Just saw this thread and thought i'd put in a few general comments.

Beva After Dark is now the single best show on SEN, by a fair way. He and Mark Fine's passion shows through in what i consider to be the 3 main sports: AFL, Soccer, Cricket. No other show has that.

Mark Doran tries hard, but i dont find that he has much substance or direction with what he says.

Run Home is so much better without Matt Hardy and Dermott. Great show.

Morning Glory is still a mess.

Schebecci is getting more likable, or im getting more tolerant.

The weekend graveyard shift is alot better though, their knowledge is so much better, especially with soccer which is good considering all the leagues play during that time.

Liam Pickering could be the next person to get a main gig, he's been great, while all the other ex-footballers are pretty stock standard to me.

have to agree on pickering. i think you will find the ox has alot to say sen these days as well.

Up 0.4 [I think]
That must be why the silence from RippedOff is so deafening. ;)

iirc, they're getting close to an overall rating of 3 in the latest survey. The good thing about their latest ratings is that they reflect the quality of the show (i.e. the dreadful 'Morning Glory' show is now the lowest rating of the regular weekday shows.)

Also agree with mulhollanddrive's assessment on the shows that I listen to. The Run Home has really settled into a good groove this year - I didn't think Schwarz/Hudson would work out as a combo at the beginning but it's turned out to be an improvement on its predecessor with 'the soapbox' segment being a particularly good new addition. Matt Hardy was good initially but had worn his out welcome by the time of his departure while Dermott was good value on AFL but didn't add much outside of that.

Matt Thompson has been an excellent regular addition to the station as their main reporter as well.

as long as he sticks to reporting and not hosting shows on a sunday morning. he sounds like a little smartarse who has never pulled on a sporting shoe in his life.........the type of fat twirp who deserves a punch in the gob.

jub jub , my north ...nice to see you are taking an interest in me.
I have not really thought about posting tha much and I think it is great that sen went up in the ratings , i looked at them the other day and every single show ( weekend were only ones that let the sen team down ) went up like you said.
I have often said good things about sen in many of my posts and i still hang out at many of the haunts that sen staff get to and see many current sen people.
And believe it or not I am actually hoping that with the AFL rights coming to sen that alot of former staff like myself might get back there to work again this time with the joint cashed up and reliable in that dept.

is it a fore gone conclusion the sen will be calling the afl next year?

Its out of them and 3AW.

And looking at the latest rating 3AW will be doing everything possible to keep them.

SEN will be doing the AFL next season.

My AFL source has confirmed it and obviously rippedoff has had much the same thing said to him by the SEN people.

They will never have the first choice game though.
Correct rippedoff ?

Not under the current deal.

Many believe that 3AW owners will not cough up the cash. They are famously tight.

Mike Sheahan Article- June 8th.

"The radio rights are expected to be finalised within six weeks, with the stakes high for established broadcasters and newcomer SEN.

The current figure, less than $1 million nationally per year, is expected to jump with SEN, an exclusive sports channel believed to be committed to securing a share of the rights.

The station's general manager, Barry Quick, told the Herald Sun last week he had met with AFL executives.

"It's really very, very early in this whole process," he said at the time.

"I don't think it's any secret SEN has submitted an expression of interest, along with pretty well every other station, I suspect.

"I can't go into the nature of the discussions."

3AW's Graham Mott said at the time: "The AFL has asked us to put an expression of interest in, and we did that and we haven't heard a thing, apart from a couple of questions about regional stations."

Neither Quick nor Mott would comment on speculation the AFL planned to break up the broadcast rights, with, for example, a package of specifically Saturday afternoon matches in Victoria.

The speculation also suggests the AFL is looking at the possibility of an arrangement with SEN that would give it a level of equity in the station.

Industry sources say the AFL says it has failed to maximise the value of broadcast rights in the past."

Crikey, haven't really had a chance to hear to much of Mark Doran in the past few months, but geez, he's an ordinary broadcaster. The whole AFLPA vs gay webiste story he was running with today was something you would expect Neil Mitchell would make a fuss about. By the way, who would have thought that when Francis Leach left, he would manage to find a station rating worse than SEN? (He's on Vega FM - there is a very good chance you may not have heard of that station)

It was great to hear The Run Home during the breakfast shift over the past couple of weeks - particularly with the World Cup on. While they are obviously not soccer experts, they are at least open to learning about the game. Unlike those clowns in Brownless and Watson who have since returned.

Still loving Beva After Dark (added bonus when Mark Fine joins up with Bruce Eva on Sunday nights) and the Four Diegos.

Genuine danger of falling asleep at the wheel when listening to Mark Doran

Its not how much money they are 'making', its how much money they have access to.

Newton read my thread from a few weeks ago about mark dorans reputation at SEN.
Anthony Hudson who never says boo or upsets anyone and always sits on the fence , chose one of the first days doran was away in germany to tell all of the run home listeners that Doran was one of the worst people to get along with in the SEN workplace .
As I said Hudson never criticises anyone so stood out when he said it
