Yes season 2 is my favourite. There was a desperate, slowly decay of hopelessness that it portrayed so well
But they're all good. I've heard the show described as being a about "how a city can be broken" in all sorts of ways.
Season 4 was the surprise season. Kids? Come on how can that end up being any good.....yeah just watch it
Season five I felt had something to say, (David Simon being an ex journo and all) quite important, but it may have been rushed and the main hook in the storyline was just a bit too much really.
And yes the tech around the first half of the noughties gives the show a very particular place in time.
