Was thinking about this with some mates today.. What would be your ultimate combination of a band, using anyone, dead or alive, from any era? Guidelines: 1 singer, 1 guitarist, 1 bassist, 1 drummer, 1 other specialist (ie. piano, horns, synth.. )

My shot..

Vocals: Mick Jagger
Guitar: Eric Clapton
Bass: Jack Bruce
Drums: Keith Moon
Piano: Jerry Lee Lewis

The hard thing is to get together a bunch of musicians that could blend. Can you imagine the mayhem if Keith Moon, Jimmy Hendrix and Les Claypool were all in the one band?

I will go for a classic rock/blues ensemble:

Drums - John Bonham
Bass - Geezer Butler
Rhythm guitar - Keith Richards
Lead guitar - Pete Townshend
Keyboards - John Lord
Vocals - Jim Morrison

The 'Rock Legends' Supergroup....

Vocals : John Lennon
Guitar : Jimi Hendrix
Bass : James Jamerson
Drums : John Bonham (but if he's already contracted to Tef's band, then I'll take Neil Peart as stand-in)
Piano : Van Dyke Parks

The 'We Have Serious Chops' Supergroup.....

Vocals : Greg Dulli
Guitar : Robert Quine
Bass : Les Claypool
Drums : Danny Carey
Violin : Andrew Bird

The 'We Also Have Serious Chops' Supergroup.....

Vocals : Bob Mould
Guitar : Doug Martsch
Bass : Mike Watt
Drums : Damon Che
Composer/programmer : Jim O'Rourke

The 'Limey Freak' Supergroup....

Vocals : Elvis Costello
Guitar : Kevin Shields
Bass : Jah Wobble
Drums : Budgie
Dancing And Occasional Maraccas : Bez

The 'Band I'd Personally Like To See' Supergroup.....

Vocals : Robert Pollard
Guitar : Johnny Marr
Bass : Mike Mills
Drums : Josh Freese
Percussion : Bernie Worrell

The 'Oi Oi Oi' Supergroup.....

Vocals : Paul Kelly (for the songwriting, rather than the voice....m'eh, we can get Rob Snarski to do backing vocals)
Guitar : Kim Salmon
Bass : John Archer
Drums : Rob Hirst
Violin : Warren Ellis

I have to wonder if this thread was started because of the announcement of the "supergroup" 'Tinted Windows' which features "legends" such as James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Taylor Hanson, James Schlesinger (Fountains Of Wayne) and Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick).

Yep.

I tried not to double up, but I did sneak a couple of extra muso's in:

Vocals (and slide guitar): Bonnie Raitt

Piano: Dr John

Hammond B-3: Billy Preston

Lead guitar: Stevie Ray Vaughan

Drums: Ginger Baker

Bass: Pino Palladino

Saxophone: Dave Sanborn

It would be blues with a feelin'

I can't sing to save myself (think a cane toad with a sore throat) but would love to be in anyone of those bands as a back up singer with Tina Turner, Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin....:)
