Ok we have had the poll regarding which club out of the Blues and Tigers has the brighter future. I thought I would add to it and include the other 3 traditional Powerhouse Victorian clubs: Hawthorn, Essendon, Collingwood.

Please try and keep the debate to facts and not petty name calling. We all know that each of the fans for each club have a strong dislike for the others but I want this to be a somewhat serious discussion.

Thats tough. I'd say probably the Tigers but a lot can change from year to year so I wouldn't rule out any of these sides being able to challenge for a flag in the next 3 or 4 years.

Carlton

Essendon/Hawthorn

Richmond/Collingwood

Blues have best youngsters and will be poised when WC complete their three-peat. We are a year or two behind. Will then come on strong.

Hawks have some handy young talls who take longer to develop. Worried about their lack of quality onballers however. Hodge and Mitchell aside, they will need to find some in coming drafts.

Other two will contuinue to struggle

Richmond and the Hawks are a fair way ahead the rest in building a team capable of winning a flag, Blues may have a few decent young players but it drops off really bad and will need a lot more time to even get close

Agree, especially with the change to the priority pick rule.

Not only will it affect clubs ability to rebuild using the draft, but more clubs are reluctant to trade higher picks for senior players.

Carlton have the midfield feel of a Brisbane or West Coast coming on and will be major contenders for 6-7 years in a row starting 09. Clearly on youth, potential and talent, we seem the Vic team "most likely":thumbsu:

1st Essendon
2nd Hawthorn
3rd Collingwood
4th Richmond
16th Carlton

EDIT: Typo, 16th should read 5th. Sorry guys just get so used to using that number and Carlton in the same sentence. My bad.

...which clearly showed the Blues have a brighter future. We also has a poll which clearly rated Murphy ahead of Deledio. What's the point? When will the message finally get through? Why are Tiges fans so insecure? Hilarious. :)

Disagree, I'd think that Hawthorn (with their tall KPP stocks entering their 1-3rd seasons) and their untried outside midfielders (Ellis, Muston, Tuck etc.) as well as Richmond (quick tall utility type players and midfielders) would be in a better position to challenge before Carlton are ready.

The big problem with the change to the priority pick rule is that it will now take much longer to build a quality list capable of winning the premiership via the draft.

Interesting thoughts. Can't agree on Richmond. Sure they have some tallish utility players, but they don't look much chop.
Your comments on the priority pick rule are reasonable, and teams like Collingwood and Essendon will suffer accordingly, but fortunatley for us we have a list that is very deep in talent. Injuries and slower development have held a few back, but starting this year it really is an embarrassment of riches! Exciting times ahead :)

Actually it shows that there are more Carlton fans. Most neutral fans reckon Richmond is better now and in the future, except for monkeyboy who i suspect is your alias. One of many parrot alias':) :thumbsu:

People are just going by Essendon's 2006 season.

Don't forget, Lloyd makes SO much difference to the Bombers side. Not only does he boost his team with his talent but just his presence on the field will lift Essendon.

They probably wont, but don't be surprised if they sneak into the 8 in 2007.

Collingwood. I'm not being biased, although you'd think so.
I'm confident we can pose a threat once the kids fill out, say 2009-2010, and we have 'The Irish Nathan Buckley'.

To say blues have the best youngsters in the league is crap...people think just because Carlton have 2 top picks they automatically have the brightest future.

As for hawthorn not having a lack of good onballers thats just a joke...hodge, mitchell, lewis, vanders(although im not much a a fan) sewell and like all teams youngsters to come through

I didnt know Hawthorn where in the big 5, i wouldve thought Geelong instead of Hawthorn

Richmond, followed by Hawthorn.

Currently Richmond are building a more well rounded team, and seem to have more positions filled then the Hawks, but the main reason is that their coach is far superior.

Hawthorn are building a good team but their coach is teaching the young kids a brand of uncontested possession football, which isn't good in the long run. If Hawthorn get a new coach they are on par with the Tigers, if they also uncover a good key defender, they are ahead.

It's too early to comment on Carlton as they have proven nothing so far, except they can come 16th.

Collingwood don't have the list to do it currently, and they aren't a long term successful club anymore, so rebuilding to premiership success before the Hawks, Tigers and even Carlton seems unlikely, however they should always be near the top.

Essesndon are still a good chance, their team is better then everybody thinks it is, but it's still not good enough to win a premiership, if none of the current list of the Tigers, Hawks, Pies and Blues win a premiership in the next 4-7 years, Essendon will be next as they know how to build a club to win premierships.

Sorry, Melbourne are the 5th, well technically they're the first.

The "big 4" groups name came about as the "big 4" threats to Melbourne's superiority over the rest of the league.

Get your facts right first, geez
