As I look into my old hessian bag of prime Pontiac spuds, I see that every spud has a name written on it:

"Spud" Bate
"Spud" Bartram
"Spud" Newton
"Spud" Davey
"Spud" Green
"Spud" Macdonald
"Spud" Warnock
"Spud" Rivers
"Spud" Morton ( biggest in the bag.....almost size of two spuds )
"Spud" Spencer

Few other spuds at the bottom of the bag, that I can just see......but still a bit green ....give them time and they will transform into big juicy Pontiacs.

All the above are primed and ready for the next deep frying session known as "Trade Time".

Feel free to add into the bag.

Pity there is no 'spud' draft for crap posters but I assume someone with 'AFL is number one' as their username is 10 years old or has the IQ of room temperature..

I'd love to see you go one on one with any of these blokes. I dare you to tell Barts or Joel Mac to their face that their spuds. Coward!

Any player who has spent time on an AFL list is not a spud.

Hey I'm all for calling players out but this is a bit over the top and not really constructive at all. Were you the same person cheering and spraying love all the place when Green was booting his bags last year? Or when Flash was chasing down opponents? Or when Spencer was... oh wait

I bet it took him all day to think of his little anecdotes for the thread too. He deserves something for the effort... doesn't he? No? Fair enough...

You know what I'd like to see? Posters actually defending the players instead of having pot shots at other posters who they don't agree with.

I don't agree with Bartram, we know he can't kick like many others at the club, I think everything else he has done has been very good. In his last 3 weeks he's beaten Kerr and Cotchin and I think he done a pretty good job on containing Ablett who is generally unstoppable.

I don't agree with Green, he's had a poor year but he did win the B&F last year so he shouldn't be thrown on the scrap heap yet.

The rest I generally agree with. Davey is a lost cause, Morton has got a big ? on him and while Rivers is not a genuine spud he shouldn't be in the team. McDonald gave us something that we don't get with Rivers and that's run and carry, Rivers form has been average at best since he got a bath on Queen's Birthday.

Guys,...relax and take some chill pills. ( Some funny comments in there though )

Only one bloke ( the Stinger ) seems to have understood the gist of my post.

All I was doing was trying to get some discussion/debate happenning. So what if I did call them "Spuds"...big deal...I have seen a lot worse lingo from some of you blokes ,against our boys on these forums.

Anyway, I still think they deserve that tag.

Make no mistake...our team has let us down badly this season....even after yesterday's shallow vistory against a bunch of kids, Tod V put the season into perspective with his pre match comments. Green's nice sub vest was a prime example of Viney showing us how angry he felt. Green was lucky to get a game.

I am glad he kicked some yesterday...but gee he is well short of goals this year....well short.

I have followed the Dees for that long, that when I see overpaid blokes like Bartram, get to this level and cannot for the life of me, drill a ball through the posts ,from 30 metres...I get frustrated, angry etc etc.

OK..so I called them spuds....wow...how dare I?

How about you guys defending these blokes then ?...and show why they don't deserve to go into the bag. Pretty hard task I would think...if you were serious about the exercise.

Go Dees.

There is irony all over the place in this post...

Ok so heres a quick snapshot of some of your finest work in the last 2 weeks

McNamara: How he got a game ahead of Bail has got me stuffed? It was like watching Warnock or MacDonald play. Add him to the spud bag AFL!

Seb Tape: We could have lost if he wasn't out there. He is vying with Cook as the biggest mistake in the draft

JONES: Dumb footballer, trade him now before it's too late cos he won't be getting any better

MORTON: Trade him for anything cos he's 1 year away from being delisted.
SYLVIA: Selfish, lazy footballer who will never live up to expectations. Do it now or regret it later.

MARIC: Too small, soft, selfish and lazy. Enough reasons there to delist him

WONAEAMIRRI: Not committed, fat, lazy and slow, hasn't had a kick since his first year.

JETTA: Slow, no real talent that you would expect for an aboriginal

MACDONALD: Competing with Warnock as the dumbest footballer in the AFL.

WARNOCK: Worst footballer in the AFL, no one could possibly want this clown I don't know what you people see in him

Heres a ladder, i suggest you get down now off your high horse

OK, I'll bite.
"Spud" Bate - Has shown he could play a few years ago and definately too good for VFL level, but cannot replicate that at AFL level. Not really spudworthy but not a part of our plans going forward, I wouldn't think.

"Spud" Bartram - Can't kick, but doesn't do much else wrong. A very good tagger who always gives his all (which is more than you can say for many of our players)

"Spud" Newton - Not too much argument here. Repeatedly shown he just can't perform at this level.

"Spud" Davey - Shitehouse year from one of our best players of recent times. massively down on confidence and doesn't look like he knows what his role is. Give him a year under a new coach who knows what he's doing and we should be OK on this front. For those who criticise his leadership position, I'm under the impression he does an enormous amount of work off-field helping new players and our large indigenous cohort settle in. This year, he's had problems: coincidentally, so have Jurrah, Wonna, Jetta and Bennell...

"Spud" Green - Good player who's had a bad year, hasn't shown a hell of a lot of captaincy skills and seems in a bit of denial about it at times.

"Spud" Macdonald - Has had a phenominal year. His spot was in danger at the start of the year but has been a very good competitor and is now, if not in our best back 6, a very handy depth player. Shakey disposal and can have his off days, but so has Chip this year.

"Spud" Warnock - Clanger-merchant and can have a lot of frees paid against him, but can also keep gorilla FF types quiet better than most in our team. would be useful if he could kick at anything approaching an acceptable standard, but should and hopefully will be moved on at the end of the year.

"Spud" Rivers - One of the best at his business, can get absolutely monstered when played out of position. Pretty much single handedly won us the Essendon game with his spoiling and marking, has been quiet since. Not terribly flexible, but is still extremely useful.

"Spud" Morton - Horrendously lacking confidence. Has shown he has the tools to be an excellent AFL footballer, but only very rarely in the last couple of years. Needs an uninterrupted pre-season, a coach who can give him a defined role, and someone to pump him up both mentally and physically. Wouldn't be shattered if we get a first rounder or equivalent player for him, otherwise he hops into the last chance saloon next year.

"Spud" Spencer - Poor bloke's been injured since round 7, hardly enough time to be spudworthy. That said, I'd imagine Barry Prendergast has been looking at a few young ruckman for a later pick or rookie draft.
