that.
No. 29: I don’t think the game is rubbish; I think it’s a terrific game. I think it’s going through some very, very tough times and as we said with Patrick, it’s probably tier five, which is in the losers’ category at the moment because unfortunately that’s a fact of life. But I’d love to see it come good and that’s your job, as being on the board of directors of Basketball Australia to make things happen.

No. 10: Well KB, good things are happening with the NBL. Phenomenal response this season from attendances. Attendances are up enormously and so are the TV ratings, despite having some challenges because of the time slot it’s currently in. Despite having those challenges it’s still up on the numbers that were there last year. [H]as some momentum despite the doomsayers like yourself that want to lay your boots into the game. I think it’s holding up and standing up on its merits because it’s such a beautiful game that it is
No. 29: Well I think you’ve got to get away from mediocrity and you’ve got to have your reference points; ya reference points once drew fifteen thousand at Rod laver arena, ya talking two-and-a-half thousand now; so you’ve got list the reference points; ya on One HD, it’s 10:30pm at night, three replayed games. Now I don’t know what your reference point for TV ratings but we can discuss that another time. Ya can’t put mayonnaise on all the time. I know you’re passionate but, you may not know all the answers. Kids are playing it but it doesn’t translate beyond that. That’s what I’m saying. It’s a great game but there’s some challenges there.

No. 10: There’s no doubt there’s some challenges. Some significant ones at that. No-one disputing that but it does present some problems when people like yourself inaccurately report what has been happening over the last season or two. It does present some challenges and people like yourself that-
No. 29: I haven’t reported any inaccuracies whatsoever!

No. 10: Well, you’re talking the game down when in fact-
No. 29: That’s not an inaccuracy.

No. 10: It is. If you absolutely say it’s on a downward slide or it’s doomed because, I’m not sure how you’re judging it but certainly from, like I say, from those very objectively measurable statistics where you’re saying “what are your attendances?” Certainly on the rise. “What are the TV ratings been recently?” Certainly making some progress despite some difficulties facing the time slot. So by using that as a criteria you say well things are on the rise. If you want to look at the financial stability of the clubs? Very, very challenging. No disputing that; very, very difficult. But relative to where they were a few years ago, much, much healthier. So there’s a lot of indicators that suggesting that the game is actually on the upwards scale, not how you have seen (sic?) to be presenting it the past couple of times I’ve heard you say it’s on a downhill slide. And that is completely utterly incorrect.
No. 29: O.K., well, we can debate that longer but I’ll give you a break and you can whack me again tomorrow.

Andrew Gaze’s debating performance, “despite some difficulties” was, not exactly, “extraordinary” or “phenomenal” and enormous like the NBL’s attendances and TV ratings. Good grief, No. 10! Try selling bridges. Or next time at least throw in the St Mary’s crew having their games on ESPN TV all the time.

In the nuances of American basketball history the alley-oops and dunks by phenom, Griffin and DeAndre Jordan symbolize far more than extraordinary athletic efforts. For the ill-suffering fans of the LA Clippers, one of America’s all-time laughing stock pro sports franchises who plays in the shadows of one of the world’s most famous franchises, the LA Lakers; Griffen’s dunks/alley-oops/throwdowns symbolize the once perpetual underdog making a statement that he cannot and will not be denied. Fast becoming the best reality show on US TV.

Blake Griffen’s awesome posterizing throwdown in the face of Kendrick Perkins has relieved Timofey Mozgoz et al. of a decade of posterized infamy, and as debates go, KB has pulled Andrew Gaze’s pants down, spanked him, and left him looking like Craig Ehlo on a Michael Jordan poster.

Extraordinary!

What bugs me more is bloody Radar and his O.S. soccer scores!! AAAAAGH!! Who gives a stuff? Not me, matey :D "Inter Milano Blur de Blur verses Selle Italia Pour fa Vour..." Who cares?!?!!
It's a sports station. Very silly thing to say.

No sense of humour? Fair enough; we're not all alike. Jeez, and I even used a 'grinny' emoticon. :D
Ok, I'll be serious, just for you. :p

Are SEN a boring score service, or the "Sports Entertainment Network"? He just picks out some game that he's just watched over Gazey's shoulder.

Where does it stop? Why doesn't Radar read out scores from all the major OS leagues? They could sit there reading out overseas soccer scores for the whole show, which wouldn't be much fun. BORE--RING! Then they could go through all the OS basketball scores, etc, etc. It's just Radar showing his EPL bias. If it was up to him, his show would be all footy, golf and EPL. HA! :p

Malvern East definitely, or is it Doncaster?

That's dangerous, don't you think.

He doesn't even come on this thread, he wants us to meet him?

They will be at the New Pancake Parlor cnr Warrigal Road and Peverill street Malvern East

Teo must read the posts in this thread that have had a dig at him , as on last nights show he said for them to come along to the Pancake Parlor , he was just having a small dig at some of the detractors in this thread , it's all good though.

Teo is good value.

Have to agree....I love Peaky and all his eccentric ways, but listening last night was ridiculous!....The way he went on at Howard Lee about the Hogg apology was just crazy, and a few minutes later it was on again about the above!!..

It becomes a little bit too much on the ears after a while.....I really don't think they should be on together anymore, because it has got past the stage of being good radio!.....plus Steven J. is going to have a heart attack one day, at that rate..

some of the most pointless radio ive ever heard.

howard spoke about and aricle citing dean jones belief that CA are 24 mill in debt. the next 10 mins consisted of peake yelling about where this info was gathered from.

Yes Peakey was weird last night , he spent the first 20 mins of the show on the Rodney Hogg twitter gate issue and apology , and then he must have asked Howard Leigh what his opinion on the matter was , Howard didn't want to get involved and said his opinion didnt matter because Hogg had apologized and told Peakey that at least a half a dozen times or more , then the first talkback caller gets on line to give his opinion and Peakey stops him from repeating what was said in the Hogg twitter rant and his opinion on the issue , I thought Peakey was all about facts and substance ?

Howard L also said during the show that he saw an article in the Herald Sun where the St Kilda lawyer Sarah Galbally had moved on from the club , do you think Peakey believed him. Not until said article was found on the Daily Telegraph website 15 minutes later , which said what Howard had said earlier did Peakey seem to accept it as truth.

how did peake get a gig?

Have no idea...A Saints supporter??;)..

....but seriously, I usually thoroughly enjoy Peakey at anytime, particularly with Finey.....however when he's with Howard Lee, his blood pressure rises sky high, and he's ready to blow a fuse..

They definately do NOT get along and it comes across on radio..its time to separate the two IMO....never to be heard of again in the same show..

Peakey doesn't seem to have a problem with H. Cotton or others he does shows with, just H. Lee..

Time to go Mr Lee.

You guys only have yourselves to blame. How can you ever stomach that idiot Pukey? Such a toss bag, I find myself turning off when he's on.
