Exactly my thoughts too mate! Unless we sign a big target man, we don't have anyone at the club who will thrive on long ball tactics. Especially when you consider we have a pretty good looking midfield, surely Pardew will try and get us playing on the deck with the options he has available to him? Further to that, we now seem to have a few players who can drill a nice cross in so let's try and use our pace and movement and whip in some crosses from time to time.

I'm a big fan of HBA as well mate, I really hope he stays (even if we lose him for nothing as a result). He loves the club and seems to have been alienated under Pardew despite still being a popular figure at the club and with many fans. Rare to see player's with his kind of technique and he is one who can legitimately change a game in an instant with his pace and dribbling. It's just annoying to see Pardew say things like he has a poor attitude or is unprofessional but this is coming from the same guy who headbutted a player last season! Surely he is the kind of player you have on the bench at the very least as he can come on and offer a definite spark.

I think I saw something a few days back where Ben Arfa's agent said they want to stay put (and made a point that Pardew might be gone in 2-3 months anyway if the team struggles. If a new manager comes in, you'd think everyone would get a clean slate).

One of my favourite whipping boys, Obertan is one who I'd like sold (especially ahead of Ben Arfa) - didn't he go AWOL last season at one point after not making the bench? In any case, he's done well in preseason with a goal and an assist in our last 3 friendlies. If Pardew is giving Obertan a reprieve and a second chance, why not Hatem as well?

Yeah it's amazing too considering their output for the team, Obertan has done NOTHING (true that he has had a pretty good pre season campaign) for the team but HBA has, at times, been clearly our best player..

I've not always been critical enough of Pardew but he has this one all wrong.

HBA is brilliant with the ball, he is creative and selfish but that's what's great about him. His footwork would be in the top 4 or 5 in the world! It's mind boggling how Pardew thinks, 8 months ago he was comparing HBA to Messi, he is a loop. For all that HBA brings there's so much that he lacks, he literally refuses to track back and goes missing for such large chunks of games, he is the Shaun Higgins of NUFC. Unfortunately it's time to move on, and if we can deal with Lyon ( where he was an academy player and played his first senior football) then that's the best outcome. We NEED Lacazette, the guy is top top shelf and is crazy quick and a great finisher.
 
Check this out if you want to start creaming your jocks, he could end up being one of the best strikers in the world make no mistake about it. I can't stress how much this guy will help us, I literally check the online news articles hourly haha

Looks good! Knowing us though he'd stay for a season or so and then get sold, haha.
 
Lacazette looks really good! Though, he hasn't really expressed much interest in joining has he? I wouldn't mind Remy either (who's proven in the PL) but he doesn't seem keen to come here unless its for money (remember he ditched us at the last min to join QPR for more cash...). Maybe a Ben Arfa plus cash deal for Lacazette deal would be a win for all parties? I love HBA to bits but he's going to waste away while Pardew is in charge, better for him to go to a club where he can hopefully play more regularly.
 
2-2 draw this morning vs Huddersfield. Riviere and Cabella with the goals. First run out for Janmaat. Geez, Pardew needs to sort out our CBs though - completely at sea and our big concern heading into the season...



Riviere seems to be a likely type to bring the goals but if he goes down, we could be in trouble. Another striker and a CB and I'd be over the moon! Our CBs look the weakest part of the team at present.

Lacazette would be a huge hit for our fans, he is arguably the best tackling striker in the world, he chases down everything and is a clinical finisher, the supporters would love him. Think of Gouffran and his work rate, add some more speed, more class and twice as clinical with his finishing! There is strong enough word to suggest we are in with a pretty good chance, and the French connection helps. PLEASE GOD

The Huddersfield game... wow, how embarrassing! If Curtis Good isn't starting come christmas time I will vomit, he is so far superior to Taylor and Mapou it's not even funny and even Colo is slowing. Like I said long term it looks bright, short term is very concerning. Should at least be entertaining.
 
If Huddersfield are putting 2 goals in against us, how are Man City going to go?? :eek:

You could be right tige - I think Cabella and Riviere in particular might help tempt Lacazette (not to mention Sissoko, HBA, Obertan, Haidara, Yanga Mbiwa, Abeid and young Kemen). I think Riviere said he has ambitions to become a full French international and the signing of Cabella was a reason for him ultimately joining (so he could feed off his playmaking abilities).

We can't offer Lacazette champions league (but it doesn't seem like any other clubs are interested in him/can offer him what he wants) but I think the club has shown some ambition this window by signing quite a few players! Pards and even De Jong have both said they want to aim for the CL (maybe a bit ambitious) but it's good to at least see the club wanting to aim high instead of just being content to finish top 10.

