The media will tell us this is not a 'go to' in the annual cycle of media but that is a nonsense. You can almost set your clock on when they pull out the folios of their own game plan within a year.
That said I'm buying in on the annual debate.
I'll put my hand up to being an evolutionist. Let the game play out.
Before we start fiddling with the idea of zones or reduction of players on the ground which is a huge shift and actually changes the game dramatically I'd rather look within the rules of the games themselves.
Want to get rid of congestion? Then I'd agree with Clarkson in umpiring when what we can clearly see as dropping the ball.
I'm not that get rid of the 'no prior' but I am one for giving a free for incorrect disposal.
Quit dropping the ball or knocked out in the tackle or however the umpires are calling it as a ball up and adding to congestion.
Give prior. However in other circumstances if you don't kick or handball then it's a free. Stop the dropping of the ball as soon as you smell a player on your tail or with hands on your body. Quit the knocked out in the tackle.
Congestion revolves around stoppages and within the laws of the game we have the interpretation to reduce stoppages without changing the essentials of the game by zones or reduced players.
That's my view. Discuss.
