The war against renewable energy

I just saw this article saying the Algal bloom is affecting Adelaide beaches. Here is a dead dolphin taken at Grange beach.

We are starting to see the real cost for the war on renewable energy, for our tardiness in responding to global warming. This has been predicted for over forty years. The response crippled by lies & disinformation, spread by the likes of Murdoch, coal lobby and f*cking idiots like Gina.

This is your future boys and girls, dead seas, flooded cities and a collapsing biosphere. I'm old and won't see the worst of it but it makes me sad for my kids and future generations. Make sure you remember the folks who lied to you and told you global warming wasn't real.

For folks who want to find out more about the bloom, I have found the most information here at the great Southern Reef foundation:
It's so depressing. There is a public concern form you can sign and send to the pollies.

VIC Labor SEC?

You're not using the latest incarnation of the SEC as some sort of evidence of ALP's success in providing a stable and reliable grid?

Kirner's ALP government started the privatisation by selling 51% of Loy Yang B. Kennet came in and finished the job. Since then, 1999, ALP has been in charge for 21 out of 25 years.

Gee you love making unsubstantiated claims.
Renewables are stabilising the grid= fact.
The New SEC is driving state owned renewables= fact. Only 5% at the moment but will grow.
Are you going to back up your claim that Norway f**ed up its energy grid? Or just deflect to the next unsubstantiated claim with more rubbish?

I said Norway ****ed up their electricity, not their grid. I said Germany ****ed up their grid - Dunkelflaute where expected renewables aren't enough when demand is high.

I can keep going if you want.

Not quite right.

Hydro and batteries are stabilising the grid. Solar and wind aren't as they aren't synchronous. There is a scramble now to build synchronous condensers and grid forming batteries to provide stability before coal generators go offline. We'll need to keep coal going until mid 2030 just to provide the inertia to protect the stability of the grid.

More dribble trying to sound like there isn’t a plan in place.
Storage has always been the key to renewables.
Hydro, Solar, wind and batteries = renewables and backed up with gas.

Drivel. Batteries weren't a part of the picture when RTS commenced. The PW1 didn't roll off the production line until 2015. As for gas, if the "plan" was for gas backup, why is the energy minister now, in 2025, arguing that gas projects can't export everything. The government has no plan.

In addition, AEMO is still considering whether it needs to create a market for inertia. They don't have a clue what they're doing either.

The plan has changed significantly since 2009… it’s allowed to change.
The solution has never been clearer and the technology is advancing at record pace, thanks mainly to china.

So since ESC Vic released their 4 one hundredths of a cent FIT, energy retailers in Vic are offering half a cent and 1 cent FITs

QLD and NSW both have higher FITs - both have more solar going into the grid too.

Another example of the Victorian government working to help make energy companies more profits.

How does ESC VIC say the FIT min is 0.04 of a cent whereas IPART in NSW sets it between 4.8 - 7.4 cents

VIC was the only state to mandate a FIT. VIC has much lower usage rates than NSW.

Solar is about self consumption and or storing your own.
If you have excess storage you can use export.

Here is my feed in tariff with Amber…

Victoria has more wind generation than NSW and QLD, and the combined wind plus solar generation exceeds that of NSW and QLD. Victoria has lower wholesale electricity prices than NSW and QLD. Victoria has negative wholesale prices more frequently than NSW and QLD. It is more likely that people will be exporting solar power when wholesale prices are negative in Victoria than NSW and QLD.

FIT is a function of wholesale prices. Victoria having a lower FIT then NSW and QLD is a good thing, because Victorian electricity is cheaper.

Idiots "Like " Gina, maybe , but its a global issue, and Gina is small fry when looking for individuals to blame. Ultimately it doesn't come down to individuals.

That's not how it works. If Australia gets to net zero, climate change ends.
If Australia gets to net zero, our electricity price will continue to plunge and others will follow suit and hire Australian academics and technicians to show them how to do it.

If we don't, our electricity prices will continue to increase and eventually we'll have to hire overseas companies and academics and technicians to show us how to do it.

Yes, it's not just Gina, it's every moron who denies global warming and inhibits the move to renewable energy. Those with power are the most responsible, such as the fossil fuel industry, the LNP and the media.

This makes depressing reading, an article by an oceanographer at Flinders Uni whose computer model predicts advance of the bloom into Spencer gulf over next summer, despite waning a bit over winter. I hope he is wrong. Graph above shows numbers of algae in cells per ml, article below.

This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but with a wimper

If we get there and if electricity prices plunge (and if our grid is stable), then yes, others will follow suit. If we don't, and if, say, Sweden get there, does that mean we need to reconsider nuclear energy and biomass fuels alongside renewables?

No.
Looks like South Australia will make it before anyone.
Gas currently on for no reason!!!

Algal Bloom has been happening forever. This is nothing new.