Liverpool were going either Remy or Lacazette, in the end went Remy and that obviously was a fizz. I haven't heard much from Liverpool on that front but you'd think if they came knocking he'd rather go there, in saying that we have been as aggressive as I can ever remember and Graham Carr is a master negotiator so who knows.

What is the word on Curtis Good? Man this guy is talented, he looks so compose in his international debut. A bit strong lad who is physical and mature, can't wait to see him play in the first team.

Remy Cabella is already showing his class, he seems to be a real creative and attacking type, loves a bit of space to work his magic in. Our midfield is one of the strongest in the league, if we can grab Lacazette then Europe is a chance. Forget CL until we fix our defensive issues! What's going on with Santon? A guy who was first choice full back for Italy 18 months ago is barely being mentioned in our first team plans, Haidara has gone past him? He must be struggling because Haidara is very raw and still an average defender.

Liverpool signed that young kid Origi so presumably, they only now would want to sign a big name to replace Suarez. Given a few of their fans saw Remy more as a backup than a starter for them, they'd probably be hoping for a big name (so perhaps Lacazette might not be seen as a 'big enough' name for them?). Certainly, we could offer him first team football (whereas at Liverpool, he'd probably have to be content with being a squad player and rotated).

No idea on good - I think he's still trying to work his way back from his injury which stopped his WC involvement (which is a big shame given Ange said he'd be a central player to his plans). I actually think a loan deal might be best for him - get regular minutes and try and build his fitness up so he can enter the frame for the Asian Cup - that would certainly be preferable to playing reserves where he is probably going to be behind Colo, Willo, Yanga and Taylor for a spot in defence (plus Dummett can play there too I think).

Santon's out with an injury (has definitely missed a lot of football in the last 12 or so months). Haidara is quite raw but I do like him going forward and he seems a bit more technically gifted than Dummett. He's started most of the friendlies at LB so perhaps Pardew sees him as his best LB for the start of the season. We really are spoilt for options at LB with Santon, Haidara, Dummett, the returning Ryan Taylor and even forgotten Shane Ferguson all able to play there (plus even Gutierrez if the club hangs onto him lol).

Our CBs are the big worry for me - we'll need Tiote and (probably) Sissoko (though Colback and Anita probably also duking it out) to really provide a lot of cover and shielding for our defenders. If Yanga doesn't play, none of our other CBs have much pace and might be cut up by the speedsters in the league...
 
Colback has played quite a bit of left back IIRC. Who knows where Pardew is going to play anyone, he seems to make it up as he goes along.

He has which adds to his versatility! I wasn't too keen on Colback but I'm warming to him. Can also take set pieces if Cabella and De Jong can't. Has done quite well in preseason. With Pardew though, he could just as easily throw him up front and tell the lads to 'hoof it to the ginger target' :D

What do you guys reckon our starting 11 and formation will be for the City game? Season is only 10 days away!

Tiote the true holding midfielder, and lad Do NOT SHOOT, your goal against the gunners was a fluke, stop thinking that gives you the god given right to ping at them from 20 feet.

I think we have also played a 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 at times this season - if we get Lacazette, him Riviere, Cabella and De Jong would all be very exciting for us going forward - Riviere and Cabella both have a bit of pace on them (as does Gouff), throw in Lacazette and it'd be terrifying for defenders to see those guys running at you at speed!

Agree on Tiote as well haha (though he does get the odd cracker shot in - didn't he have a goal incorrectly disallowed against City last season or am I thinking of someone else?)

Wow really?!? Any idea on the fee mate? Guessing $15m ish? If we land him, It'll be out of Cabella and him for my new top - maybe if our third kit is decent, I'll get the other name on that (our grey away kit is pretty bland IMO).

15 Mill is the word, it's now up to the chiefs to get the guy to agree to come.

I've been absolutely burnt with my jersey buys, I had Owen and Carroll and was going to get Cabaye last season but thought better of it, LUCKY! Lacazette will be getting the nod if he signs otherwise I will probably go Cabella to.

Hopefully the other French lads can convince him to come across. Surely Pardew is fluent in French by now?

Yeah definitely hard to choose a jersey, players move on too quick. I guess an Ameobi one could have covered you for a long time... :p

Haha well given your track record tige, maybe you should consider getting Obertan this season :p

Is that $15m plus Ben Arfa - would be great if we could knock some of the price off with Benny going back to Lyon (where he'll at least get game time).

Fingers crossed rob! I think the club have a pretty good reputation in France so hopefully the signings we've made and the other French lads can tempt Lacazette that joining us would be a great step in the right direction.
