When I was little I always used to play SimCity 2000 and absolutely loved it.

At uni I am doing Urban, Rural and Environmental Planning and in first year, my lecturer was talking about SimCity so I downloaded SC 2000 again for a bit of fun.

I just ordered SimCity 4 cause it was mentioned a few weeks ago at uni. It looks alot more detailed than 2000 and looks more indepth at planning aspects from what ive read... Does anyone have it? Is it good?

I dont think any child growing up in the 80s or 90s would have gone through life without playing these games at one stage or another!

I read they released another one in 2007 (or 2008?) but it was pretty average.

What do you all think about the series?

I read

simcity 4 was great. it is much more in depth (recommend the add on pack that comes with it too if you haven't got that all ready)

I loved all those Sim type games growing up. Sim City, Zoo Tycoon, Sim Safari, Sim Golf. Funnily enough I didn't really like The Sims. Those games and Football Manager were the only games I really played on computer.

I played simcity 2000. Great fun building cities, then spamming those giant alien walker things. Good times, good times....

The Sim City series was great.
Looking forward to Cities XL to come out. It's made by different people, but looks great.

Wow! Had not heard of that till you posted that. It says its only going to be released in French and German though...

I always wanted to recreate Melbourne street by street(Would've been EPIC). Would get about 10 minutes in and would just be like..."**** it, raise the water level and send in earthquakes, cyclones, UFO's, etc. etc."

Fun game.

I had heaps of fun playing that game. It was a very addictive game and I had a great time building a huge array of different cities (small and large). I still play it occasionally and love to relive the magic.

SimCity 4 was certainly the most in depth of the lot IMO.

It will be in English as well. Says so in the FAQS.
They've only announced the French and German release date and not the English version as yet.

Hoping to get selected for the Beta as I registered for it ages ago and they are now selecting those participants, fingers crossed.

I remember playing Sim City and always added the stadium that looked exactly like the MCG. I pretended it was a cricket or footy ground even though it had a baseball field in it. :p

personally, i don't believe the sim series every topped the original sim city. certainly, it got more popular, more in depth, and better in every way that games develop.

but i loved the simplicity of the first version.

its a funny game though... to this day, i doubt i've found a game that ever got me so involved. when u had a natural disaster, the agony was excruciating.

it's only now, looking back, that i question what the pay off was. not having a natural disaster?

seems like such a pointless game in hindsight!
