Following satisfactory contract extension from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar of Schalke 04 have received a deplorable news in personnel planning: Lewis Holtby informed the club that he said he's offering to extend his 30 June 2013 expiring contract does not accept, but the club is rather left to the end of the season. "We wished that Lewis and his future on the season out with FC Schalke 04 looks. But like Klaas-Jan now he has made a personal decision that we respect, "said Sports Board Horst Heldt. "We are sure that he will give up to the last day of the season everything we can to make the sporting success of our team's contribution."

What are Everton's chances? It would make for a top class midfield, Everton fan as a kid i believe as well. Surely they would be more attractive than Liverpool to him

Have heard him speak positively about Everton and Arsenal in the past, either of the two would be possible, Arsenal probably the favourites.

He was definitely keen on a premier league move when I heard him last.

Arsenal are probably the favourites, but apparantly he is a Liverpool target as well. Would have thought Everton would be a better proposition for him with their league position. Would prefer him to go to Liverpool because if he goes to the other 2 that CL becomes harder to get

Think his father either played for or supported Everton from memory. So if it was an emotional decision between them and Liverpool I think Everton would be the more likely. Spoke very fondly about them.

his father was a soldier in ww2 and a staunch everton fan. but he's said he would play for liverpool.
Id imagine if we are interested we could get him. Everton are shit and when Fell leaves they will go backwards again. Be interesting to see if we make a play for him.

Didn't they finish above you last season? Aren't they currently ahead of you this season?

Doesn't say much for Liverpool then

Current table

5 Everton 33 points
10 Liverpool 25 points

Last year

7 Everton 56 points
8 Liverpool 52 points

Edit: moomba beat me to it

Yep and yep. Season has a long way to go though. Everton just dont have the lure we do. Anyways, he could end up anywhere, im sure he has an emotional connection with Everton. But they dont win anything and have played CL football once I think? Liverpool would be a more attractive option, Arsenal though are front runners.

Could Arsenal consistently fit Wilshire, Cazorla, Holtby and Arteta in the same midfield or at least keep them happy with playing time. They already play Arteta out of position

We'll see I guess. The only area where Everton fall down against Liverpool right now is the wages they'd be prepared to offer. As far as results, manager, quality of the squad I think they're the better bet right now. I agree Arsenal would be front runners, but I think they'd want to offer CL.

No idea. Arsenal are a risky proposition for Holtby too. Havent won anything in 7 years, going on 8. Consistently sell there best players. Now struggling to finish top 4 and secure CL football.

Well all three clubs have pros and cons I guess.

Arsenal consistently sell there best players and havent won anything in nearly 8 years. They do have CL football but might not by the end of this season. Arsenal seem to be spinning there wheels or perhaps going backwards.

Everton are probably the best bet. Solid manager and a good squad who appear on the up. But they have no history to back them up with CL football. It's great to think they might play CL football but the reality is they have only ever finished top 4 once I think. Also you know Fellaini is going attract some big clubs and more than likely will leave. He is a huge reason as to why they are so good. Everton also havent won anything in like forever!!

Liverpool appear to be going backwards. 3 years without CL. Finishes in the league of 7th or 8th the last few years. All negatives. Positives I guess are young manager with a vision. Top players are re-signing unlike Arsenal which means the squad believes. We did win a trophy last year albeit the League Cup and despite our recent problems have a history of playing CL.

Arsenal and Liverpool could easily offer larger wages than Everton.

Having said all that, I have no idea if LFC are even interested.

Birmingham chairman has confirmed Liverpool's interest in taking Jack Butland. I'd imagine we'd look to buy him then loan him back to Birmingham or perhaps another EPL club.

The difference between Liverpool and Everton is that while we are in a trough at present on the back of instability and some poor decisions made in recent years, this is as good as it will get for Everton for the foreseeable future. Despite how much Moyes has squeezed out of his very limited resources they won't crack the top 4, they just don't have the financial capability. Liverpool on the other hand have significantly greater financial resources and despite current league positions remain a far more prestigious club than their neighbours.

Players want to win trophies and as much respect as I have for what they've done the last few seasons, that just isn't going to happen at Everton. 17 years without silverware of any kind says it all, so while they have bragging rights in the league at present, it won't last for long and if a player is choosing between the 2 he will recognize that. You don't join a club for 1 or 2 seasons, you join with the intention to stay for the long term and our long term prospects are without doubt much better than theirs.

depends how solid this outside investment info that has been floating around everton for a while is.

That was well over a year ago wasn't it? I don't think it will eventuate. In any case, it would want to be a pretty sizeable outside investment. As I said in another thread, even without the significant income that comes from CL football over the last 2-3 seasons we've remained in the top 10 clubs in the world in terms of revenue.

Jamie Carragher was born and raised as a fierce Everton supporter. You wouldn't pick it now!
